CHAPTER 1 - THE AWAKENING

1558 Words
Around 17 years ago, chaos was rampant in the castle. The queen had her baby girl born with the prophesied mark from ages ago. Fear struck the King and Queen when the vampire king tried to kill their new daughter. The king ordered his beta, who was the daughter of his previous beta, to take his daughter and hide her and not to even let them know where she was. A prophesy was made a long time ago about the Crowned White Wolf that would bring down the evil Vampire king. They had to protect their daughter at all costs. Present Day - As I sit in bed, I can hear the silence in the house. I bent my head down in my hands, thumbing my fingers through my hair. Stress has completely consumed me. I will graduate from high school soon, and I am so different from anyone else here. I am certain they would fear me if they knew what I was. And to be honest, I don't even know what I am. A life-changing event happened to me at 13. My life was anything but ordinary. As a kid, I remember pitching a tent in my backyard. My love of the outdoors makes me want to explore forests and wilderness. Outside in my tent, I'd sleep. It was weird at first, but then my parents realized I'm just outdoorsy. It was a crescent moon when I went out into the night. While I was lying in my sleeping bag, I read Nancy Drew 99 steps. There's nothing I like better than mystery stories. When I was reading with my cell phone as a nightlight, I noticed something was off. Then I flinched and tried to get up, but I just fell back onto the bed. I am worried about something. Is there something wrong with me? Why are my bones breaking like crazy? Several minutes later, the burning stops and the pain goes away. My muscles probably got strained by moving them incorrectly or working too hard in gym class. There's something weird about me when I lay down. As much as I am who I am, I'm not who I am. I've got a gorgeous white and gold fur covering. On the right side of my white fur, I have a gold crown patch. Honestly, I'm freaking out. Despite my beautiful fur, I don't care about it. It's because I'm a freaking wolf, so I've got claws, ears, and can't speak and normally. My only sound is a howl that almost sounds musical. Jumping the fence in the backyard, I ran past the graveyard with antiquated headstones, and into the woods. In the midst of a pile of fallen leaves, I pause, unable to avoid slamming into a fallen log. I'm confused and sore after slipping into this log with the brown and gold fallen leaves. In the next breath, the voice said, "I'm your wolf, but we're different in spirit." Mentally, I said, "Your wolf is me." It's official, I'm crazy now. Despite my crazy nature, let's pretend I'm not. Would you mind telling me what your name is?” A soft voice replied, "I'm KiKi (Kee Kee) and we're werewolves. There's no human more attractive or stronger than us." With a stutter, I ask, “Will I stay this way, or will I ever be human again?” Totally unprepared, I asked KiKi. What's the best way to prepare to transform into a wolf? KiKi felt like she was hugging me from inside and said, "We're one. Most of the time we're human." “KiKi?” Kiki says, "Yes." How many other beings are there like us? The question lingers in Kiki's head. “Are my parents like us, but they didn't tell me?” It's my first time in this world, so I can't answer your question about your parents. The only way I'll know for sure is to smell them. From the day you were born, I've been there for you. Wolves hibernate until the child reaches puberty." People who have their wolves awaken at a young age (like you) are from Alpha or Royal Wolf lines. It's pretty simple. I just woke up." My memories of that night flood back as I get ready to graduate high school. Since Kiki came into my life, my smell has changed. My heart sank when I heard that. The whole thing saddens me, even in retrospect. It was very important to me to have my parents around. In terms of genetics, they're not my parents. My biological parents can only be pure werewolves, says Kiki. My first thought was, “Why didn't they tell me they adopted me?” There was a lot less Kiki knew than I did. Where we came from or how we ended up with my adoptive parents? It's important for me to know how they adopted me. Are they familiar with my parents? Where do I really come from? I'm not going to reveal my werewolf identity. There's no way I can do it now. I shouldn't be viewed as some horrifying monster from a movie by the people I love. Their preciousness meant so much to me. There was a lot of love and kindness between my parents and me. My parents were so good to me that if I hadn't turned into a wolf, I wouldn't have known I wasn't their child. I must run and clear my head, feeling the night breeze on my fur. Leaving the house, Kiki and I head out. Kiki takes over and barrels over the fence towards the woods, where we sit on that same log that has weathered over time since we first sat here. Shifting back into human form, I realize how many times this has happened. Nobody ever ventures out in the middle of the night into the forest near the graveyard. “Kiki? What will we do? I'm not even allowed to have a boyfriend or friends here at my house. We get angry and we become extremely violent. I don't want to harm anyone, although I'm afraid of leaving my parents.” Kiki huffs. “Well, we shouldn't be kissing boys, anyway. That is why I brought out my claws. There is a special wolf out there for us. It will force us to find others like us.” “Kiki, I love my parents so much, but I am still trying to figure out who I am. Where I came from before. My parents need to hear what I am saying and how I feel. It will be tomorrow after school.” I proclaimed. I didn't want to offend them, but I needed to know. Early the next morning, the sun shines through the windowpane as I cover my eyes and toss to the side facing the other way. I hear my mother open the door. “Come on, young lady, get up! You need to get ready for school and still have time to eat first. Come on, this is the last few months of high school – enjoy it. Now get out of bed!” I groaned and threw my legs over the side of the bed. My mother turns and heads out of the room as soon as she knows I am getting ready. I looked through my closet and just moaned. I need new clothes; I am so bored with the clothes I have right now. Have you ever looked in the fridge and there was lots of food there, yet you felt like there wasn't anything to eat? That is how I feel looking into my closet today. I love my parents so much, but I'm still figuring out who I am. Here's where I came from before. I want my parents to hear what I'm saying and how I feel. The plan is to do it after school tomorrow," I said. Despite not wanting to offend them, I needed to know. In the morning, when the sun shines through the window, I cover my eyes and toss. I think my mom just opened the door. Come on, young lady, you got to get up! Getting ready for school and eating is the first thing you should do. It's the last couple of months of high school, so let's enjoy it. Let's get up! I groan and throw my legs over. Once she realizes I'm getting ready, she turns and walks out. Looking through my closet makes me moan. I need new clothes; I am so bored with the clothes I have right now. Have you ever looked in the fridge and felt like there wasn't anything to eat despite having lots of food? Seeing my closet today makes me feel like that. Today is so sunny and beautiful. There's still a little nip in the air. There's nothing I want to wear more than something that screams spring. I look at my baby pink sweater hanging off one shoulder and think, "Perfect". My white jeans and pink and white sketchers complete the look. I'm sitting in front of my vanity mirror. Argh, my hair! How am I goanna handle this? My hair is light blonde, but it leans more towards blonde, so I just tie it up in a ponytail and leave a few strands out. Cuteness
