Chapter Two
“First meeting”
Two days pass by, and I have all of my connections in every supernatural race scouring for the people who killed my brother.
Apparently they’re rogue demons, which is both good and bad. Good, because nobody will care if I kill the whole family. Bad, because nobody has any f*****g idea where they are.
The one man who I’m going to see today, however, might have some information.
His name is Sam. He’s second in command of William’s pack.
He was my assigned date at Artemis’s wedding. We hit it off really well, but I ended it at the wedding in Hawaii. I held back from sleeping with him, and didn’t give him my number. I couldn’t afford distractions back then.
Still can’t.
But, I have to see him for my brothers sake. For the sake of revenge. I’m meeting him at his penthouse apartment, which happens to be only a few blocks away from mine. Easily walking distance.
So, once I get home from work, I change into more casual attire- and head over to his place.
I’m clad in a casual black skirt, with a white shirt, black cardigan, and white heels. It’s a semi- casual outfit, and is actually rather comfortable. Very appropriate for a small dinner at an apartment.
Sam insisted on cooking us dinner when I called him, even when I told him I’d only need a few minutes of his time.
Though I don’t completely mind. I mean, s**t, the man is practically a Greek god. I’d f**k him into next week and probably still want more, which is strange- because first, I don’t f**k guys often and second, I never f**k the same one night stand twice. And that’s what Sam would be- a one night stand. I don’t have time for more.
And besides, I’m waiting for my mate. And who the f**k knows when he’ll come along?
As soon as I step in his building, the doorman greets me warmly and sends me straight up to the penthouse.
The elevator opens directly to the foyer of the apartment, where Sam stands.
He’s looking like a god, standing in a crisp white button down shirt and black slacks. Everything about him is obscenely sexy.
I have a legitimately difficult time keeping my composure.
“Mr. Orion, thank you so much for meeting me on such short notice” I say, attempting to stay formal so that I don’t jump on him right now.
Both Faye and Demons are known for a high s*x drive, and known for being f*****g amazing in bed.
“I heard that you recently left William’s pack to become prince of another. Congratulations” I say, ignoring the lustful look in his eyes and how he can’t stop looking at my body.”
“Thank you, Ms. Elpis. Please, come in. I’ve just finished dinner.”
I glance around his apartment the further he leads me in, unable to keep myself from admiring the fantastic decoration.
He pulls out a seat for me once in the dining room. The table is set for two, and various dishes lay on the table. I wait for him to start loading his plate before I delicately take a little bit of food on mine. I want to get the f**k out of here as soon as possible before my composure completely cracks.
“Ms. Elpis, I’m so sorry for your loss.” He says kindly, smiling at me sincerely.
Every time someone’s said that since Ryan’s passing, I get annoyed. But when Sam says it I melt inside, truly feeling comforted.
“Thank you” I say, actually meaning it.
“Now, in terms of the rogues. I had a report that they were sighted on the outskirts of Russia near a small village. I can email you all of the information.”
I nod, and we discuss more information as we finish dinner. As soon as we’re done I stand, and politely thank him. He holds out his hand presumably to shake, and I pause.
What if… what if he’s my mate? He’ll be able to tell if physical contact is made. And f**k, I do not have time for a mate.
Although he doesn’t know where I live, and he won’t be able to find out. But he does know where I work, and it is common for the male mate to kidnap the female if the female refuses to acknowledge him.
Looking in his eyes, I decide to risk it. I mean, what are the odds? Very, very slim.
I take a hold of his hand, and freeze as his eyes darken.
“Mine” he whispers, and I snatch my hand back as if I’ve been burned.
I don’t know how I end up making it out of the building without him following me, but I do.
That night I set every alarm I have in my home. I’m not taking any chances.
Okay, how am I going to avoid him? I seriously don’t have time for a mate in my life. Not now, and certainly not any time soon.
I make it through the night without any disturbances from a particular demon who I doubt will leave me alone once he finds me.
The next day I come in to work tired as hell from barely sleeping the night before. Most supernatural creatures don’t need much sleep, but Faye need a lot. Sleep is the way our magical and physical energy replenishes itself after a long day.
As soon as I set down my purse and plop into my office seat, Artemis bursts in.
“What the f**k do you want?” I sigh. I’m generally bitchy, but I’m not normally this bitchy with Artemis, so she looks slightly taken aback.
“I know about Sam” she admits.
Fantastic.
“As somebody who has a demon mate, I can assure you that Sam will come for you. As you know he just became a prince of a different pack, so he especially needs his mate. Now that he knows who his mate is, he’ll chase you till the end of time. Now, knowing Sam- which I do- he won’t be as aggressive as Will who initially starved me and then assaulted me.”
I give her a wide eyed look. Will did what?
“Demons are possessive and s****l creatures.” She explains, and I shake my head. If Sam even thinks about-
“Sam will not be so drastic, but I will not put it past him to kidnap you and refuse to leave your side until you accept him. At this point you really can’t avoid it- so I have one crucial piece of advice. Don’t resist the mate pull. Give in. You don’t have to finish mating immediately by any means, but the mate pull will make both of you want to f**k each other’s brains out. Let. It. Happen.”
I shake my head.
“I don’t have the f*****g time to get kidnapped. f**k, I’m getting out of the country for a while.”
I’ve vowed not to go back to the Faye realm until my brother’s death is avenged, unless there’s a dire need.
“He’ll find you, Lace. And he won’t be happy. Never run from a Demon.”
I grab my purse, car keys, and wallet before heading out.
“I’ll text you later” I mutter.
“You’re screwed” Artemis calls after me.
I get into the elevator and press the garage level, shaking my leg out of anxiety.
On top of all the s**t going on I now have to run from my stupid f*****g mate. How perfect. I pull out my phone to check flights and hotel arrangements. I’m going to Russia as soon as possible.
When the elevator door opens I don’t bother looking up from my phone, and end up walking directly into someone. My phone drops out of my hands.
“s**t” I mutter, bending down to pick it up.
When I stand and get ready to yell at the perpetrator, I see that it’s none other then Sam f*****g Orion.
“Yeah, s**t is right” he growls, taking a hold of my wrist and starting to drag me out of the elevator.
His grip on my wrist is firm, but I can tell he’s making sure not to hurt me.
I try to stop or get away, but he’s far stronger than I am. And unfortunately, with him being my mate, he can negate my powers. So when I try to make him pass out with a spell, he only shivers slightly.
“Sam, let go! I have s**t to do! Stop!”
To my surprise he does stop, and I crash into him.
“You motherfu-“ he cuts off my swear by crushing his lips to mine.
My immediate reaction is to fight, but I find myself unable to.
In fact, I find myself becoming more turned on than I have ever been.
His kiss is hot. Passionate. It says everything that words can’t- and the main message is he wants me. Mind, body, soul.
And with his lips on mine, I’m tempted to give myself to him.
After a few moments he breaks away so we can breathe. Coming to my senses my eyes widen, and I try to run- but he has a hold on my wrist before I can.
Before I know it I’m in the back of a limo with him, handcuffed to my seat, and swearing at him in multiple languages.
“Did you just tell me to suck your d**k in Russian?” he asks, and I freeze.
How the f**k…?
“You know Russian?” I retort, trying to keep the surprise off of my face. Sam just laughs.
“I’m sorry, is something f*****g funny?” I snap.
“My demon is very, very old.” He admits.
“Your demon? Demon’s have… a demon? Does William?”
“William is of a more common line of demons, who simply have a “Demonic half”. With my bloodline, that other half is an actual being, or entity if you want to call it that, who can come out. The human part of us primarily controls it, but it is a more distinguished being. So with Will, there are times when his demonic half shows. With me it’s a lot more intense, because my actual demon comes out.”
I blink several times.
“So a demon is kind of part of your soul. Souls are recycled and reincarnated, yet the demon attached to the soul is never reborn. It simply continues to exist. So my Demon is very, very old- as I just said.”
I run my free hand through my hair.
“Okay, Sam, listen please. I don’t have time for this mating bullshit-“
“I’ll stop you right there, Lacey. My demon, and therefore me, has been looking for its mate throughout all of its lives. In my bloodline, the human that’s merged with the demon only becomes immortal with their mate by their sides. Otherwise they age, but very slowly.”
“I don’t f*****g care, Samuel. Let me make something clear- I don’t give a s**t about many people. I’m a Fairy, for f***s sake. We hate everyone. Some Faye even hate their mates for being of a different species. Now, I’m not particularly hateful to anyone, but I am in no mood to deal with anyone who isn’t family, like family, or Fairy. So get this handcuff the f**k off of me and leave me alone!”
Sam stares at me while I speak, and continues staring in silence for about 30 seconds before speaking up.
“Are you done throwing your fit?” he asks calmly.
Oh, he did not just go there.
“I’m a royal, Samuel. That wasn’t a fit. If you would like to see what a fit of mine looks like, just let me know. I’ll gladly make it rain blood.” I say with a pleasant smile. He clenches his jaw, clearly understanding that I’m not kidding.
“Too bad you can’t do anything unless I allow you to.” He retorts.
Fuck, he’s right. A female Faye’s mate, if supernatural, can suppress the Faye’s power.
So I go back to cursing him in several languages, this time throwing in ancient and dead languages.
“If you swear at me in Celtic one more time I will f**k your brains out right now. And we both know you want it.” He warns.
Fuck me, he’s right.
