4. Party of Two

1184 Words
HEAVY MUSIC WAS BLARING FROM THE SPEAKERS. The dance floor was on fire as stomps continued to pound the ground. The air was buzzing and the atmosphere was so good that Oscar couldn’t help but nod his head with the beat. He had been sipping whiskey for hours, and the room he was in was cosy and spacious for what people call a "small underground club." It amazed him that the place was still operating after all the years that had passed. "Can you send me another bottle of whiskey, please?" he ordered through the small microphone on the table. The establishment boasted excellent service, comparable to having a butler. The best part was that it had lived up to his expectations so far. Ding! A small box opened from the side of his table, and there it was, his fresh bottle of whiskey. Oscar took it and poured himself another glass. After a sip, he walked to the glass window and enjoyed how it overlooked the dance floor below. A couple of teenagers were grinding their bodies non-stop to the music. Scanning the crowd, he also noticed a couple of yuppies just chilling with the ambiance. "Now, that is what I call a party," he said, before glancing at the entrance door for any sign of Elliot or Cooper. He couldn’t see any familiar faces in the club, and the last group who entered the door were mostly thugs. He shrugged and went back to the couch. Then, he checked his phone for any messages. [I am missing you, love. Look down, I want to dance with you. - Byron.] Goosebumps immediately covered Oscar’s whole arm upon reading the last text on his phone. Byron found him. "s**t!" He ran to the glass window to find an emergency exit. As he passed by the bar area, he saw Byron waving his hand at him. His heart went into a ruckus. "Damn it! How did he get here so soon?" Then, grabbing some cash from his pockets, he paid his bill by dumping his money on the nearest table. It was more than what he should be paying for the drinks. However, he was anticipating leaving some damage at that place anyway as a result of his escape. He was fast when he grabbed his jacket from the couch and went straight for the door. He reached the more secluded part of the hallway, opposite to the stairs that lead to the dance floor. "Hey! You are not allowed here," a kitchen guy exclaimed upon seeing him. Without a word, Oscar shoved the guy aside as he had no time to argue. His life was on the line, and it was not something the kitchen guy should know. "Out of my way!" He jumped off the steel countertop and sprinted towards the other door. He didn’t know where he was heading, but he went for it anyway. A dark alleyway greeted him as soon as he stormed out of the door. A few stray cats hissed at the noise that blasted when he opened the door, and he stumbled on a pothole while sneaking out of that alley. "Byron better stay inside, " Oscar murmured as he dashed to the other side of the road. He left his car there, and he couldn’t be more glad that he opted to park nearby. "Oscar!" Byron called him from the exit door, but he was too eager to run away from him. Instead of stopping, he turned his head to the man, let his tongue out, and then shouted back, "Bye, Byron. See you never!" It only took a second before Oscar reached the side of his car. He quickly placed his palm on the fingerprint sensor while blaming himself for not bringing a spare key. "Come on, open up!" As the door clicked open, Byron caught up with him and appeared behind him. "Not so fast, Oscar." "Stay away from me, asshole!" He kicked him, aiming for his balls, but missed. "Where do you think you are going, my love?" Byron pulled him closer, caging Oscar in his muscular arms and showing how stronger he was than him. Oscar's strength was no match for Byron’s. He was like a piece of paper thrown into a tornado. "Let go of me. I will scream, if you won't. I know those bouncers there." Oscar pointed at the two men guarding the entrance door. "Go ahead. I’ll tell them that I am your husband then." Byron just shrugged his warning off and then sensually sniffed his neck. "Isn't that right, my love?" Disgusted, Oscar tried to wiggle his way out of Byron’s hold. It was a good thing that he kept a taser gun in his jacket. In one swift motion, he took it out and pressed it against Byron's neck. The huge man trembled at the sudden electric shock. Oscar took advantage of that, slipped from his hold, and then stepped inside his car. He pressed the start button, and the engine roared. Without looking back, he closed the door, locked it, and kicked the gas pedal as hard as he could. His car blasted off the sidewalk and into the highway. "Whew! That was a close one," he said, before wiping the beads of sweat that formed on his forehead. He was already calmer when he focused on the road ahead of him. It was still dark, and he was having a hard time paying attention to the traffic lights after his encounter with Byron. He cruised the New York streets at the maximum speed allowable. He knew the place like the back of his head, as this had been his playground years ago. No one could take him down in this place. The car slowed down as he approached the entrance to his pad. The buzz of the whiskey had died off, and he was now about to park. "Good evening, sir. There is someone in the lobby who wants to see you," the speaker informed him as soon as he turned the engine off. Glancing at the security camera pointed to the lobby, his eyes widened upon seeing who had finally come for him. His visitor looked rugged and much older than he last remembered. It was easy to tell that the past few years had not been kind to the man at all. "Let him in. Only him. No one else is allowed to go up without my permission. Understood?" He used the communicator to let the receptionist know his decision. He watched as his visitor stepped inside the elevator, and it was then that he noticed that the man had come alone. Oscar then pressed the button for the elevator to go up. It was, after all, a private elevator that was connected straight to his pad. Excited to greet his friend, Oscar used the elevator from the parking lot. Being a service elevator, the one he was in stopped on all floors it was passing through. That made Oscar frown and tap the metal rail impatiently. Goodness! He was becoming agitated.
