Chapter 2

I reach the wine of glass Nail hands to me and take a sip on it. We're inside a VIP room;it's huge, spacious, and cold. I'm sitting on a brown couch and Nail is across from me, seemingly contemplating what he will tell me or how is he going to start. He crosses his arms on his chest and leans his back. I take a deep breath to calm the rapid beating of my heart and wait for him to start saying something. “First of all, I want you to listen first before you react,” he says and stands up. I just nod and follow him with my gaze. Nick and Nail look very different but they are both handsome. At first, I couldn't believe that they are siblings. Actually, I just knew it months ago because of Nick. Nick frequents to the club even before he confessed to me. Every time he watches my performance, I intentionally flirt exaggeratedly with the man I'm performing in the hope to discourage him but it seems like it doesn't work. I think he even thinks that I'm leading him on. That's maybe the reason why he still continues on courting despite my rejection. “I heard that the landlord of the apartment you're living in only gives you a week to pay what you still haven't paid. That's why I chose you.” I don't react. I just wait for him to continue. “But aside from that, I firmly believe that you can do it.” Do what? Nail stops pacing back and effort and goes back to the couch and sits. He clasps his hands and leans in. “I know you can pleasure him, Val. I have a trust in your skills.” That's it? I've been pleasuring men for almost two years. That's just a piece of cake. I curl the corner of my lips and whip my hair. “It's my job for almost two years, Nail,” I remind him in case he forgot. “I don't mean it like what you're thinking.” The smile on my face fades and lines between my brows form. “What do you mean?” I ask as I reach the wine across the table and sip it. He looks me in the eyes. “One million dollars in exchange for your. . . body.” My eyes widen. For my what? No. I can't do it. I'm about to stand up but Nail hastily puts his hands on my shoulders and makes me sit back. “I'm not forcing you to do it, but please think more about it before you come back to me and tell me your decision. And remember you only have one week to pay your apartment.” It's a huge offer. If I accept it, I won't be worrying anymore about where I'm going to find money to pay for the apartment and I can also save for my studies. But in exchange for my body? If I can't find another way to pay the apartment, I think I have to swallow my pride and dignity. I let in a breath and say, “I'll tell you my decision tomorrow.” it will be a tough decision. Nailʼs lips break into a smile. “Good. You can perform now.” he sounds relieved and confident. I stand up from the couch and head outside. Cheska and some of the other girls are on the stage, performing around a topless guy. The people below them are shouting and cheering for them. I head straight to the changing area with Nailʼs words keep echoing in my head. “One million dollars in exchange for your body.” Who am I going to pleasure for one million dollars? An old man? A widower? I can't stand the thought of it. I feel utterly disgusted. I really need to think thoroughly about it. Luz told me that she would help me find some money, maybe she already found someone who will be able to lend. Hours pass by in a blink, I just finished performing around two men at a time and now I'm preparing to go home. Jessica cries because the man that she's performing, suddenly grabbed her and kissed her which caught her off guard. The man was forcibly scorted out and is permanently banned to enter the club. We're already told before the risk of working as a stripper. There will always be men that will go overboard. I feel bad for Jessica. She doesn't deserve this. She's too innocent for this job. Nick drives me home again. This time he doesn't talk a lot. Maybe, Nail told him about the man who offers me huge amount of money in exchange for my body. And I'm right. When we reach the place, he suddenly holds my hand when I'm about to climb out of the car and tells me that he could give me the amount of money I need but only if I would agree to be his boyfriend. I tell him that he needs to go home already before I slip out of the car and enter my apartment without waiting for his response. * “I'm sorry, Valeria. I tried to ask my friends if they have some extra money, but they said that they just paid their tuition and they only have few money left from their allowance,” Luz says. “It's fine. Don't worry,” I respond, trying to sound upbeat. I guess I really have to set aside my pride and degnity. “I'll still try my other friends. I'll let you know if they can lend you some money.” “Thank you, luz. I really appreciate you but I think I already know where to get the money I need.” Luzʼs eyes widen. “Don't tell me you're going to. . .” I laugh. “No. Of course not. What I mean is I already know whom to approach.” I have made up my mind to take the offer. It's my only choice. Bryan came again early in the morning. He said that he's letting me live in the apartment until tomorrow. That bald man is really something!
