Confabulation

1113 Words
She had been a wandering soul for thousands of years, crossing from one realm to another in order to search for that one person she died with so they could live together in the afterlife.  Her love for this person would lead her to a journey that was able to transcend space and time. She wouldn't give up. She used to be the mightiest of the Valkyries, Odin's shield maiden and Chooser of the Slain. Despite being stripped of her power and abilities, she had within her the character of a strong-willed woman whenever she found herself in a strange world, in an unlikely place and time. She was hopeful that her search was somewhere near its end. That much was true when she saw Sigurd standing beside the body of the sleeping woman. She found him, but neither could she touch nor hug him. She was just a soul, to Midgardians, a ghost. As she was staring at the lifeless woman, she recalled those days she was punished to sleep forever until someone brave enough could free her. But she wouldn't be freeing her, instead, she's going to possess her body, to use it to achieve her own purpose. After all, her soul's gone. Whether she actually died or her soul went into an astral projection, she couldn't care less. She would claim her body as soon as possible. And so she began the transmigration process. It didn't take long when she felt she was given a new physical life. This body is hers now. She is the new owner and she would use it to get closer to her man. She moved a finger, then slowly she opened her eyes. She screamed in the blinding lights. "Paging Dr. Wesley...Dr. Wesley..... to the ICU please" Everyone in the hospital went into a frenzy after the nurse reported that Mrs. Stevens moved a finger and her vital signs started to register to normal rates as seen in the monitor, followed by her scream after she opened her eyes. She was so strong the hospital staff had her tethered to her bed while being examined by the doctor. To them, it was kind of witnessing a miracle unfolding in front of their eyes. They couldn't believe that for a month of staying in the hospital ICU, she would suddenly wake up and show progress and recovery at such a fast rate. Her display of vitality and strength was very unlikely for patients recovering from a coma. It was as if she never got sick at all. "Call Mr. Anderson, Mr. Steven's assistant, and tell him the news" Dr. Wesley ordered. Meanwhile, in New York, he was having a meeting with the investors of his Manhattan skyscraper project when Mr. Anderson called him. "Yes, James? Make sure that's something newsworthy. "Ms. Bree, she woke up today" "James, I'm in the middle of a very important meeting with the investors, much more important than that woman"  "Apologies Sir, I only did it as instructed. Dr. Wesley informed me she was saying some strange things and mentioning strange people's names and she's so strong she had to be tied up." "Ok, just tell them to do what is necessary, and inform Thomas to bring the divorce papers to the hospital tomorrow. "Noted Sir." Siege went directly to the hospital from the airport. His lawyer and assistant would meet him there. This time he had to make sure Bree would sign the papers, no more escaping, no more alibis or excuses. He had to get rid of her. The past thirty days had been too much of a burden. If he were to choose, he would prefer her brain dead than seeing her alive again. It would just make him loathe her even more. When the doctor saw the approaching Mr. Stevens, he led him to his office, "Mr. Stevens, I would like to discuss the status of Mrs. Stevens. She suffered a severe head injury and that may have caused damage to her hippocampus which is vital in storing memories or it could be any part of her frontal lobe that controls her emotions, memory, and behavior. As a result, she seemed not to remember a thing about herself but she would mention strange things and places she sounded so familiar with. But I'm afraid these stories are just made up or fabricated because she would tell things of the ancient times, gods, goddesses, and warriors you would find in books believing she's a part of them. She's also being resistant to treatment declaring that she doesn't need it anymore. I'm sorry she had to be given a sedative, but she'd wake up in a few minutes," "What's the diagnosis, doc?" "She could be having confabulation as a result of her amnesia. That means she may be creating false memory without the intention to deceive. She may have not recognized that the information she relayed to others is only fabricated. Anyway, the tests were done so we would just have to look for signs of brain damage. We will also do a comprehensive evaluation to identify other possible causes of her memory loss or altered memory and changes in behavior." She may also have to undergo psychiatric tests or counseling to reduce her tendency to confabulate." "Mr. Stevens, I am telling you that this is a long process of treatment to recovery. She would really need to cooperate and of course, a strong support system from family members that would provide her evidence or information to correct her erroneous memory, gradually. "Okay thank you, doctor. I will keep that in mind." He couldn't believe what he was hearing from the doctor. At the back of his mind, he was actually thinking that Brianna must be doing that on purpose. She would pretend to have amnesia or make stories like she was one delusional woman, and that way, she could not be able to sign the divorce agreement. What a cunning woman. At that thought, he clenched his fist. "Would you like to see her? She should be awake by now," the doctor inquired. But before Seige could reach the door, it swung open and Bree was coming over to him, shouting, "Sigurd... "I know it's you, Sigurd. Finally, I found you. We will never be apart again."  She was ecstatic, so full of life as if she had been reinvigorated after such long sleep. Her eyes moistened at the sight of him, ready to shed tears of joy anytime. He didn't reciprocate, instead, his face turned gloomy, his cold gaze at her as he began to speak,  "Who are you?" "It's me, Brynhildr and you are Sigurd"
