New Beginnings

Mom and Dad decided to personally drive me up to the campus. Mom wanted to fly, but dad preferred to drive. I used the time to catch up on some sleep. I spent much of the night packing and talking with Lexy. I promised her to come to visit on vacation and call her every night. As we pulled into the school, I looked out the window of the place I would soon call home. The Campus was huge. Palm trees lined the courtyard, obscuring the buildings and providing a little shade for the students who sat on benches or picnicked on the grass. Though the school was not in session for the summer, Students seemed to use the grounds still. “There’s a spot right there,” My mother pointed to an open spot in the parking light across from the main Courtyard. “You always find the good ones, Louise,” My dad winked at my mom and I rolled my eyes at them. My parents still acted like teenagers in love. My friends called it cute, but they didn’t have to live with them. They used pet names for each other often and curled up on the couch watching scary movies together. I once came downstairs horrified to see my dad in his boxers chasing my mother around the house as she giggled and laughed. “That’s why you keep me around,” she blew him a kiss. “Among many other things Bunny,” he said. There was a cute name he called her often. “Dad, please don’t call mom Bunny in front of these people,” I groaned. “Were just in love dear,” My mother turned around to face me in the car, her lips turned down in a mock pout. “She’ll understand one day,” Dad said. “I doubt it,” I opened my car door, thankful dad finally parked. “Listen, this is your Senior year kid. You need to relax and enjoy yourself. You only live once. Education is important, and it’s why we agreed to let you come here, but so is social life,” My dad wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a hug. I know he meant well, and I hugged him back, “I know dad, and thank you,” Thankfully, the walk up to the doors was in silence. I think we were too busy taking in everything around us. The main area of campus had one extensive building that seemed to connect to several other buildings around it. Across from the Courtyard stood a tall building by itself. If I had to guess I would say the building is at least ten floors high. As we neared, the double doors of the main connected building a guy about my age or a little older approached us. “Hello, I’m Johnny Laurent, and I will be Lina’s guide,” as the man stuck his hands out to greet my parents I took him in. He was tall, and he wore his dark hair short on the sides and long on top. To say he was gorgeous is an understatement. He reached for my hand, bringing me back to reality. I wiped the sweat off my palm on my pants, then shook his hand. “You must be Lina,” He smiled and for a moment I felt mesmerized by him. It reminded me of the cheesy romance movies my mother watched. I definitely think his smile is seductive. “Lina honey, are you okay?” My mother interrupted my thoughts. I realize that I stood here shaking his hands, looking like a moron, not even speaking to him. “Yes, sorry. I was thinking about how this reminded me of a movie,” I waved my hand around the hallway, “Nice to meet you,” “What movie would that be,” The sound of his voice makes my heart race. Get yourself together, girl. You just met this guy! “It was just a large campus in a movie,” I shrugged my shoulders. No way was I going, to tell the truth. I looked down realizing he still had a hold of my hand and I quickly pulled it back from him. What has gotten over me? This is not usual for me. It’s not like I’ve never seen a hot guy before. There are plenty back in Florida. It’s the home of spring breakers, hot guys flocked there every year. “Let’s start that tour,” Johnny said. Happily, anything to get past the embarrassment of what just happened. As I followed behind Johnny, I couldn’t help but admire the way his jeans fit just right over his ass. Maybe coming to this school was a bad idea after all. A few hours later, mom and dad decided they should leave. They had plans to do some sightseeing in New Orleans while they were here. “I wish you could come to see the Saint Lous Cathedral with us,” Mom kissed my cheek and pulled me into a hug. “I’m sure she will have plenty of time to see New Orleans,” Dad took out his wallet and pulled out a small stack of bills. “Here’s some cash in case you need it for anything. You also have a bank card. We will transfer some spending money monthly for you,” “Thanks, Dad,” I was grateful he gave me money even though I still had my savings from last Summer of working at the Gold Club,” “Don’t forget to decorate your dorm room, honey,” My mom said. “Are you sure you don’t want to come with us to the Cathedral?” “I’m living here now. I’m sure I will see it eventually,” I stuffed the stack of twenty-dollar bills in my purse and zipped it up. I’d have to find a better place for it once I got settled. “It has fascinated you since you were a child,” My mom said. “Louise let her get settled in and explore with friends,” Dad took mom’s hand in hers and she smiled. He always knew how to reason with her. “I’ll take her. We’ll go tomorrow,” Johnny flashed my mother that gorgeous smile of his, and I knew she would relent. “It’s settled then, send me pictures baby,” My mother pulled me into a hug one more time before dad pulled her away, leaving me alone with Johnny. “You don’t have to,” I said. “I want to. Now let’s go see your dorm. I have the perfect one for you. I’ll have your luggage sent up later,” he reached for my hands and my stomach did a flip-flop as our fingers intertwined. For some reason, I didn’t let go.
