"Hey, boss." I looked up from my desk at Nolan and frowned. "What?" I growled. "You ready?" he asked. My brow furrowed in confusion. "Ready for what?" Nolan shook his head. "Dude, come on," he groused. When my expression didn't change, his head dropped in frustration. "The game?" I sighed. "Right," I said, and stood up. "Where are we going again?" Nolan rolled his eyes. "Sandy Springs Prep." "A human school again, huh?" Nolan chuckled and shrugged his broad shoulders. "Like we have much of a choice." I smiled and tossed him an energy drink from the fridge behind my desk. "We'll probably need these to stay awake," I mused. We walked down the hall of the pack house and out the large double doors onto the landing. I'll be there momentarily, Alpha, my driver, Gregg, mind-linked to me. Nolan nudged me with his hip. "I thought you liked watching David and Goliath matches." I grimaced. "Yeah, but in our case, Goliath always wins." "True, that," Nolan agreed. One of the pack's black Land Rover's pulled up, and Nolan and I climbed inside. Nolan sat up front with Gregg. "Alpha. Beta," Gregg said, and nodded. Nolan grinned. "How are you, Gregg?" Gregg and Nolan started talking about Nolan's mate, who also happened to be my little sister and a player on the Crescent Academy basketball team, which is why we were pulling onto the Connector and heading to Sandy Springs. I rolled my eyes as I tuned out their conversation and began browsing social media on my phone. On a whim, I pulled up the girls' basketball team for Sandy Springs Prep. The team picture caught my eye when I saw a teen girl with a mess of golden curls standing in the back row of the group. My eyes widened as I scanned the team roster and found her name. Rosalie Jenkins Rosalie... Rosie?? Unbelievable. I could feel Tenebris getting anxious. I growled quietly. I need you to calm down. But, mate! She's grown up! We're finally going to see her again! Tenebris howled in excitement and began pacing around in my head. I growled again, loud enough for Nolan to hear me. He turned back. "Everything ok, boss?" he asked. I scowled and handed my phone to him. "Look," I barked. Nolan took the phone and whistled. "Damn, boss." He handed the phone back to me. "You think it's her?" "I don't know for sure, but maybe," I guessed. Nolan put his hand on my shoulder. "That's harsh. If it is, are you going to do it?" I looked up at him and frowned. "Do what?" "Reject her." I grimaced. "Probably. I can't be mated to a human." Nolan shrugged. "Ok. But you know the Moon Goddess mated you two for a reason. I mean…" My brow furrowed and Nolan clamped his mouth shut. "Sorry, Alpha," he said, quietly. I sat back in my seat with a huff. "Nolan, I know that. Tenebris is going absolutely nuts in my head right now. It's really f*****g distracting." Nolan's eyes narrowed in annoyance. "You two really need to work this out, John," he grumbled. "This little war you two have going on is causing major problems with the pack, and I can't keep…" "You stay out of it!" I roared. I frequently forgot how my aura could affect wolves in my pack, especially Omegas like Gregg. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him shrink into his seat and lower his head submissively. My shoulder rammed into the door as the Land Rover swerved into the other traffic lanes. "Jesus!" Nolan shouted as horns blared around us. I reached for the grab handle above my door, howling in alarm. Nolan grabbed the wheel and straightened out the Rover before we were hit. "Gregg!" he yelled. Gregg looked up and grabbed the wheel. "Sorry, Beta. Alpha," he whispered. Nolan glanced back at me in fury. "It's not your fault, Gregg," he snarled. "Stop the car." Gregg pulled over onto the shoulder and brought the car to a stop. Nolan climbed out and yanked my door open. "Get out!" he raged. "Seriously?" I retorted as I unbuckled my seat belt. I stepped out only to be flattened by Nolan's right hook. "What the f**k, man!" I exclaimed as I jumped to my feet. Nolan was pacing beside the Rover, his eyes swimming gray and green. His wolf was close. s**t. "Nolan, stop," I said. Nolan glanced at me and sneered. His canines were elongated. "Nolan!" I commanded. "Stop! Look at me!" Nolan looked up and flashed his canines. "Yes, Alpha," he snapped. "Nolan!" I roared. He crouched in submission as his canines retracted and his eyes returned to their normal green, but his face remained contorted in anger. I stared at my Beta. He had never challenged me before. "Nolan," I growled. "Don't do this." He looked away. "I'm not challenging you, Alpha," he said quietly. "I'm just pissed." "I can see that," I spluttered. I looked at the ground. "This isn't about almost killing us, is it?" Nolan turned and glared at me again briefly and turned away again. "No, Alpha." I sighed and ran my fingers through my wavy black hair. "Tell you what. Let's talk on the training field in the morning. You can pummel me to your heart's desire while telling me what a crap Alpha I am. Will that make you feel better?" I heard Nolan chuckle quietly. "It might," he shot back sarcastically. A light mist began to fall as I stared at my Beta. I looked up in exasperation and groaned. "Can we get back in the car then?" Nolan began to laugh, and I joined him. He stood and clapped my shoulder. "Alpha, you piss me off sometimes." I shrugged. "And? I piss everyone off eventually." He stopped laughing and looked me in the eyes. They swirled grey for just a moment as a wicked smile crossed his lips. "You're going to get it tomorrow," he warned. I shrugged again. "Looking forward to it." We climbed back into the Rover. Before I buckled in, I leaned forward. "Gregg," I said quietly. "I apologize for my outburst. I didn't mean to affect you like that." Gregg let his breath out in a puff and looked back at me with wide eyes. "It's fine, Alpha," he said quietly. I sat back and growled quietly as the car started up again and Gregg pulled back out onto the highway. Asshole, Tenebris growled. Shut your mouth, mutt.
