The Talk...The Walk

1123 Words
"This is it" dad began "the moment you become a man" Yeah I knew it all too well and actually I was looking forward to it, my 18th birthday, where I officially find my mate. Some spend months, years, even centuries before they find their mate. That's why I am hoping that today is the day I find her. "You now have a greater responsibility within the pack. And now that you are of age, we are officially moving back into the Pack house" dad continues. I'm shock but the look on mom's face says she already knows as she nods her head in agreement with Dad's statement. Josh has never known the Pack house. When mom was pregnant with him we had to flee for our secured safety. War had broken out in the region as some rouges tried to over throw the kingdom. My grandfather was the Alpha at that time and sent us away that if anything happened to him there would still be survivors of his bloodline. Now my dad was Alpha he had been going back and forth between houses. "We'll leave today after you boys return from school" Right school. "Bye mom and Dad" I said quickly excusing myself from the table. "And bye to you too" Josh retorts. I give him a knowing smile before exiting the house. I arrive at school nervously stepping out of the car. 'Today's the day!' I say to myself. I step into the hallway of the school and inhale deeply trying to find just the slightest hint that she maybe at this school. There is nothing. I'm disappointed but not discouraged I have a gut feeling that she's here. I step into class looking around, 'not here either' I sigh. Class goes on but the thoughts of what she will look like, what she will smell like, what she will taste like, is enough that by the end of class I have no idea what the teacher said. I'm overwhelmed with anticipation as I make my way to my next class. Still no luck but the day isn't over yet. My thoughts are of her yet again and this continues throughout each class I have for the remainder of the day. Now the school day is over, hope dwindles. I walk slowly out of the class room feeling defeated. Just then I get a whiff of her scent. The hallway is now full of students but I know she in there somewhere. I scan the room. I see Tracy; tall, slender, long golden hair, with a smile of a thousand watts. I continue to look around and spot Stacy; curvy, but not fat, well proportioned, nice plumed pink lips, sassy but sweet. Then there is Kimberly; slim and fit. She's an athlete and wow that body is fit for mate material. I struggle to contain my excitement and I approach the crowd of people. The smell intensifies. I take a long deep breath and I feel like I'm in Paradise surrounded by rainbows and butterflies. This most heavenly scent so intense my wolf can barely contain himself. I walk further into the crowd passing Tracy, but the smell still seems in the distance, I pass where Stacy is resting on the lockers but its still beyond her. I'm almost to the exit where Kimberley stands, but now it seems like I'm walking away from the scent. I turn around to face the crowd behind me. I close my eyes to concentrate. I hear her heartbeat. I slowly open my eyes to the direction of its sound. "No!" I shake my head as I whisper in disbelief. "Why her" I question. I know it's her but as if hoping to be wrong I approach her. The closer I get the stronger and fast her heart beats until I'm standing face to face with her. Instinctively I cast my nose up in disgust as she stares me in the face. But before I can control it "Mine" I growl. My wolf has made it clear, she's the one. She looks startled by my claim. I guess she's thinking she doesn't deserve such good fortune. I mean, just look at her, then look at me. She not even close to my league. If that's what she's thinking she sure is right. She opens her mouth like she's about to speak but I cut her off. "I, Ryder Ajani Jordon, of the Crescent Wolf Pack, reject you." Without another word I turn my back and leave. Allison's POV It had been a rather peaceful day when towards the end of the day my wolf is in a frenzy. 'Hey there Sabrina, what's going on?' Her only reply? 'mate, mate, mate' For males, the wolf bond isn't awoken till the age of 18 but it different for us females. Our wolfs are already awaken, actively waiting for the claim....which can vary in age. Thanks to my wolf I know my mate is at this school but I'll never know who he is until his awakening. From the looks of it however, today may just be the day. Sabrina has started becoming restless. I'm standing by my locker now placing my text books in my bag to head home, when Sabrina's excitement spikes. I can just picture her tail wagging profusely. "OK, clam down girl" I laugh 'mate, mate, mate' is all she squeals Then the scent of 'sugar and spice and everything nice' hits my nostrils. I'm in heaven. The scent slightly fades then returns stronger than before. My heart is racing. By the time I turn around I'm face to face him. Ryder, the most arrogant, self absorbed jerk of the school but there's no denying this mate pull. For a moment I'm lost in thought searching the eyes of his soul. "Mine" he growls lustfully but his face says otherwise. It's as if anger and disgust are written across his forehead. I don't know how well he knows me but if we are meant to be together, I guess it won't hurt to have some form of proper introduction. 'I'll start with my name, simply enough' I thought but before words can escape my lips- "I, Ryder Ajani Jordon, of the Crescent Wolf Pack, reject you" breaks the silence. Then he walks away. I'm speechless. Never in my wildest dreams had I image it playing out this way. Me? A rejected mate? I know it's possible but there's so few case documented on it, that it never occurred to me that one day that could be me. Sabrina whimpers. She's broken, I'm broken. If what they say about being a rejected mate is true, then, I'm sure, I'm as good as dead now.
