Mates

Max POV        The machines are blaring, snapping me from my sleep. I panicked as I looked around, trying to figure out what was going on. I knew before I even looked at her. The nurse looked sadly at me as tears welled in her eyes, "She was such a fighter," "No, no, go get help now!" Olivia lay lifeless in my arms. I couldn't move; I didn't want to move her, "I said to get help now!" I yelled in my Alpha command. The nurse jumped back at the sound of my voice but obeyed as she ran out the door. "Olivia, baby, you can't leave me now. I just found you, please don't go,"  I kissed her softly on her cheek. It's still warm. They can save her. They have to. I can't lose her. She is gone My wolf is wrong. She couldn't be. I sat up, cradling her in my arms as I rocked back and forth. One look at my beautiful mate and I knew it was true. I lost her, and deep down, I felt a part of me die inside. Elsewhere...... Miracle POV I packed up my laptop and shoved a twenty on the table. That would cover the bill and her tip. I needed to get out of here. Carla stood up from rolling her silverware and headed my way, "I left money on the table," I told her before rushing out the door. "Slow down," Kyle laughed as he speed-walked to catch up to me. My mother always said I walk too fast. Even for a tall guy like him, I am a fast walker, especially if I'm trying to get away. I Stopped in front of him, catching my breath, "You're crazy, you know that," "No, and you know I'm telling the truth," he countered, his eyes penetrating mine. He has gorgeous eyes. "No, I don't, "I began speed walking again. s**t, I couldn't let this guy know where I lived. With lightning-fast speed, he was in front of me like a blur. "How did you do that?" I asked him. "Easy, baby. I can do lots of things," he winked. "Not interested," I lied. I am interested if he didn't creep me out with his stalking weirdness. "Suit yourself but back to your father. Would you like to meet him?' he stared at me, his eyes drilling into my soul. "I thought you said you knew him years ago," I challenged, not sure I believed him. My mother has no reason to lie to me about him. She always gets sad when talking about my father. "Yea, it's taken me a few years to locate you. I know how to find him though, once I do, and I have," he said. I readjusted the strap on my laptop bag as I contemplated what he said. I could always catch him on fire if he's lying. A smile broke out on my face just thinking about it, but I quickly pushed the thoughts out of my mind. How awful of me to think about burning someone to death. I didn't need this s**t, not now and not ever. I was tired of starting over. I didn't care if he looked like an Adonis or not. He was a stranger danger, and I needed to get away.  "I'm going to call the police if you don't stop stalking me, and If I see you again, I won't hesitate to watch you burn," I whispered in his ears and walked away. I turned around and flashed him a smile as I gathered a small fireball in my hands for showmanship so that he knows I mean business. Once I was sure he didn't follow, I walked back around the block and into my apartment, laying my computer bag on the floor. I'm glad I was able to produce a small fireball even if I knew it was wrong. I couldn't help but wonder if it was true, though. Am I a demon? Is that why I had these powers.  I sat down, and I thought over everything all the times we had to skip town, the life my mother suffered. Did she know? I did the only thing I could; I called my mother. "Hello honey, is everything okay," she answered on the second ring. "Yea, mom. I was just thinking about daddy, you know," "Oh honey, I wish he was here too," she sighed. I didn't understand that from her since she is married again. I didn't begrudge her of that she deserved to be happy. Mom always seems too long for my father, though, even after all these years. I really think if she knew something or thought he was alive, she would go to the ends of the earth to be with him. I still need to ask, though. I'm just going to spit it out," Mom, I ran into a man who says he knows him and he knew about my abilities,"  There was a long pause on the other end of the line, and then," I'm coming over now, don't answer to anybody but me. Do you understand?" she asked. Her voice is low and stern, and I held my breath in realization. I hung up the phone because I knew my mother had lied to me all these years. My eyes burned as tears rolled down my face. My father was a demon or is a demon. I wasn't even sure. Was he alive, or was he not? So much confusion. I could feel it well up inside of me, trying to escape. I rocked back and forth, trying to hold it in, but it consumed me. The curtains, the couch, and even my new laptop are ablaze. There is no turning back now. The flames surround me, and for the first time in years, I feel I am losing control again.  I remember that I don't live in this building alone, though, as I try to reign in the fire and keep it in this room. I managed to dim the blaze as best I could, but it will help to keep the others safe. I hear pounding on my door, and I am sure it's either a concerned neighbor or my mother. I don't know how to get out of this one. I took one last look at my apartment before I climbed out the window.
