Chapter One: Just another c**k and bull story! "Cleavage? Check! Short plaid skirt? Check! High-rise socks? Check!" I thought out loud as I checked my reflection in the mirror. It was Halloween today and as usual, our school was throwing a party. Being a senior this year meant that more fun was guaranteed. Seniors always dominated the inferior in the past years, and seeing as I was basically the queen B of the school it meant I was going to be boss. I had chosen to dress like the boss of all vampire queens after going through many options and ultimately deciding that it was the only option that would allow me to be as sexy as I desired to be. "Curl my hair then, Steph." I handed my best friend a curling iron so she could complete my look. "You are definitely going to be one of the sexiest girls at that party, Becca." Steph remarked while making turns of my golden blonde hair on the iron's rod. Unlike me, my best friend did not care much about dressing to kill. She had opted for a long, black cloak and plastic scythe so accessorize, dressing like none other than the grim reaper. A bit anticlimactic if we were judging based of how I had dressed but I had to admit, she had dressed better for the occasion. "One of?" I turned to look at her, almost burning my face with the hot metal. "My bad, you will be the sexiest girl that school has ever seen!" She corrected. "Good! Because that is exactly what I am hoping for, and it is what should happen!" I backed down and turned back to the mirror of my dressing table, allowing Steph better access to my hair again. "Uhmm..aren't you scared of the Hallowen abductor? You know, every year at this party, a senior girl always goes missing and never comes back." Steph suddenly brought up the question, obviously worried about either one of us going missing. I just knew from the beginning that this day would not pass without Steph pestering me about the 'Halloween abductor" What a ridiculous name for a ridiculous lie! The Halloween abductor was an invented theory, a c**k and bull story that everyone enjoyed uttering after it conveniently happened for three consecutive years that a girl from the senior group disappeared without a trace on the night of the Halloween party. It was ridiculous really and I didn't believe a word of it. "Come on Steph, you seriously can't be worried about that myth. This is our last year and that should be the last thing on your mind." I pleaded for her to be realistic for once but she didn't seem to budge. "But that's exactly why we should be worried, Becca. We are seniors and that means we are targets. None of the girls that went missing have been found and that could be one of us this year. We could join Alissa, Whitney and Shayla in the ditch they are probably lying in.." She continued with her paranoia, her voice coming out with a shitload of concern as she finished with my hair. "I have to say, I am surprised you still remember all their names!" I remarked as I fixed my hair and smiled at the result. "Nobody ever mentioned blonde vampire queens not existing!" I joked with a smug smile and heard Steph's sigh follow. Her hands were wiping away invisible sweat from her forehead with how stressed she had herself. "You don't know for sure that they never showed up. They were all probably too drunk to even know where they were going. Besides, we were never kept posted on their whereabouts or investigation after a month of the initial shock so who are we to assume they are still missing?" I finally addressed this "huge" concern and hardly eased her anxiousness. I was damned if I was going to allow a stupid myth to ruin what could potentially be the best night of my high school life, maybe Steph had different plans for this night but I had every intention of enjoying myself. "Well, I brought pepper spray and I have my parents on emergency dial just in case anything happens." "Suit yourself Steph, nothing is going to make this night any less fun than it's supposed to be. Matt is finally beginning to budge and I think he's ready to let go of that ugly, redhead nerd girlfriend of his that doesn't deserve him so I can't be stressed today. Stress has never made anyone look pretty." I exclaimed, standing up from the chair I was seated on. Steph just shook her head in response, her eyes displaying the stark fear. I can't believe she was this stressed out by something that has never been confirmed while I just could not be bothered at all. Stephanie and I had many differences actually, she was almost completely my total opposite and I knew she was against me snatching Matt from his girlfriend but like the good friend she was, she was supportive of me regardless. Most people wondered how we managed to hold a conversation for even two minutes but Steph and I got along more than a house on fire, her personality just complimented mine so well, it just worked. "The party was supposed to start 10 minutes ago, which means it's safe for me, sorry, us to get there fashionably late and steal the whole show." I smiled like the little devil I was and Steph just shook her head again. She didn't care much about making a statement appearance but that didn't mean she would not be by my side, supporting me anyways. ________________________ My six inch platform heels sounded against the ceramic flooring as I walked through the hallway, coming to a halt when I was in front of the events hall. Steph's hand swiftly took a hold of mine before I could even touch the double doors. "Wait." She trailed off, her eyebrows knitted together from all the stress she was putting herself through. "Please...Stephanie Rose Hugges. If this has anything to do with the Halloween abductor, I really don't want to hear it!" I folded my arms over my chest and gave her an analyzing stare. "Well that still has me stressed out but that is not what I want to discuss right now." She sighed deeply before clearing her throat. "Is it really necessary that we go in like this, why can't we just use the front door like everybody else?" Is that what it was? She does not want to make a good entrance with me? "Oh, come on honey!" I held her hand and intertwined our fingers before squeezing it. "You'll be fine, just stay by my side!" I instructed before pushing the doors wide open. I assumed Steph's anxiety was shooting through the roof as the loud bang had everyone turning around and focusing their gazes on me and Steph. I glimpsed at the crowd and decorations before waltzing into the hall with my best friend trying to turn into my shadow. "Steph!" I swerved my body to the side to take away her opportunity of using me as a shield. "You can't hide behind me when the Halloween abductor comes, you know? If you are the target, you are the one going with him." I scared her and got her to loosen up after feeding her a few shots of tequila. Bringing alcohol into the party was obviously against the school rules but after years of confiscating what they could, even the authorities had grown to accept that teenagers would always be teenagers and they knew better than any other age group that rules were made to be broken. I spotted Matt from a few feet away, standing tall and well built by the bar as he slipped on his cocktail. Our eyes met and I pulled out one of my lecherous smiles and winked at him. I could see him bowing his head as he pretended to miss the gestures I was making. Matt was hot, no kidding. He had transferred to my school just two months ago but he already had all the girls drooling over him and the boys extremely jealous. There was one problem though, one that left every skirt wearer frustrated. Matt had his childhood sweetheart nerd, Reane and whatever they had kept him glued to her. Now, I was far from being desperate for a boy. As a matter of fact, I could wake up with a new boyfriend each day if I lowered my standards but that was something I could never do. My thrill was with getting him to succumb to my seduction. Call me inconsiderate or a slut but I had made it a mission to get him to leave her before we graduated and seeing as she was nowhere to be seen, I assumed my plans were coming together just fine. I chugged one more shot glass before adjusting my cropped blouse. I attempted to walk towards him but something in the atmosphere was weighing me down, my head felt heavier than it does even when I am fully out of this world drunk and keeping balance was hard. "Jeez Becca, you did not even drink that much!" I murmured to myself before deciding to pay a little visit to the ladies' room. Maybe that was all I needed to freshen up. By the time I made it to the bathroom, my head was spinning and my feet were threatening to have me falling on the nasty floor. I stared at my reflection and it had all gone blurry. My knees weakened and my heels sent me to the ground before my eyes shut and it all went dark.
