He is our only hope

He is our only hope ‘Isn’t it interesting how one bullet is all it takes’, the note read. Fastened to it to a string was a bullet’s case. Robert Jenkins analyzed it with a scrutinizing gaze, his facial expressions growing different shades darker. He crumpled the pair and brusquely flung it across the sitting room. “ They are getting bolder,” he said through gritted teeth “ cowards think threats would work on me” “ I found it on the backseat of my car,” a young woman in gym stretches said. She had black raven hair with blue eyes that perfectly complemented her supple clear skin. An excellent beauty in every way. “ Why don’t you just give them what they want? Sooner or later they’ll be acting on their threats.” An older woman proposed. She had short brown hair and bore an uncanny resemblance to the young woman in gym-wear. “ Definitely not, Isabella” Robert snappily shook his head “ in the wrong hands, this technology could bring catastrophic consequences.” “ They are threatening to kill our daughter. Is the technology worth more than her life?” Isabella posed hands akimbo, she was visibly incensed. “ She will be protected from my work. A special man is travelling from a distant island, he’ll keep her safe.” “ I had two former army troopers with me and this still happened.” The young woman said, “ I doubt anyone could keep us safe from those people. Why don’t you just give them this…software, you’ll just invent another one.” “ It’s not just a software Charlotte, it’s a BCI techno….” Robert paused when he saw the bored expressions on his wife and daughter’s faces. “ Never mind, this man has been training ever since he was young. He moves faster than a bullet and he is the most intelligent man I have ever known. He is in his prime and the only thing that drives him is his tenacity to complete any mission with ultimate perfection. He is the best of the best.” “ He sounds amazing…and unreal. Have you ever seen such a man in action?” Charlotte quizzed, almost a hundred percent sure that her dad was bluffing if not over-praising the man. “ N-no, my old friend gave me his word…” “ Goodness” Isabella sighed, her right palm on her forehead “ Why don’t I get a new young intelligent bodyguard?” asked a man insouciantly sprawled over a couch in front of a video game PC. He looked a bit older than Charlotte, probably in his late twenties but not over thirty. “ You need protection while playing video games?” a sarcastic undertone was perceptible in Charlotte’s voice “ I get out too, a lot” the man took off his headphones and said disgruntledly. “ Charlotte doesn’t have the luxury or driving around in an entourage of six cars to university. It’s already enough that our family is getting this much attention, we wouldn’t want to make it any worse for her.” “ So you got her a young new bodyguard who moves like a bullet? You are playing favorites again.” “ Aren’t a dozen bodyguards enough for you?” Robert snapped, nostrils flared “ perhaps if you could find something productive to do with your life other than playing video games, I would have considered getting you one too.” “ We have money and I’m the heir to…” “ Dylan, just don’t” Isabella interjected “ and Robert, this is the last trick you are pulling with Charlotte’s life. If it gets any worse I swear….” “ I know” Robert said solemnly then glanced at a message that had just popped up on his phone’s screen. “Speak of the devil.”
