3. Remembering the past

THE PERSONNEL IN HIS PENTHOUSE MIGHT HAD CHANGED, but Oscar still had access to it. He went inside and made sure the concierge knew not to let anyone in, not even his family, and definitely not Alpha Byron. He gave them specific pictures of each one of them. He had to stay hidden. It was the only way he could get to safety. He knew getting back to his place was a risk, but then he had no other choice. He was running out of cash and had to get fresh clothes. His hygiene had been failing badly too, and he already stank like a stray dog. Oscar quickly took a shower and changed into a new set of clothes. He grabbed a fresh pair of sneakers and then bolted out of his room. He was fatigued, but he powered through. He had no time for sleep since he still needed to talk with Elliot. The sooner he gets it done, the better. He went back to the kitchen and made himself breakfast. As always, his butler was keen, and was able to prepare his place even before he arrived. He did not give any specifics to his employee at all, but the gentleman still fully stocked his kitchen with everything he liked. He packed himself Cheetos, Ruffles, and a loaf of bread. He brewed some coffee as well and put it in a cup. Carrying his food, he went out of his penthouse as fast as he could. His plan was to eat on the road to beat the morning traffic. There were still a lot of people who were accustomed to taking subways because they couldn’t afford to travel via helicopters and choppers. Driving around New York has always been a luxury that most people could not afford. Other than the high rental rates for parking space, there was also the lack of gasoline stations in the business centres. Oscar prepared two snacks as he might stay outside for a longer period of time. He did not want to get into any of the restaurants as someone might recognize him and post his face on social media. It would be his doom. He left a note on the counter to thank his staff and went down to the parking lot. There was no way that he would use the same car he stole yesterday. He turned on the lights and looked at his collection of cars. He had a couple of vintage cars from Rolls Royce and Audi, but he was reeling for something that would not be an eyesore. In the end, he chose the blue Lamborghini he got for his last birthday. Tony had been kissing his ass in the last few years after his wedding. It was because he started getting more of their family business than his brother had. Nonetheless, that was for another day to think about. After getting inside the car, Oscar fixed the seat and the angle of the mirrors to what he needed. Satisfied, he started the engine and watched the fuel gauge and other icons on the dashboard light up. A few seconds later, all the lights before him turned off one by one, signifying that everything was in order and that the only thing left now was for him to drive. The engine roared to life. The sound of metals grinding against each other made him remember the last time Jason rode with him and how Jason almost puked inside the car. He chuckled at the memory. He missed him a lot these days, not as a lover, but as someone he valued. Their short time together had been one of the most exciting parts of his life. He had already accepted that Jason would never be his, just like Alpha Byron was not his true mate. He got tired of looking for love. All he cared about now was reconnecting with friends and finding out what he wanted in life. Some call it a quarter-life crisis, but for him, it was more of an existential crisis. He felt like he didn't belong anywhere. Thus, his quest for the place where he belongs begins. His quest heavily involved finding his friends and asking them for help. He knew very well that he could not escape Alpha Byron for long. He needed to find a secure place to stay. Jason's pack was rumoured to be well-hidden and had tight security. It would be his first destination if Elliot knew how to get there. "Please, Elliot, be at the stadium today. I badly need your help," he whispered to himself, and drove out of the parking lot. He knew the city very well and sped through all the stops. He was lucky that most of the stop signs turned green just when he was approaching. It was weird, but it felt like someone was actually guiding him. He was still thinking of Elliot when he parked his car next to the stadium. The place was still the same as he remembered, with the glass panels around it and concrete walls at the personnel entrance. He watched every person passing by closely and hoped Elliot would show up. Unlike the fighters, coaches had to report daily to the UOFC office for their client’s progress reports. It was the only way for the committee to assess who was fighting and in which cluster they would be. Ding! [Where are you, love? Please come back home. I missed you. - Byron] A message from his ex-lover appeared on Oscar’s glass phone. He quickly deleted it and went on with his business. He ate his food and sipped his coffee without taking his eyes away from the personnel door. Getting inside the stadium wasn’t an option for him at the moment. Tony had control over everything in the committee, and Byron, given his sly personality, most probably had spies and surveillance cameras installed all over the building. His best course was to approach Elliot from outside, away from the prying eyes of the UOFC. As the sun went down, the personnel went out of the building one by one. It was odd, though, that he still hadn’t seen any sign of Elliot. He obviously failed his mission that day, and he had to think of another way to get on with his plan. "It looks like I have to go back again tomorrow. Oh, Elliot. Where are you, dude? I badly need you." He looked at his watch. It was about to get dark. He needed to get back to his pad before Byron tracked him down. Ding! [You know, you could never hide from me. You are in New York. Your phone just gave me the location. Wait for me there. I am coming soon. Love, Byron] He felt disgusted after reading the message. How dare the devil call him that endearment when he showed him no affection while he was still in his pack? Byron would always hug and kiss him in public. However, their life indoors was a completely different story. The Alpha would always hurt him whenever he did not get his bidding. Oscar cringed at the thought of Byron catching him before he could get out of New York. Quickly, he sent a chat to both Cooper and Elliot, informing them about his arrival. Oscar sent an invitation to them and told them to meet him at the old bar they used to hang out at. He could only wish for them to come and meet him tonight. Turning off his phone, he started driving to the club with just a few things in mind. And that was... to drown himself in alcohol and men.
