Chapter 3

1039 Words
GRACE A human? Of course, I am a human. What is he? In the movies, they said that if you look at their eyes, you can get sucked in. Hypnotized or something in that manner. I felt his cold fingertips caressing my cheek, and I felt a chill on my spine. I tried to speak again, but no words came out. This has never happened before, and I am not scared for my life. I am afraid for my child. Push him. Who’s talking? I know I’ve heard something. Push him. I shook my head. I am going crazy. I thought this man was a vampire, and now I hear voices in my goddamn head. The wind blew and lifted my hair from my neck. The man closed his eyes and sniffed the air. His fangs started to come out. I pushed him with all my might, and he probably didn’t expect it because he was taken aback. I began to run, but he was so fast, and he grabbed my hair. “You’re mine, amore.” “Let go of me!” I stepped on his foot and applied what I learned from those self-defense videos I watched online. But he was too strong and too fast for me. It can’t be the end for me. I have my baby now. “Help!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Somebody!” Tears mostly work with men. I’ll fake some tears, and maybe he will show me some mercy. “No one can hear you, amore. Don’t be scared. This will only hurt for a bit, and everything will be okay.” My God! Even his breath is chilly. And then I thought about kicking his balls, one last try, I said to myself. I wiped my damn fake tears. Hopefully, his balls aren’t frozen! I mentally smirked. “Since no one can hear me, and this is the end of me — I want to face you when you do it.” “That can be arranged.” His devious smile is enough to give anyone cold feet, but not me. I will fight to the death for my child. Kick him now, Grace. There’s that stupid voice again. Who are you calling stupid? Ugh, will you stop! He was about to bite my neck when I kneed him in the balls. But as soon as I turned, he was already in front of me. Damn! He’s fast. “You little wench!” His voice cut like a knife. I gave him a sly smile when I noticed he was cradling his balls. I guess it was not frozen after all. But he put his hand on my neck and lifted me off the ground. s**t. It’s hard to breathe! “You didn’t tell me you wanted a slow death. I’m going to —“ The next thing I know, I dropped on the floor, and there’s that familiar man who hangs out in the coffee shop when I’m on my shift. He smacked the cold one’s arm. Thus, he let go of my throat. This man doesn’t stand a chance with the — OH. MY. GOD. His nails are getting long, and — he turned into a big dog, and everything went black. VICTOR I can’t believe a vampire would be after her. Okay, she’s human. That’s given and very pretty at that. Any human being with a heart, pumping blood to their veins, will be a delicacy for the likes of the cold one. But the way Valentine toyed around her doesn’t seem normal. He usually devours his prey immediately, but this woman, a server in the coffee shop, seems to be special to him. What is so special with Grace Aspen? Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. As soon as I shifted, she passed out! My thoughts were cut short when Valentine spoke. “Well, we meet again. How are you, Victor?” The last time I saw him was in Italy. I was there with my sister. Anyway, I won’t attack him if he leaves quietly. There is no way he can have Grace. Over my dead body. And that’s not going to happen anytime soon. The woman behind me is still unconscious. He was about to attack me when he changed his mind and saw that I was not alone. My pack is here, about twelve of them, and they are skilled. “This is not over, Victor. I will be back for her.” He shimmered after he said that. At least there’s no bloodbath tonight. We all shifted back and got dressed quickly. Because if Grace wakes up and finds that there are a dozen naked men in front of her, she might pass out again. I picked her up and put her inside the car. “Let’s go to the manor,” I told Boris. He’s the one behind the wheel tonight. When I am in New York, I stay at the Clovervale Chateau. It’s pretty big and close to the woods. It’s up in Vermont, where it’s over seventy-five percent forested. It’s about a five-hour or so drive from here. I noticed Grace’s baby bump. I have been watching her for the last five years, but I have been busy, so I was gone for two weeks. I just got back today, and look what happened to her. The first time I saw her, I thought it was just a mere crush. I hate to say that because I am already twenty-five. However, I feel like I’m in high school when she’s around. I haven’t found my mate, but I have no problem marrying a chosen mate — as long as it is Grace. I will accept her child as my own if she will have me. I was wondering who got her pregnant because, for the last few years, she didn’t even go on dates. Even in university, her face was mostly buried in books. I know her routine — apartment, work, school, and back to the apartment. On payday, she visits those thrift stores — sometimes with her friend, Erika, a witch, but I don’t think Grace is aware of it.
