Chapter 4: Beginning the Chase

~Austin Jade's POV~ I was up early to go into the kitchen. It honestly was the most peaceful in the mornings when I am by myself. I put on Violin Covers Radio on Spotify. The familiar sounds of songs I've heard before, but without the words, seem to help my mind focus. I found my recipes for the upcoming events and quickly got to measuring out ingredients. I was to make 400 assorted bite-size desserts for an upcoming event out in the mountains. I decided to make espresso and chocolate ganache tarts, mini apple pie tarts, mini pecan pie tarts, and strawberry cheesecake cream puffs. Only took about two hours to get everything measured out, organized, and ready to go. I didn't need to make them quite yet because the event was not for another three days however I didn't want to have to do everything all in one day. After cleaning up the kitchen and getting everything stored away, I left to go meet all Olive. She had packed up all of our stuff and had it waiting for me in the driveway. It was about an hour's drive out to Echo Mountain so I picked up snacks on the way home. Luckily it was still a weekday and everyone was still in a food coma from Christmas yesterday, so traffic wasn't that bad. We almost made it in record time. Even though we were riding backcountry today we still went out to ECHO Mountain because there is some great land near there and it was close enough to the shop if anything went wrong on a run. Being a werewolf has its perks. When you have no lifts to take you up to the top of the mountain. It only took us about 30 minutes to log our boards up to the top where a human would have taken at least two hours which means that we can get in a lot more runs for the day. The snow was in excellent condition today, We had such a great time out in the nice weather. I did notice some wolves running parallel to us about 100 yards away. I knew that we were dangerously close to a territory, but I figured us being on boards in full gear helps them be aware that we were not going to attack. Honestly, as a rogue, I've never been fearful of the packs in this area because all or most of the rogues in Boulder seem to have good heads on their shoulders. We are almost like a pack without actually being a pack. Everyone seems to look out for everyone else as long as no one is causing problems. A lot of us are alone or have very few family members because of the circumstances in which we were made rogues; whether we were born into the rogue life or forced into the rogue life and even choosing the rogue life. The rogues in this area kept themselves, which allowed us to be on good terms with the packs. The packs in this area were big contributors to businesses around town. That allowed us to have jobs where the pay was decent and we were respected for what we can provide to society rather than be judged where we stand on the totem pole as paranormal creatures. After several hours, we decided that we should probably head home to get some food. On our way home I remembered that I needed to call and make reservations for New Year's if we wanted to go back to Rhym. After three rings, a guy answered the phone. "Hello, thanks for calling Rhym, my name is Marco what can I help you with?" "Yes, I am calling because I would like to purchase two VIP tickets for your New Year's Eve bash." "You called with perfect timing. We are almost sold out. Can I get a name for the reservation?" "My name is Austin Tindall." "And what is your guest's name?" "Her name is Olive Masterson." "OK you guys are all set we will see you on Sunday!" he said eagerly. "Wait, how much do I owe you for the tickets and can I pay over the phone like I did the last time?" "It says here on my computer that you are a VIP since you attended the Christmas blackout masquerade, so your tickets for this event have been taken care of. "Oh! That is such a surprise! I am super excited about this party it's going to be one for the books! Thank you so much, and have a wonderful day." I hung up the phone. We pulled into the driveway just as it was getting dark. There was no point in unloading the jeep because we would probably be out again in the next day or so. I just had to remember to take my wet clothes inside. Olive and I settled on Chinese for dinner so she called in the order while I set up my camera to watch the sick footage of our runs from today. If I had enough, I would have to make a t****k with it. Food arrived not long after we both got out of the shower, and we were almost feral with hunger. I'm not sure if the delivery guy thought he what is delivering food to a small army or not, but the look on his face was priceless when he saw it was just us two compared to the amount of food we ordered. "Are you still mulling over the whole mate-potential whatever you wanna call it?" I asked Olive. "Just a little bit. I'm just really curious to know who he is, and why we are so lucky to get mates as rogues." "Maybe more rogues find their mate than we know about. I mean it would make sense that we would be more likely to find our mates since we have the freedom to go wherever we would like to go. You know, a lot of the rogues around here don't socialize so I'm not surprised that they haven't found their mate." "Yeah, and it's not like we travel a lot. So it's not like we know how things work in other parts of the world." She replied to my theory. She had a very valid point. I'll have to make it a point to ask my parents when they get back in the states. We spent the next few hours stuffing our faces, watching movies, and discussing what we were going to wear to the New Year's Eve Bash at Rhym. We decided that nothing in our closet would be good enough so we would head to the mall downtown to go shopping. It was a classier event than the Blackout Masquerade and we wanted to look out best! The next day we made our way into the city to get lunch and hit the mall. We ate at this cute little bistro downtown. They had the best Caprese panini and their fire-roasted tomato bisque was to die for! That was my favorite combo to get anywhere. You can never go wrong with grilled cheese and tomato soup, especially on a cold-ass day like today. After lunch, it was time to get shopping. Our first stop was Nordstrom. They always had a good selection but it was on the pricier side. I didn't mind paying a couple of hundred dollars for a dress if I could wear it more than once but I didn't ever want to pay thousands of dollars for something, especially if I met my mate and he just ripped it right off me! I've heard stories. I tried on a couple of sequin mini dresses but it just felt like too much. I love sparkle but I wanted to go for a more demure look. I guess the pressure of meeting my mate was making me more cautious with how I presented myself. Olive was the same way too. She was trying on longer dresses than her usual "barely-covers-the-ass" dresses. We moved on from Nordstrom and went to Francesca's. It is honestly slept on because they have so many hidden gems and they are reasonably priced. We searched high and low and I spotted this adorable black leather crop jacket. I just had to have it whether I wore it with whatever dress I bought or not. Olive found a pair of black sequin pumps that she just had to have. We checked out and went to express. Express was the holy grail of cute and classy club wear. Their clothes screamed class and style. I only made it halfway into the store when I found my dress! On the mannequin was an emerald green fit and flare midi dress with a thigh-high slit. I asked the associate if they had it in a size 6. She nodded and went to set us up with a dressing room. Olive found a similar dress in baby blue that she just had to have. We had always had the same taste, whether it be clothes, food, movies, and even guys. It was a shame we weren't sisters. We were almost like twins except she was shorter than I am and she has chocolate-colored beach-waved hair. We purchased the dresses and some green strappy heels I picked up and left. "I'm so excited about this party!" I said to Olive as we were getting my jeep. "I know me too." She replied grinning ear to ear. "Let's hope this new year brings our mate to us and new adventures." "Let's get smoothies to celebrate new adventures." "I'm down!" she agreed We went to Smoothie King got our favorite smoothies and went home to stash our dresses for Sunday's party. Olive went to her room to read her book and I made us carbonara for dinner. After dinner I took a long shower, exfoliating every part of my body. I lathered myself with moisturizer and put on my favorite jammies. Tomorrow I was going to get a mani-pedi, a wax, and finally a spray tan. I probably should have spaced them out better instead of trying to cram them all into one day but tomorrow was the only free day I had. Friday and Saturday I had to go into the Restaurant to finish up the desserts for the parties on Sunday. ~Ryker's POV~ I didn't sleep very well last night, which made getting up to lead training a b***h and a half. I tossed and turned dreaming about my mysterious mate. I hopped in the shower to freshen up before changing into my workout gear. As I made my way down to the training center, Tate and Wren joined me. "Man you look rough!" Tate said. "f**k off dude! I didn't sleep well." I said while punching him in the shoulder. "Have too many wet dreams about your mate!" he snickered. "Dude, I'm sure even if he did you'd never know you f*****g perv!" Wren defended me. "Keep talking and you'll be sparring with me today and I WON'T take it easy on you!" I threatened. These guys were like my brothers. We were born the same week and have been attached at the hip to each other ever since. Training went smoothly today and I ended up beating Tate's ass in sparring. That's what he deserves for never keeping his damn mouth shut! I'm sure his mate will give him a run for his money real soon! After training, we all got cleaned up and we to the dining hall for breakfast. Our Omegas had quite the spread as usual on our "Off Days." We piled our plates high with waffles, steak and eggs, and breakfast potatoes. Our head omega Ginger brought us some fresh orange juice and warm apple cider. The food never lasts long around here with all these hungry wolves. I'll have to expand my company if we ever meet our mates and have kids. Food will cost a small fortune, especially if I get my way and we have a lot of pups. Most alphas wish for a lot of pups, and it isn't all that uncommon that they get their way. Once breakfast wraps up I decide I'm gonna take the opportunity to do something different with my time today. I head to the garage and hop in my truck and make my way to the city. I figured if I'm going to hopefully be meeting my mate in the new week or so I should probably stock up on things she might like. I could have sent an Omega to do this for me but honestly, I wanted it to have a personal touch. I picked up all-new bedding, making sure to grab a few different sets just in case. I grabbed some colorful pillows for the couch in my suite, and a few rugs to throw on the floors. I didn't mind the cold hardwood floors but if I've learned anything from wren and charlotte, it's that women's feet are always cold. I figured there was a possibility we would be showering a lot so I bought a fluffy new robe to hang next to mine just in case. I went down the list of things I needed to make my suite feel fresh and inviting hoping that it was enough to satisfy my mate if she were to stay with me for a few days before fully moving into the pack house. I might have been getting ahead of myself a little because she might reject me but one could only hope that she'll accept me without hesitation. Just as I was pulling out of the store parking lot I received a text from Tate telling me that they spotted two girls and one matched the description of my potential mate. I sped home as fast as legally possible. I wanted to pull over and shift but the roads were just too busy for that today. I just knew I was going to miss her because I couldn't get home in time to stop them. Sure enough, as I pulled into the driveway Tate and Wren were waiting for me outside the pack house. "She's gone," Wren said frowning. "I had a feeling she would be. It's okay I'm sure it won't be the last time she cruises the backcountry." I assured him. "Our guards were so close! We should have just stopped them!" Tate said all pissed off. "Dude! Chill! We will see them again! Go beat off or something!" I joked. Tate stalked off to go blow off some steam. Wren and I headed upstairs to my office. Just as I was about to open my office door, Wren's phone rang. I could hear both sides of the conversation. "Hello, Sir it's Marco from Rhym." The man introduced himself. "Hello, What can do for you, Marco. Is everything okay at the Club?" When asked in a professional tone. "Yes, all is well. I was just calling to inform you that Miss Tindall called the club to purchase tickets to Sunday's big event. I saw in the instructions on our guest list to notify you right away if she were to contact us in any way." He said. "Yes, thank you! Did you do as I asked and comp her entry and put her on the balcony next to the Elite VIP area?" He asked. "Yes, I took care of it, and her guest as well. If that is okay sir." "Yes, any guest of Miss Tindall is more than welcome, thank you!" He assured. "That is all sir, please do have a good night," Marco said as he hung up. Wren turned to me grinning from ear to ear. "I'm guessing you heard all of that?" He asked. "You know I did." I smiled. "Well, we better let Tate know we are going out on Sunday. It might pull him out of his piss poor mood." Wren said as he was leaving my office. I forgot all of the s**t just sitting in my truck so I walked back out and pulled my truck into my private garage and hauled all of it into my private elevator. I'm glad I invested in this a few years ago. I'm sure the pack would be suspicious if I just traipsed through the pack house carrying a bunch of home goods up to my suite. I spent the next few hours cleaning and putting everything away in its new home. I felt like a b***h for doing all of this extra ass s**t, but it wouldn't matter if Austin came home with me. My world would be complete and I would move mountains for my mate.
