The McLarin Children

--- POV Tobias --- {Present} I heard the rustle of bags, and I shot up from my seat, shaking myself out of my memories. A little too quickly for a human, I may add, but I grabbed my things and headed for the door not thinking much of it. I wasn’t doing well with the whole ‘blending in with humans’ thing. Sometimes I forget I’m around them completely. The hardest part was trying to keep my temper down. When we left our home eight years ago, it was much harder, but I learned to ignore them and fell silent. It made it easier to ignore the womanly advances and the men trying to exert their dominance. Stupid waste of time if you would ask me. None of them stood a chance against me or my brother. I huffed and took a deep breath. “Calm yourself Tobias. No need to cause a scene.” I heard my oh so familiar Lycan, Adir, chuckling in my mind. I’m sure he enjoys watching me suffer sometimes. I glanced around the room briefly before walking out the door. No one saw me, good. “Tobias.” I winced and turned to reveal the curly strawberry blond-haired bimbo who seems to think ‘no’ is not a valid response. “Yes, Naomi?” I asked coldly and the friends – or cackling children – behind her started giggling while she bit her lip. A blush ran across her cheeks, and it made me want to vomit. It's not my fault I have an impeccable memory. She was in one of my classes our freshman year and now she thinks I'm addicted to her because I happened to remember her name in passing. “So, some of the seniors in the business school want to get together for a party later. You can come with me, of course.” She started with that presumptuous attitude of hers again. Like I would have any interest in her for any reason. I lifted my lip about to rip her a new one when my brother’s familiar scent engulfed me, and his arm fell on my shoulder. Perfect timing brother. “Sorry ladies, but my brother and I need to head home this weekend for some family matters.” Seth hummed flirtatiously. Dude would swoon over water if that was possible. I’m still not sure where he got his personality from because it wasn’t from any of our relatives, but then I keep forgetting our biological grandfather. He would be a great reason how my twin brother turned out this way. At least…to the public eye. Unlike me, Seth decided to go the opposite route and be everyone’s best friend. We were both popular throughout high school and now in college together, but he was always the one that made friends easily while I stood back as the stoic older twin. The dynamic worked when we were children, and it still works for us now. I’m not complaining. “Omg! Seth and Tobias McLarin together?!” I closed my eyes as the shrilling screams echoed from the girls in front of us and the flashes from their stupid phones started to blind my overly sensitive eyes. “Ladies, Ladies. Calm down lovelies. We aren’t going anywhere, yet, but we really do have to head home for now. Stay beautiful.” Seth called, winking at them and pulling me backwards. Even with my eyes closed, I knew we were being followed and I could keep pace with him. Regrettably, I finally opened my eyes to the hoard growing behind us. Ugh…. My brother can be a ham sometimes and it tends to create this reaction. “Sorry, bro. Did not think that one through.” Barin whimpered toward Adir and all I heard from my Lycan was a strong growl acknowledging both of our distaste for this situation. Once we made it into the car, Seth fell back in his seat and his playboy demeanor turned as frosty as mine. He might have that flamboyant personality in front of others, but that wouldn’t be his real personality. I mean not completely. He's still the more...relaxed twin. When you become the heirs of a kingdom, you tend to learn to show many faces. I, however, don’t have the energy to do that. We might not be as bad as the Gods of War, but we have definitely lived up to our nicknames, The Ice Kings, without hesitation. “So, are we really going home?” I asked, turning to Seth for some sort of explanation. “Yes, Mom and Dad called me directly. You were in class so I told them I would find you and we could head out together.” Seth responded. I nodded and leaned back on the leather chair while our chauffeur drove toward the private airport. “I guess it’s serious then. We haven’t been back in around six years. It will be nice to see Tyler and Sapphire again.” I grinned, remembering our little sister. She’s almost eight years younger than us and makes a point to call both of us every night. Even now, and she’s already fourteen. It’s nice though. It made it easier to stay away from home for so long. However, dad was adamant that we learned about the business outside the realm as well as the royal etiquette on the inside. Best solution? Ship us to boarding school, then straight to Uni. When we were around her age, we decided to follow our dad’s wishes and headed for London. We started out as freshmen in high school and now we are seniors in college. Our parents’ realm is in the states, so it is challenging to see them every year. We did our best to do this the first few years, but once we decided to attend university here as well, we decided it was best to just stick to the books. “For sure! I hope Tyler has grown up a bit. How old is he now? Eighteen?” Seth smirked and I nodded. Tyler decided not to follow us when he turned fourteen and focused on becoming our Gamma instead. The human business side of our family wasn’t really his cup of tea. He’s been training under Spencer and from what I’ve heard from dad, every now and again, he’s doing a great job. Now I know what you are thinking. Then who is our Beta? We don’t technically have one, but Seth volunteered to step down. My mother thought it would be best for us to continue her birth pack’s customs, but Barin immediately submitted to Adir when he resurfaced on our twelfth birthday. At that point, Seth just decided that it was better to become the Beta and decrease the stress on him. It’s not like he was wrong though. “Yes, he is. I guess dad will be stepping down with all three of his sons taking over. I’m sure he’s happy about that.” Seth hummed in agreement and looked out his window, while I looked out mine. Once we made it to the airport, the pilot was outside waiting for us at the stairs. “Hello Prince Tobias and Prince Seth.” We both nodded to him and rushed up the stairs. Once we made it into the cabin, I was bombarded with a small sized person that smelled like a hint of daisies and chamomile, but mom’s scent still overpowered hers with Oak and Pine. “Saph?” She giggled and buried her face into my chest. I grinned brightly and wrapped my arms around her. Since her scent is starting to appear, it looks like our little sister is about to find her Lycan or Wolf. None of us know who she will take after yet. Tyler does not have a Lycan, but he is one of the biggest wolves we’ve ever seen. It makes up for it. “Hey, big brother!” She called and I could feel her tears on my grey t-shirt. “Hey! What about me, Little Gem?” Seth asked, pouting a bit. She laughed and pulled away from me, falling into Seth’s arms. She squealed when he picked her up and sat her bum on his arm. “Sorry, big brother.” She said in a pouty tone. We both laughed and walked through to the main seating area. I’m glad this plane was custom built for our height. It made it much easier to maneuver around our muscular 7’6 frames. I don’t think mom thought we would surpass her and dad, but that happened around eighteen. I’m sure even dad will be shocked when he sees us again. “How you been, Little Gem?” Seth asked, plopping on the couch. She plopped on his lap, and I took the cushion next to them. Sapphire dropped her small feet on one of my thighs, and I smirked at her little tiger slippers. She may be fourteen, but she was very much our little sister. Thank the Moon Goddess. Over the years, we have seen so many girls grow up faster than puberty can hit them. We were so stressed she was going to be one of them. Thankfully, all that stress was for not. “Well, I got all A’s this term and I’m going to be on a one-way track for valedictorian. I’m excited!” She smiled happily. “Just like you and Toby!” She nodded with conviction, and we grinned at her. Only her and mom can call me that. Period. “Of course! You got this!” Seth called, and then we heard someone clear their throat. “Yeah, I know she’s adorable and all, but you’re not going to say hi to your brother?” Tyler?! We both shot our heads up to see this little kid now very much progressing into a man. He was around 6’7 – 6’8 and he had solid lean muscles. He didn’t look anything like the little shrimp we left behind when we moved to London. “Dude!” Seth grinned happily, plopped Saph on my lap, and got up to clasp hands with Ty, commencing in a proper bro hug. Saph climbed off my lap and waved her hands his way. I just realized she was just as tiny as mom. I think it is rather hilarious that mom’s height only fell on her daughter and no one else, but from the rumors, Saph got her strength too. No resentment from her there. It's all about give and take. I stood up and did the same action as Seth when Ty and Seth pulled apart. “How’s it going little brother?” He looked up at the both of us and huffed. “Well, it was going fine until I realized I’ll be your ‘little’ brother until death. How are you two this big?!” We both chuckled. “Easy, meat.” We both agreed and responded simultaneously, confirming our carnivorous diet, Tyler smirked and waved us to a table while Saph clipped her seatbelt on and snuggled up to her blanket and tablet. I guess she was watching a movie. “I’m sure that is not the only thing.” “I’m sure you’re just pinning for suggestions to use for yourself. Just deal with it. If you’re going to grow more, then it’ll happen.” I snarked back and he rolled his eyes before plopping in one of the chairs, clipping on his belt. “Easy for you to say.” Tyler muttered under his breath. Seth and I sat across from him and clipped our belts in place. “However, in all seriousness. What’s going on?” Seth asked. Tyler shrugged. “Family meeting. I think the uncles, Grams and Gramps are going to be there too.” We both looked at each other and froze. The last time this happened, it wasn’t good. Mom and dad immediately started working with the witches, dragons, wolves, and vampires to think of plans and tactics against attacks. However, nothing happened, and we all laid in wait. In fear. After a few years, it was deemed safe to travel again and we were just asked to be cognizant. Even when we moved out, we made sure to train twice a day and make sure we stayed on our toes. I’m rather curious to see what the conversation is going to be about this time. I’m very curious to see if they will actually tell us more than to just ‘be aware and to train for anything.’ “What do you think, brother?” Seth asked through the link. “I think we should prepare for anything.” I answered and turned to Tyler. “Is there another sense of urgency like last time?” I asked. “I don’t think so, but it seems like it should be something good?” Tyler responded, slightly confused. Great. I’m sure they didn’t tell him anything either. We may be the next heirs, but we are left in the dark just like everyone else. A ding came through the cabin and the voice of the captain rang through the silence. “Welcome aboard McLarin’s. Please strap in and enjoy the nine-hour and thirteen-minute flight to Tolgan International.” With that, we found ourselves in the air to begin the long flight back home.
