Chapter 2

After leaving the principal’s office, I walked to the classroom where my second period would take place, since there was no point going back to the first one. There were just a few minutes left from the end of the class anyway. When I reached the door of the classroom, I noticed Collin sitting on the bench in front of the door and only then did I remember that we had this class together as well. I saw him rolling his eyes without turning to me, so he knew that I was there. I just tried to be invisible and sat down on another bench far from him. He was too upset and I didn't want him to snap at me again. Soon the bell rang and hundreds of students filled the corridor. “Hey, Collin.” I saw the silver-haired guy walk up to Collin, who just scoffed at him and walked into the now empty classroom without paying attention to the guy. I think his name was Ricky or something like that and he was the brother of Collin if the rumours were true. What did I expect from Collin when he was that rude to his own brother? Here I thought the problem was with me again. I looked at the guy who had a sad expression on his face and I felt sorry for him. He was never rude to me and even smiled at me a few times in the past. He had his hair dyed to a shiny silver colour and it really looked good on him. There was nothing common between him and his brother, only their green eyes, which I was sure they inherited from their father, but that was all. The two of them were popular boys in school. Collin always got into trouble, while Ricky was the golden boy type. Maybe that’s why they didn’t get along in the first place. After the crowd lessened, I stood up and walked into the classroom and made my way to my seat quietly, but I stopped in my tracks when I noticed that my seat was taken by Collin. 'What was he up to?' I wondered. I just decided to leave it and wanted to sit behind him, but he put his hand on the table. “Sit somewhere else.” He said through gritted teeth, and I didn’t know what his problem was. I just let out a sigh and went to sit at the other end of the classroom, far away from him, and made myself comfortable while I took my stuff out of my bag. “You are sitting on my chair, raven girl,” a whiny voice called out to me, and I looked up to see Kenzie standing in front of me with her arms akimbo while glaring at me with a disgusted expression on her face. She was right, I was sitting in her place and suddenly I got a great idea. “Yeah ,because Collin wanted to sit with you.” I told her while I shrugged my shoulders and her eyes widened before she was grinning like an id*ot. She was the queen bee of the school, but she wasn’t so smart and I don’t need to tell you that she was head over heels for Collin. I looked towards him to see him already glaring at me angrily. ‘Did he hear me just now?’ I wondered, but then I dismissed my thoughts. There was no way he could have heard me when I was almost whispering. “Hi Collin.” Kenzie sat down next to him and I needed to hold back my giggles when I saw the expression on his face. 'That’s when your plan backfires, huh?' Did you get the twist with the fire? Whatever. I was sure he wouldn’t let this be and he would try to make me pay, but I didn’t care. They always bullied me anyway, so adding one person to the list was nothing. It was worth it. The teacher walked in and I opened my notebook to start to take notes, but I felt eyes burning the side of my face, which was very distracting and weird. I looked to the side to see Collin still glaring at me while Kenzie was whispering to him while giggling about something and I couldn’t help but smirk as I looked back at my notes. He was quite intimidating with his tall, muscular body and those intense green eyes, but if he thought he could scare me, he was wrong. Somehow, I knew that he would never hurt me physically because he wasn’t that kind of person, so I wasn’t worried, but maybe I shouldn’t poke the angry lion anymore. I didn't know him that well after all. My classes of the day went by quickly and it was lunchtime soon, which I was glad about. I was starving and, luckily, I got to have a free lunch every day in school. Every poor family got that help from the government and I think it has saved a lot of lives already. Mine for sure. That was the only good thing about going to school. After getting my food, I made my way outside like always, except in the wintertime. It was too cold so I used to go to the library to have a peaceful lunch alone. “Ughh…” suddenly someone appeared in front of me out of nowhere and the whole tray of food in my hand smashed against my chest, ruining my clothes, along with my lunch. “Look where you are going, Raven.” I looked up in disbelief and tried to hold my tears back. The whole cafeteria was laughing at my misery. I was so hungry and Collin chose to punish me like that. I also hated it when they called me Raven. Some thought that was my real name and some just wanted to call me names. Collin was smirking as he walked past me and I made my way to the restroom to clean the food off of my clothes while blinking my tears away. I hated when they messed with my food because most days I could only eat at school. I was already lightheaded, but luckily I could still eat the apple that I was carrying on the tray as well. It felt down to the floor, but it just needed to be washed. I walked out of the restroom with the apple in my hand, but again someone blocked my path. I clicked my tongue in annoyance when he snatched the apple out of my hand and started eating it in front of me. I couldn’t help, but looked up at Collin with a hurt expression because that apple was my last chance to eat something today, unless mom got to have some extra money, which I doubted. At first his expression softened, but then he just smirked at me and continued eating the apple while watching me. “Why are you such a big a*hole, Collin?” I screamed in his face frustratedly and pushed him as hard as I could. His expression transformed into a shocked one, just like mine when he, not only stumbled backwards, but he also fell on his butt and hit his head on the wall of the corridor hard. “Did you see that? I told you she wasn’t a human.” “She pushed him!” “What is she, to be able to push an Alpha’s son like that?” There were gasps and the whispering started, but I didn’t stick around to listen to them and took off running before Collin could realise what had just happened and came after me to take my head. I was running like my life depended on it and maybe it really did, but deep down I knew that it was over for me. As soon as he put his hands on me tomorrow, I was doomed. There were things I didn’t understand though. Why did they call him the Alpha‘s son? Was that their nickname for the principal? I ran home as fast as I could and locked myself into my room right away. I was really scared… What if he knew my address? Will he come here to take revenge for humiliating him in front of everyone? I jumped at every small noise that came from outside and I prayed to God that mom would arrive home soon from work, but then what? I still needed to go to school the next day. 'What am I going to do now? Maybe I should just look for him before he finds me and apologise, but I don’t think he would be happy either way.' I tried to come up with a plan. ‘Oh God.’ Why did I need to push him? I should have swallowed my pride and walked away with my head down, but no. I needed to push the bad boy of the school. What the hell was I thinking? I didn’t even know how I ended up in this situation. I always stayed out of Collin’s way and I didn’t even know why I provoked him in class when he took my seat. Why did he even do that? But most importantly, I didn’t understand how could I push him like that? It felt like I got a sudden energy boost and strength, but how? “Raya, are you okay?” I was so deep in my thoughts as I was chewing my nails that I failed to hear mom coming into the house. “Ughh… hi, mom. Yes, I am fine. How was work?” I asked her quickly. Trying to distract myself before she realized there was something wrong. “Tiring, but at least I could bring home some leftovers.” She said with a smile and my eyes lit up right away. She worked at a bar where they served some kinds of food as well, which came in handy a lot of times. “That’s great, I am starving.” I said and attacked the food in her bag right away, which made her chuckle. “Didn’t you eat in school not so long ago?” She asked, and I looked away from her. She didn’t know that I had skipped my last class, so I was thankful to the school that they didn’t call her. I guess I can thank my old friend for that, the principal. “Yeah, but I am still hungry. What can I say, I am still growing.” I told her with a smile and she laughed again. I didn’t want to tell her what had happened at school today, because she would be even more worried about me than she already was. “How was school?” She asked. ‘There you go.’ I hated to lie to her, but sometimes it was better that way. “Same as usual.” I told her while I stuffed my face with food. I was so hungry. “Alright. I will go to take a shower. You can eat that. I already ate.” She said, but I knew that wasn’t true so I left her half of the food. She used to ask me a lot of questions about school and if I had made friends already, but when the answer was always the same, she stopped asking, which I was grateful about. I guess she realized that that topic hurt me so she stopped asking for my sake. She always told me that I shouldn’t care about all those haters because they just didn’t like it if someone was different from them because they were all boring. She always made me laugh when she said things like that. After mom finished with her shower, I went to take one as well, while I was thinking about what to tell her so she would allow me to skip school the next day, but nothing came to my mind that was good enough. I didn’t want to tell her that I didn’t feel good because she would be worried about me then and that was the last thing I wanted. Usually, she left for work earlier than I left for school, so I thought I would just stay at home and figure out a good reason later.
