Despicable Daughter

"Mom?! Were you a prostitute?" "No, no, that is definitely not it," Jennifer brightened and continued while grabbing her daughters hands, "all I am saying is that she is your elder sister and I had her before settling with your dad, Alex" "So I have a half-sister out there and you're just telling me about it now? Did my dad know about it before he died?!" "No, I never told Alex about it." Jennifer replied feeling guilty. "Well, as much as I wish to see my half-sister, I sincerely suggest we stay away rather than be a burden to a man who may never even welcome us." "That will not be a problem to David Hernandez. I have known him for a while now. Please let's give it a try. You do not want our neighbors mocking us when they return from their daily activities." Melissa thought about it for a while and said, "you better be right about this." Melissa's face remained scrunched-up as they journeyed from Mexico to Atherton, California, but she brightened up when the address her mom traced brought them to a very beautiful mansion. The taxi driver helped offload their belongings. "I hope this is the right location." Jennifer muttered before pressing the button on the gate hoping to see someone show up. Melissa wondered if anyone would ever come forward because the distance between the mansion and the gate where they stood was vast. They could see an artificial spring at the center as well, with a sculpted statue in the middle. [Car horns] They instantly turned to notice a car approaching them and when it slowly stopped at the gate, the glass wind down and a teenager girl who was driving asked, "Are you two lost?" Jennifer stuttering replied, "ummm, no, yeah, no. Uhm, we are looking for David Hernandez. I believe this is where he lives?" "Yes, this is where he lives and I am his daughter. But then, I seriously think you two are lost because we do not accept visitors. So kindly move your bags out of the way or I'll have to run them over." Her utterance was hasty and disrespectfully rude. Melissa immediately reached for her neck and strangled her before she could even blink her eyes, but nope! That was only in Melissa's imagination. "Melissa, please help me move these bags out of the way." Jennifer called for her help. Melissa could not believe that her mom literally did nothing to this little girl who just disrespected her simply because they are standing in front of her father's gate. The girl brought her left hand slightly out the window and pressed a remote control she held causing the gate to roll open before driving in, and when she did, the gate closed up again. "Mom, seriously we have to go back home. Did you hear that girl?! And if I heard correctly, then she is supposed to be the half-sister you told me about." Melissa sputtered with nearly uncontrollable anger. "You have to calm down, Melissa. There are reasons we should ignore her." Jennifer averred and went poker faced. "What reasons, mom?" "First she is a teenager, she has lived her life with only her dad and without a mom, she lacks love and ways to express herself, plus I really believe most rich children are arrogant and disrespectful." Jennifer said and went to sit somewhere close to the gate. "Really? Are you going to sit here and hope she changes her mind?" "Sit down, Melissa. She is not the one I am here to see. I am waiting for her dad and I believe David will show up soon because she will definitely go in and tell him about some strangers at the gate. That's what arrogant children do. They are predictable, so sit with me." Jennifer gave a lasting utterance and tapped the rectangular stone enough to contain the two of them. "God knows I have reached the limit of my tolerance and I am doing this because of you." Melissa sputtered. "It's not like we have other options. We can't go back because there's no money left, not even in my purse. It's past 6:00 p.m. already. Let us stay positive, besides this is an estate, there are no passerbys, not even a car has been seen since we arrived here except hers." She said and drew her to rest her head on her bossom. "I never got to say goodbye to my friends." Melissa whispered and was a little relaxed and bored. Three hours later a car drove towards the gate and the headlights that shone on Jennifer and Melissa woke them up, but before their blurred visions could be corrected, a well articulating tall figure of a handsome man in his early forties came out of the car and stood right in front of them and was pretty eager to touch them. "Don't you dare put your hands on my mom or you'll have me to deal with!" Melissa scolded and stroke his fingers away. "Okay, okay. That's not what I was expecting. Please, I am sorry for keeping you two out here at this time. I never knew you were..." His voice sounded familiar to Jennifer though she was still unable to see his face clearly due to the headlight that stayed on. "It's okay, Melissa. I think this man means no harm." Jennifer pulled her daughter back and kept trying to identify who was speaking. "...I never knew you'd come today, ummm... How long have you two been here? Could you at least give me a hug Jennifer? I've not had you in my arms like forever." His tone switched from normal to being sonically desirous... "David, is that you?!" Jennifer's tone also changed, she sounded like a baby sobbing from lack of motherly care. "Yes, It is." He muttered and turned his neck around speaking to someone else who happens to be his driver "Vincent, get down and put these bags in the trunk, hurry up." And immediately he embraced Jennifer. Melissa had to watch until she was fed up and mumbled. "I've seen enough in one night already. Can we go in now?" She sighed with arms folded. "Yeah, yeah, ahmm..." David Hernandez sniffled and with kind gestures he said "please get in the car let us go in. You're home now." Melissa sighed and dragged her feet into the car. David showed them a room for the night and served them supper before calling it a night. All that kept going on in Melissa's head the entire time was, ... where is his daughter and why didn't she show up to welcome him?... However, when she showed up in the morning and saw Melissa and her mom preparing and setting up the table for breakfast, she started out using words that pissed Melissa off, "What are you two doing here and who the hell let beggarly objects of disappointment through the gate of my house?"
