I can't believe I've been here for 2 weeks and nothing! Not one interview or lead. I huffed as I mumbled to myself. I'm so glad my cousin Jamie is letting me stay with her, rent free might I add, until I can get on my feet.
I walked over to a coffee shop in hopes for at least a part time job, anything is better than nothing at this point. I'm just trying to get on my feet right?
As I enter the coffee shop, I was drawn to the board on the wall. Most coffee shops have them where you can put flyers for upcoming events and jobs. Hoping I found just about anything, I skim through it quickly before someone comes up and takes my chance! Just then I spot a small card for a job placement service!
"Why didn't I think of that!" I growled to myself while hitting my head with the palm of my hand. I quickly take a picture of the number and run over to an empty table in the back and start dialing!
"Hello this is Brittany with the Los Angeles Job Placement Service, how can I help you today?"
Oh my, I thought as I tried to come up with the best words that sounded very professional.
Over the next 10 minutes, Brittany and I went over all my information, sending her my resume and my qualifications. As the call was ending, she told me I should hear back from her by the next day with some opportunities. Relieved that I might have an actual job soon, I finished my coffee and decided to call it quits for the day and headed home. Eager to get my feet propped up from job hunting all day.
As I walked in the door, Jamie was there with a glass of wine with her feet propped up.
"Long day too?" I said with a straight face to Jamie.
"Yep" She said slowly as she took another sip from the glass, "any luck?"
"I guess? I contacted a Job Placement Service and they sounded hopeful!" I Said with a half smile. Just then my phone rang and it was a Los Angeles number that I did not recognize.
"Maybe it's an interview?" Jamie said with excitement in her eyes.
"Maybe, but this late?" I said trying to not get my hopes up. "Hello?" I said with a hopeful voice.
"Hello, is this Sierra Wright?" Said a female voice on the other end.
"Yes this is her," I said trying to pay attention as Jamie is dancing around like I already got the job.
"Yes ma'am, this is Diana with WWIC, a company here in the Los Angeles region, I am so sorry for calling so late, but we received your resume and find that you would be a perfect fit for our office in our Western Location. Would you be able to come in first thing in the morning for an interview? If all is well, you would start immediately." Diana said.
My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when Jamie throws a pillow across the room to get my attention. I snap to and reply, "Of course, yes ma'am, thank you so much for this opportunity. I will see you at 8am."
At that moment, I hung up the phone and joined in the dance session with Jamie, until it hit me, "What am I going to wear?" I said with fear in my voice. "I don't have anything for a big corporation job!"
"Don't fear," Jamie said while standing on the couch with her hands on her hips like a super hero, I think the wine was getting to her. She then lead be to her closet and we spent the next hour figuring out what I was going to wear.
The next morning I got up early, making sure I had plenty of time to get ready, eat and get there! With it being a big corporation, I wanted to make sure I didn't seem too childish. I mean, they probably had so many people interviewing today, and they probably was going to pick someone else anyway, considering I didn't have that much experience working for a big corporation. I'm not even sure what position I was interviewing for. For all I know it could be for maintenance.
I arrived to the address that Diana had emailed over to me. It was a huge building in the downtown LA distract with the letters WWIC on the front over the door.
"Wow, so many windows." I said as I back into something hard.
I turned around to see what it was and I was face to chest. A very firm chest. My eyes searched up to the most beautiful green eyes I have ever seen.
"Are you ok?" the man spoke with a grin.
I began to stutter, trying to find my voice that decided to leave me in the moment of pure shock.
He chuckled, "I guess you hit your head?"
"Oh no, no I am fine, thank you. I am sorry I bumped into you. I was just in AW of this building. It so..big" as my eyes diverted to his arms and then back to his eyes. "I'm Sierra." I managed to get out clearly.
"You can call me Xander." he smiled full grin.
About that time his phone rang and he motioned that he needed to take this and walked away. I didn't think much of it, considering I didn't want to be late and rushed inside.
The interview was being held on the top floor, and since it was 110 floors, all I could think about was those green eyes.
Xander I thought to myself as I remembered his firm chest, and his thick arms. How his light brown hair just fell in the right place and his charcoal grey suit fit him just right.
At that moment I reached my floor and the doors opened. I saw so many desks, and people, and I began getting nervous. So nervous I felt like I needed to vomit!
About that time, I was greeted by a young blond,
"Hi you must be Sierra, I'm Diana. Let me show you to the interview room." She said with a bright smile. "You will be interviewing for the personal assistant position. Don't worry, the boss is so nice and he takes care of his employees very well." she said as she winked at me.
"Personal a-assitant. For the B-b-bosss??" I said with a horrified look on my face as I stuttered.
She giggled at me, "don't worry, like I said, Mr. Williams is very nice." She paged the office letting Mr. Williams know that I was there. "Right this way," she said as she opened the office door. As I walked in and sat down, Diana shut the door behind her as she left.
Nervously I cleared my throat and began to say hello as the chair turned around. My eyes widened as I looked into those beautiful green eyes that I was just thinking about. It was Xander.
