Chapter 2: Act Like You Mean It (2) *** “Yeah, a big heart and a big bank account… isn’t that why you’re here?” Phillip said as his green pupils looked down on the other person. “I’ll admit you’re the best actor my parents have sent me so far… but I won’t fall for these tricks…” “I’m really not… playing around but if you don’t believe me that’s fine…” Owen said as he let go of the other’s hand that he was holding onto. “But… just… think about it for a bit…” As Phillip watched the other leave he had a single thought in his head. ‘His hand… was trembling…’ “Sir… may I interest you in a-” The butler of the household entered the room with a tray of food, yet before he could even finish his sentence the other shot him down. “No. I’m not hungry. Nor thirsty…” Philip said as he turned his back on the man. Something about the entire ordeal made him feel unsettled. ‘What if… he’s not… lying?’ He wondered to himself… * * * “That was a long shift! Good work to me!” Owen said as he opened the ice cold can of beer and laid down on his sofa. He felt his body’s muscles relax after the long shower he took. He was tired from coming up with all those lies to tell the man he’s supposed to be pursuing… “Damn… those parents really are weird… I didn’t believe them at first but now I see why… Their son is such a stick in the mud, the guy doesn’t even believe in love at first sight, what a boring person…” Owen said muttering to himself where no one could hear him in his single bedroom apartment. He lived with little but in the end it was all for the sake of one day being able to live the life of luxury he always wanted to live in. And for that goal, it was little he wasn’t willing to do, even if it meant getting married and pretending to be the perfect husband to a random guy he’d never even seen before… “Though… he was pretty good looking, I guess those good looks are just wasted on such a man… He’s already 35 and he still hasn’t found himself a partner, I kinda feel sad for him…” Owen continued speaking to himself in the empty apartment. He always felt better when talking to himself like this, it allowed him to clearly relate his thoughts and to plan things for up ahead. Of course many people would find this kind of behavior odd but to Owen it didn’t matter at the very least… After all, there was no one in his lonesome apartment to judge him… He had started living on his own when he became 19 years old… He had just graduated from High School and he was heading out to University with a scholarship but… his mother fell ill and she was hospitalized, after about a three month of surgeries and medication, she died of an untreated tumor… Ever since then he’s been living in the same apartment he always has… just alone… His father had left him quite some time ago and then his mother left too… Both of his parents being deceased, he had to work for himself which was probably the most difficult part… Thankfully Owen had a kindhearted grandmother who paid his mother’s hospital bills, so the man wasn’t in debt… but he wasn’t able to go to University either… He managed to miss all his tests and didn’t have time to study for anything… thus missing all the deadlines and in the end he didn’t even have the ability to redo the tests since he had no knowledge of the subjects. He was far too worried for his mother but that worry led him nowhere since she still died in the end… Now Owen, 27 years old is working a particular job… It’s not really being an actor but you could say it is an acting job, just not on the big screen… Owen was hired by the Monte family to wed to their youngest son Philip… Philip had always been an antisocial person, he never allowed others to get too close to him, nor did he get too close to anyone… The only reason he discovered he was gay was due to the one person that treated him like a friend throughout his High School years… however that same friend had cut off all contact with Philip after finding out about the man’s feelings… Ever since then Philip became even more distant to the point where now at 35 years old he still doesn’t have a relationship and there is no reason for his parents to believe the man would ever be in a relationship in his lifetime… So they hired Owen, who was an experienced actor, some of his past part time jobs being a bit questionable bit what they liked about the man was that he was dependable and just greedy enough for them to be able to sway him. Other than that… Owen had accidentally helped one of their family members, but that’s an entirely different story… “I wonder… what should I do next… I need to meet him somewhere and show him we have common interests… hm… I should probably ask what stores he frequents and what things he likes… that might help me out…” Owen carefully thought of his next move as he stared up at his ceiling. Then after figuring what he needed to know he texted the number of one of the servants of the household. He was the one giving out all the information to Owen. After the man receives the message, he quickly deletes them as to not leave any evidence of the fact this is all an act… “Hm… that seems like a good idea…” Owen muttered as he read the messages. “Tomorrow’s gonna be another long day!” He said as he put his phone aside after setting the alarm. He pulled out a blanked at curled in a ball, falling asleep on the sofa…
