Chapter 1: The Party

I walked down the stairs wearing my body hugging red dress and black pouch. I was holding my heels for now because I don’t want to fall down the stairs. I walked slowly until I reached the bottom. Mom, Dad and my older brother Aki were already waiting for me. Tonight is my send-off party. I will be studying abroad and will be gone for four years but I am sure I will be home every Christmas though I’ll just stay for a very limited time only. “You look gorgeous!” Mom said. “You look just like me.” “Oh, thanks Mom, I love you.” I said and hugged her. “You are not allowed to have boyfriend yet, alright? You need to finish your studies first.” Dad said when I hugged him. “Of course Dad, it’s not yet on my mind.” To be honest, having a boyfriend for me is a big responsibility that I am not yet ready for. “Take care, sis, we’ll miss you here.” Aki said and hugged me as well. “I’ll miss you all too, life would be lonely without you. I love you.” I said as I took a tissue from my pouch and slightly wiped my eyes. “Oh, please don’t make me cry, I’ll look ugly.” “We love you so much, dear. Have fun tonight!” Mom said. “Okay, enough of this, our guests are waiting, come on.” Dad said as he guided as towards the garden area. The host of the event announced our arrival and the guests stood up to greet us. All of my friends, class mates and everyone I know were there. I see very familiar faces from Dad’s office as well. I am going to miss all of them. All my life I have been sheltered and my family has given me everything I needed. I was called onstage to give a speech since this event is solely for me. I went up and stood there facing the crowd. I took a deep breath and before I started talking.
