Chapter 2

853 Words
Barrett's POV I had been stewing in my own thoughts for the last three days since the conversation I had with my mom. As I sit in my office looking at all the papers that need to be signed or sent back to be denied, I just can't focus. Sighing, I sat back, stood up and grabbed a drink from the bar cart. Now, regular alcohol cannot get us drunk, but the taste is nice and it gives us the slightest buzz. Knock, knock. "Come in", I called. In walked Sam and Holden, my beta and gamma. "Still not getting much done, huh"? Sam said, "Yeah dude, this funk you have been in is just not working for you", Holden returned. "I know, but I just cant stop thinking about how maybe I do need my mate at my side", "ya think" came Shaw, "I've only been saying that for the last four years, I have given you your time to have fun but we need Mate". "Shut up Shaw, I just need to go out and do something to get out and have some fun to clear my head". "Shaw giving you s**t again ha" Holden laughed. Normally, I would never allow people to talk to me in any way of disrespect. I believe that to get respect, you earn it. Now my beta Sam has been my best friend since day one. We were born only a month apart. He is also my polar opposite. He stands at 5'10 with dirty blonde hair, emerald green eyes, olive-tan skin, and a complete puddle when it comes to his mate. He wanted to find his mate the moment he got his wolf, and he did. She was part of our pack, a warriors' daughter. Her name is Heather and she's on the shorter side. However, she is a beast. She has also trained since the day she was able to run. Even at full term 5 months pregnant, luckily, us wolves have shorter pregnancies, she was out training. It comes in handy being the beta female, since right now she actually helps out my mom with most of the event planning and other Luna duties, as I don't have a mate, or at least don't want one. Holden, on the other hand, is my little brother. We are a year and a half apart. Being an alpha son, he is also tall, muscular, strong and super fast, he just lacks blue hair, he has got our mom's blonde hair and blue eyes as well. Oh, did I forget to mention I have blue hair? It's an alpha thing for this pack. Every first born male to be alpha is born with dark blue hair. Every. Single. One. Our wolves are not like most alphas either. Most alphas are midnight black, ours are midnight blue, almost to match our hair but a bit darker. "Lets hit the town today then, I mean its Friday, start the weekend right and clear your mind", Holden speaks up. " I don't know if that's such a good idea", Sam says. "Why, you scared of your little mate being mad," Holden retorts in a teasing tone. "If anyone is to be scared of me its to be you little wolf" in walked Heather saying. Heather and Holden banter like brother and sister, which is nice because we think of Sam as another brother anyway, so we were happy to gain a "sister". Holden sticks his tongue out and Heather does as well. Heather is a very beautiful woman. She has long curly brown hair, deep brown eyes and tanned skin. " I think it would be good for Barrett to get out and clear his mind, but with Holden we know trouble will follow", Heather teases. "Hey, I resent that" Holden shoots back. Everyone laughs. " Which is why I would like to come, if that is okay with alpha here, plus I need some mommy time, Sawyer has been using his walking skills to drive me mad!" Heather huffed and sat down, "I already asked Mikayla if she would watch him tonight since shes already 3 months along and it will get her prepared for the baby to arrive, and she said she was fine with it as long as Holden doesn't come home with another busted nose". " Im fine with that Heather you can come too, besides you are the one to keep Holden in check anyway" I state, Shaw started wagging and going in circles in my head, " will you calm down in there, whats your deal?" "What? Nothing, I'm just happy to be getting out, your stewing is making me all depressed in here." Shaw shoots back. "You good bro? "Holden asks, " Yea Shaw is just going crazy in my head and wagging like a mad dog". They all look at each other with a questioning face, "What?" I ask, "Nothing". They all say in unison, "Okaaay, sure we can totally forget that that was weird" We all laugh and head our separate ways to get ready for the day.
