Chapter II: The Judgment of Light

1374 Words
“May the Lord’s Light be with you.” The presiding judge crossed his hands on his chest, which was the ritual of the Church of Light. “Carl, your sins have been determined, and the dirty sins have been integrated into your flesh, hair and marrow, making me smell the stench of heresy.” “Only the burning stake that shines brightly can wash away the dirty sins on your body.” “Together with the witch, accept the burning of the stake and burn the sins in your souls!” The presiding judge was indifferent and solemn as he looks at Carl. The moon-white elegant robe forms a strong contrast with the blood-stained Carl and the dirty little witch girl on the stake. The presiding judge’s mood does not fluctuate. He has gone through a lot of heresy trails. This was just a process. “Yes!” Weakly, but with a hint of firmness. Carl opened his chapped lips, raised his head, and intertwined with the presiding judge’s eyes. “Yes?” The presiding judge’s eyes became instantly sharp, and his falcon-like gaze fell on Carl. Full of doubt! As if saying, what qualifications do you have to say yes? “Presiding judge.” At this moment, Carl was a lot more awake, at least he was no longer dominated by simple instincts. Instead, he can begin to analyze his own situation and countermeasures. His situation was very bad. However, at that moment, Carl softly laughed. “Since the Light is everywhere, everything should be seen calmly under the Light, but why is only the execution by fire made public, while the evidence of the verdict is not mentioned at all? Isn’t it the best proof that I have been wronged?” Carl’s voice was calm. He knows that he must not be anxious! Now, time was equivalent to the countdown of his life, but he needed a clearer reason and mind. He has directed tens of thousands of workers on a project, and he has the confidence. Also, the pattern with the royal emblem. Of course, the presiding judge knows about this. Perhaps, he is just helping the king save face. But this may be King Stephen’s hidden intent... King Stephen may not have really given up on him completely. Regardless of whether his guess was correct, this was an opportunity and a gamble! He had no other choice. “With solid evidence, your procrastination is only aggravating your sin.” The presiding judge frowns. “You have betrayed the teachings, and the Light is out of sight.” Carl said. The presiding judge was choked, and his belief was questioned by a heretic. He paused, and then spoke again. “The evidence is so strong that there is no need for a trial. How do you explain this filthy witch?” The presiding judge’s expression remained unchanged. “I don’t know her!” “How can you prove that she was originally in my room, instead of someone framing me?” “The Church of Light should be fair. Everything can be under the Light, and there is nothing that cannot be explained under the Light.” “I have reason to doubt that some people in the Church of Light... Betrayed the faith of Light, and sacrificed me as a stepping stone to some people’s authority in order to gain a foothold in Yorick Kingdom.” Carl was in no rush. He couldn’t let himself make the slightest mistake. What’s more, he needed to save his strength. Originally, he wanted to directly express his doubts about the Church of Light, but that is undoubtedly courting death. If he directly questions the Church of Light, he will immediately be deemed as a heretic, and the stake will unavoidably be set on fire. So, he changed his approach. Just saying, some people.  “You are very presumptuous! You are unscrupulously relying on your identity. Do you think those people will roar for you?” There was a hint of anger in the presiding judge’s eyes, but he didn’t lose his own control. Carl’s behavior, in his eyes, was nothing more than using his identity to refute the Church of Light. If there was not enough convincing reason, he could recklessly make himself a person who had been wronged. The so-called establishment of authority of the Church of Light will inevitably lose its effect. “I’m just trying to survive, Lord Judge.” Carl said lightly. In fact, Carl’s words had some effect. This was also the only means he could use. The Church of Light adopted the way of open judgment for the sake of authority, and would also be subject to the restrictions brought about by open judgment. Everything was under the Light! The presiding judge frowned and said with a sneer: “Heretics are indeed cunning and villains, but all your cunning is false in front of the God of Light.” “The evidence has been revealed; the Light has been seen. Right now, this is the trial!” He didn’t want to be entangled with this guy anymore. But he saw Carl smiling indifferently and said, “So, I demand the Judgment of Light to me!” The presiding judge was stunned. Judgment of Light! For most people, the Judgment of Light was harsher than the punishment. Because, those who can pass the Judgment of Light are all geniuses from the Church of Light, who would be the focus of attention of the Church of Light. It could even be said that this was the power of God. What was needed was a pure soul and a pure mind. It was impossible for any ordinary person to survive the verdict of the Judgment of Light in an intact manner. Of course, the Judgment of Light is the most just. It was completely the power of God, and no one can control it. “Do you know what the Judgment of Light means?” The presiding judge said as he gave Carl a deep look. “I know, and I know the consequences.” Carl answered without hesitation. “However, you may not be qualified for this.” The presiding judge said again. “I, the eldest prince of Yorick, won’t die in humiliation!” “You thought that by judging me, the authority of the Church of Light can override the King and be rooted in the hearts of the people.” “You are wrong! History will remember everything today, and the people of Yorick will remember this day.” “Their prince is framed to death by you.” “The people of Yorick will see it as a disgrace.” “What you want is to rule from above, or to harvest their beliefs. I think you know this very well.” “You are not the Caesar Empire. You are the Church of Light, the messenger of the God of Light!” Carl said loudly. He was also gambling that the judge was the judge of the Church of Light. They absolutely don’t want to be mere rulers, what they need was to develop a new belief! “Judgment of Light… The prince applied for the Judgment of Light.” “I knew it wasn’t possible for the prince to get mixed up with the wizards. The witch will have no place to hide under the Judgment of Light, and there will be no residue left.” “Yes, today, if the prince dies for nothing, it will be a day of shame for my Yorick Kingdom. I swear, I will never believe in the Light.” Under the stage, the people of the royal city gradually became excited. Carl’s loud voice gave them confidence. “Okay! I’ll satisfy you!” The presiding judge looked at Carl deeply and nodded. This Carl was very different from yesterday! If he hadn’t been under strict supervision, he would even suspect that Carl had been replaced. Not long after, a group of missionaries from the Church of Light quickly brought a box to the presiding judge. The presiding judge opened the box, and in it, a disc with the size of a palm was taken out.
