CHAPTER 2 KATHLEEN~ I pinched Maureen's cheek when I arrived at the parking lot while she was waiting in front of my car. This car is a gift from our parents when I turned eighteen last year. A white corolla that Dad bought second hand but I'm so happy that I now have a car. I don't care if it's new or second hand. Maureen giggled and groans "What took you so long?" "Sorry--" I started to unlock the car while we got in, "--I was occupied earlier in the library." She stopped and looks at me, "With Theo?" I chuckled, "Nah-- I know what you're thinking." I looked at her, "--I am not making out with Theo at the library. I am with my friends." Maureen sighed, "God, Kathleen. I don't care if you make out with Theo at the public library." "I also thought it might be fun to do that." I joked and she laughed. She knows that I won't do that especially in public. And my relationship with Theo is nothing like that. We are not that immature and shallow to display some public affection for people to feast on. "Stop it, Kathleen. Just drive. I'm starving--" Then I started driving away but someone caught my eye outside my mirror. A tall man with a cigarette in his lips. 6'5 in height, I think. He is wearing a black jeans, a white shirt that hangs open the full sleeves tattoos with a messy hair, and a pair of brown piercing eyes looking at mine. Bishop King. He is already here. He saw me. He remembers me. A shiver run down my spine. "Kathleen, are you okay?" I nodded, "Yeah. Why?" "I was wondering if you were going to the party at St. Mary Chilles tonight?" Maureen looked at the window. I sighed, "I don't know yet. Why? Do you want to go?" Maureen shakes her head, "No. I was just curious if you were leaving tonight. You know, Mom and Dad aren't here tonight to watch over Pops at the hospital." "Are you not comfortable me leaving you tonight? It is okay. I am not interested in coming to that party anyway." I excused. But honestly, I will choose to stay with my sister than to have drinks all night. "No, you should go. I also have nothing to do at home but practice the piece for the recital." She smiled at me sweetly. "Yes, by the way, how are you doing? What are you going to play? Beethoven, too?" I forgot that Maureen is busy with the upcoming musical this spring break. Some scouts in Julliards will be there to watch the performance and Maureen was trying her best to make the scouts impressed with her performance. She is aiming for a scholarship because she knows Julliards is expensive. "Saint Saens." She said. "Wow, that's-- that's--" "Old?" She smiled and we both laughed. My phone rings along with me parking my car inside our farm house. As soon as I parked, Maureen immediately got out of the car and hurried into the house. I answered my phone, "Hey--" "Hey, busy bee. Where have you been?" Theo sheepishly asked me over the phone. "I'm sorry I couldn't wait for you. Maureen finished her piano practice early." I groans. "It's okay, we have time later." He says. "Uh--" I scratch my forehead ready to have some excuse for me not to go to the party for Eunice. "Don't tell me you don't want to go anymore?" I know Theo, he won't get angry or sulky over something as simple as me not going to the party with him. "Yeah-- If that's okay. Maureen is kind of scared or something but she doesn't want to tell me about it." I explains. "Babe, you don't have to explain. I'm fine. I can go with Zach and Corbin and I could also bring your friends there." I can hear the understanding in his voice. I smiled even though he couldn't see me. Theodore Stanley- is the Mayor's only son. We have been in love since kindergarten as we like to call it. But we have only started dating sophomore year. So, we are now two years as a couple. Theo is sweet, handsome with a good boy looks but mischievous. Charming and sexy. Many girls like Theo. I don't really know what he liked about me and I tried that he is faithful to me all through our relationship. I have a lot of trust in Theo and I love him. And I am confident that he also loves me too. When it comes to his family, his parents accepts me. Because my family and my parents are also known with lots of principles and my parents were respected by the townspeople even though we are not rich. What Theo and I have is one for the books and is the type of love you can watch in romance movies. I can't ask for anything more. When it comes to career, Theo and I are both go getters and we know what we want for ourselves in the future. Me as Ballerina and him as an NFL player. That's why this year is also important for Theo because this championship, there will be NFL Scouts too to watch the highlights of Theo's football game. Theo is the Quarterback and the one who brought home the championship trophy for two consecutive years since he reigns. And I couldn't be more proud than I am right now. "God, I love you!" I said it out loud and he chuckled in the phone. "I love you, Babe. I miss you." He says. Dad came out to the front porch of the house to look at me. "Babe, I have to go. Dad is going to kill me." I exagerates. "Say hi for me to them." "I will, enjoy the party and call me when you get home." Then I hung up and started running towards our front porch and hugs Dad who is smiling at me then kisses the top of my head, "Theo's keeping you." He jokes. "Apparently, your daughter is someone who is so hard to let go of." I amused and Dad chuckled, when I went inside the living room, Maureen is there smiling at me. "That is the truth." Dad adds. Mom came down the stairs and kissed me and Maureen. She looks tired and exhausted after Pops, her father had a stroke. "I cooked pasta in the kitchen. Just heat it up, Kath. Okay?" "Yes, Mom" I squeezed her hand. "Oh, before I forget. Matilde called me. She said you need to go to the studio. Emergency meeting." Mom adds. "Like right now?" I looked at Maureen. I did not go to the party to be with Maureen but Matilde has other plans. Matilde is my mentor in Ballet. She was the renowed professional Ballerina in Paris in her time. And she is Mom's bestfriend. "Yes, baby." Mom kissed me again, "--we have to go." Then they both leave. I looked at Maureen then she smiled at me, "Don't worry about me, Kathleen. You should go. What if it is something urgent." I nodded, "I'll be right back, soon as possible." Then I kissed her forehead. I was about to drove away when I received a text message from Matilde that send shivers along my spine, "Someone thrashed the whole studio and I don't want to scare you but something is odd." Then another ping on my phone, what I see makes me froze, it is my Ballet dress covered in red paint hanging on my locker along with my doll shoes with glass on it. Broken glasses. Who could have done something like this?
