How I Became The Runt

985 Words
A few weeks after I turned 5, Luna Victoria summoned me to her office. She said that one of the Omega’s had fallen sick because of which she needed me to help the kitchen staff and all I had to do was place the table for the meals that day. Feeling indebted to her and the Alpha I immediately agreed and went to the kitchen.  Logan and Asher found me laying the table 15 minutes later and asked me what I was doing. I told them what the Luna had said and Asher got angry that she asked me to do this. I tried calming him down and 15 minutes later after a lot of pleading he let it go. He knew that I felt indebted to his parents and wanted to do everything I could to pay back for the way they had treated Logan and I all these years.  Logan who understood how I felt said he wanted to help me. I told him to go ask the Luna for his own duties and not interfere in mine. However, in his case all he was told was not to worry and that he could help by training to become the best warrior in the pack. From that day even post the omega returning, laying the table for meals became a part of my daily routine. Like I said it was subtle and slow. A few months later the Luna asked me to go get her some tea. I went to the kitchen but no one was there. Not wanting to make her wait, 5 year old me got on top of a stool and made tea for her myself. When I brought it to her she said it tasted different and asked me who made it. I got shy and scared thinking I had done something wrong and stuttering through the sentence I said, “I-III made-ee it Lu-una” “Really? You made it?” She seemed shocked for a second but quickly composed herself and with a smile said, “well I must say it is one of the best cups of tea I have ever had.” I smiled widely upon hearing that and was so excited that she had liked it that much. I went and was practically shouting in happiness about it to anyone who listened. Later during the day the Luna was singing my praises to The Alpha while I was in the room, he was quite surprised that I made the tea myself as well, but just laughed it off seeing how happy I was about impressing the Luna.  Of course, now I know that I shouldn’t have been happy, I should have been cautious; in fact I wish I never made that cup of tea myself. You see I just gave Luna Victoria the perfect plan to make me into the runt. She had been trying to find a way, and me making that cup of tea put into motion the path which made my life become the way it is today. Sure she would probably have figured out another way, but maybe just maybe it would have taken her longer and I could have figured things out sooner.  Soon enough, along with laying the table, making tea for Luna Victoria was added to my daily routine. She always made sure I only made it for her and no one else, not even the Alpha who kept trying to taste it. I thought it was just because she didn’t want me to actually do that much work. In reality it was because my tea wasn’t really that good and she planned on training me subtly before letting me make it for anyone else.  Over the course of the next few months she would say, “darling I think you forgot to put this ingredient in” or “darling, did you forget to add that?” While I had made exactly like the first time. Of course feeling bad the next time I would always add what she had said was lacking. She always made sure to tell me these things when it was only her and me, and over time her tone became a bit harsher and terms of endearment weren’t used anymore. I should have realised then, but again I was only 5!! After the tea had become perfect she finally let the Alpha try it. Of course no one thought it suspicious that she did that. The alpha always looked at the cup longingly and everyone just thought that the Luna let him do it out of love for her mate. The Alpha took a sip and practically moaned, “I can see why don’t let anyone try it, poor girl would just never be let out of the kitchen with everyone wanting a taste of this delicious a cup.”  Word soon got out of how much the Alpha loved my tea, and as expected everyone suddenly wanted to try it. Logan and Asher of course did not like the idea of me sitting in the kitchen and doing work for everyone and put their foot down. No one saw the look of anger in the Luna when that happened. People were disappointed to say the least, so the Luna came up with a compromise ‘wanting to keep her people happy.’ She said, “Okay how about this everyone, the next time we have a celebration Amelia will make the tea, lets not overwork this poor little girl.” People were satisfied with this and went their own merry way. The Luna smirked but quickly changed it to a smile, “Darling I hope that is okay?” Naturally she still used endearments when around other people, not wanting to betray her true intentions and let the inner devil out. I of course just nodded and smiled, happy to be able to help in any way I could.  Soon enough I was always the one making tea for any big gatherings. Like I said it was slow and subtle.
