Blurb

"Why bully the prettiest girl in class? C'mon guys, she's a new student," Jamal's deep honey voice vibrated sonically when he sat with her. He placed his hand on her shoulder as if to console her. Melissa hibernated and kept flinching...

"Jamal, look! She is a song writer." Ryan uttered and gave him her notebook.

Jamal did not even bother to glance through it.

"Listen Melissa, this is what we're going to do. You will meet me at the green room in the music hall tomorrow. Then you'll get your song book back, but if you fail to show up, we are going to keep hurting you till you graduate..." He then glanced at her earpiece on the floor, "I am sorry about your earpiece. I will get you a new headset tomorrow. Just don't fail to show up tomorrow or you'll regret coming to this school for the rest of your life. No one can save you from me."

The bullied Melissa is on the rise from the ashes of ridicule, a broken home and a turbulent romantic life to become the face of Grammy in a singing competition in highschool. The stage is set for a greater singer in person of Melissa Hernandez to emerge. Will she be courageous enough to pursue her dream in a ruthless environment and to give love a chance? Find out in this trailblazing story. The legend of Melissa is about to begin and her mysterious dad, David Hernandez, is set to pitch it with her.

Homeless
...Funeral Ground... Melissa just turned sixteen before Alex's death. She is super gorgeous teenager with fair skin, glittering dark eyes and a long brunette hair about her shoulder level. "You could have lived to see me graduate, dad." Melissa, mumbled distraughtly. Her mom had to place her hand on her shoulder when she noticed she was drooping. Sniffling with a contorted face, Jennifer wished to stop the priest from speaking at length because she wanted to take off her black dress. She disliked most attendees with believes that they were pretending to grieve for her loss when they showed no willingness to help when her husband was in the hospital. "Mrs. Jennifer, I hope you find strength to move on." The priest comforted and placed his right hand on her shoulder. "Thanks." She intoned inaudibly, staring off. The moment he left, Jennifer tapped her daughter, "C'mon Melissa, we have to go now. We can't raise him back to life." "But we can spend a little more time with him!" Melissa sobbed and with throbbing veins in neck she lifted her face and glared at her mother. Her mom knew the reason she spoke rudely was because she was grieving. So she said quietly, "Alright, you can sleep with him in this grave and meet me at home by sunrise. I know you aren't that blind to see it is getting late?" "Mom, wait up! I am right behind you and am sorry." She apologized. Jennifer still felt Alex's absence after a week, though she was not in love with him. She became uncomfortable seeing Melissa leave for school everyday wretched with grief. She decided she was going to do what she has for long refused to do. She searched for the e-mail and with a sigh of relief, the corners of her eyes crinkled when she found that one email which has his house address attached. Going through it, she prevented her tears from rolling and lifted her face quickly because Melissa was already coming out of her room. "Melissa, I don't think you'll be attending school today. Please shut the door and come over. I need to tell you something." "Mom, whatever you have to tell me has to wait. I am running late for school you know!" She scowled. "I never raised you to be stiff-necked, Melissa, did I?!" She pressed her lips and said, "We do not have to continue living this way. We don't even have money to pay your school fees and you know that our house rent has not been paid." "I told the principal already and he said he will give me until next year because he understands and he wouldn't want to see me drop out of school. Mom, I have friends waiting for me at the bus station." "They may have to leave without you today. And please don't make this more difficult for me before I change my mind." She sounded stressed out. With soothing gestures of interest, Melissa shut the door and walked towards her mom... "Change your mind about what, Mom?" She asked sympathetically, leaving her school bag on the floor and taking her seat the minute she realized something wasn't right and it was written all over her mom's face. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK! "Are you expecting a friend?" Her mom asked her immediately. "No mom, I just told you they are waiting at the boss station." She grunted. "Wait here," she said to her and went to open the door. "Hansen!" Jennifer's eyes widened. "Surprised huh?! Pay your rent but you have decided not to!" He pushed her away from the door with a wide stance and walked in with three other men. Jennifer fell and dashed her back against the arm of a chair. "Sir, what are you doing?" Melissa cried. "I am throwing your things out of my house you fool!" Rising up in pains, Jennifer begged, "p-please Hansen, give me only a week more!" "I am not giving you a single hour, your poverty-stricken husband is dead with so much debts! Look how much I have lost and I know you won't be able to pay up even if I give you forever!" He ranted and looked at his boys "what are you all waiting for? Started throwing their things out!" "You can't do this to my mom, sir!" Melissa attacked him but he overpowered her and pulled her away, grabbing firmly her right arm. "You know I have made part payments, you don't have the right to do this." Jennifer whimpered as she drew closer. He backhanded her when she wasn't expecting and it hurt so bad she held her left cheek and watched him drag Melissa out of the house. "Sir, we are done. There isn't much property in this house." "What do you expect of them? They are poor." He hissed. "You slapped me, Hansen and you're hurting my daughter?" Jennifer cried when he pushed Melissa to the ground and spit on her. She was gifted another backhand immediately, her left cheek turned red and started to swell, she staggered backwards and did not approach him again. He locked the door and left with the others. Sobbing, Melissa drew closer to her mother, "mom! Don't cry. Let us just think of a way out." "There is no other way, Melissa, none!" She cried bowing her head in shame and in tears. After a while of silence, she mumbled "the only way out is to pay David Hernandez a visit." "And who could that be?" Melissa asked because that was her first time hearing the name. "He is one of the wealthiest man in this country. He used to be a popular figure but not anymore." "No, mom. Bad idea. We don't have to go begging again. I am tired of doing that, plus I don't even know this person you are talking about." Melissa shook her head in disapproval. "We can't live in the streets and definitely not under a bridge, Melissa. And no, I do not think we are going there to beg for money this time." "For a room I guess." Melissa scoffed. "No." "Then what?" "He is the father of your half-sister. You have a half-sister." Melissa froze and stared with her eyes wide open and her eyebrows raised.
