Chapter Three

2185 Words
Today was Thursday, Brooke's first official day working for Nathaniel Cashvian. Brooke woke up early to take Luke to preschool. She washed him, dressed him and then took him to preschool. Nathaniel left early in the morning already so when Brooke got back all she had to do was clean Nathaniel's room. The bed was a mess and expensive woman perfume filled the room. Brooke even found lace underwear lying on the floor and she shuddered. She could not believe a grown man with a child could act this way. After cleaning everything out she decided it was time for her to read a book outside in the garden. She never once had this much time left to relax and read a book when she worked at the diner. All she did was work and stress. "Miss Brooke." She looked up when she heard Lucy's voice. "Yes Lucy?" "Would you like something to eat?"  "No thanks Lucy, I'll fetch later once I'm hungry okay?" Brooke said smiling. "Oh no Miss, if you want something, just call and I'll bring something to you." "What, no Lucy I wouldn't allow you to do that, I'll fetch it. My legs are perfectly fine to fetch my own food." Lucy smiled and admiration filled her eye. "You're different Miss." "I am? Oh and please call me Brooke." "Okay Brooke, you are really different from the others, I like it." Brooke could only smile. "Well I'm off to the kitchen." Lucy left her and Brooke decided to continue reading her book called Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. She loved Jane Austen's books and films. She read for a good 30 minutes when she saw another shadow fell over her. She looked up and was met with golden brown eyes of the gardener, Tyler. "Afternoon Miss." He greeted her. She smiled at him. "Oh please call me Brooke; I'm the help just like you and Lucy." "Will do Brooke, I just thought you wanted some company but since your reading a book I'll leave you to it." "Oh no, I'm in need of company, I've grown bored of this book and will read it some other time." He smiled a bright smile showing off his pearly whites before taking a seat next to Brooke. "Pardon my dirty clothes." He said a faint blush covering his cheeks. He had on a denim jump suit that was covered in sand and mud. He wore cap that was dirty as well. "Nonsense, a man who works hard, his clothes is always dirt." Brooke said, laughing. Tyler smiled. "You really do know how to make a man feel better." He said, while taking of his cap and taking a seat next to Brooke. "I aim to please." Brooke find herself at ease with Tyler, she felt like she knew him for ages now. They started talking and he asked her 'bout her life before she came to life here, she only told him about how she left her apartment and that she had work at a diner. She left about the part about her awful mother. She also told him about Cara. Suddenly he had a sad look in her eyes. "Are you okay Tyler?" She asked him. "Yes, it's just I really miss my fiancé, the way you talk reminds me of her." He said with a sad smile. "Where is she?" Brooke asked, genuinely interested. "She went back to her hometown, Mexico. Her father does not approve of her being engaged to an American and she went back in hopes of changing his mind. Her parents', especially her dad's approval, means a lot to her." Brooke's heart ached for him. The pain evident on his face was enough to show how much her really loved this girl. "Why don't you tell me what her name is and how she is like?" Brooke suggested in hopes to make him lighten up a bit and it seemed to help because he gave her a small smile. "Her name is Marie-Jose; she talks a lot, just like you. Oh and she has the most beautiful laugh and smile. Her personality is amazing and she has a heart of gold." Brooke smiled; she could tell that he was madly in love with her. He had this faraway look in his eyes when he spoke of her. She could only wish that one day a man could feel this way about her. "She sounds like an amazing girl Tyler. And she sure is a lucky girl." Tyler smiled. "Well it was nice talking to you but I have to finish my work now, before Mr Cashvian comes home."  "It was nice talking to you too Tyler." Brooke said giving him a last smile before he walked away. Brooke decided to go inside as well; it was time to fetch Luke. She reached the preschool and saw there was still no sign of Luke. She waited outside the school building for him. A few minutes later, little children came out and Luke was amongst them. The minute spotted Brooke, a bright smile took over his face as her ran straight over to her. Suddenly a woman stopped right in front of her. Luke looked up at her and then grabbed Brooke's hand. "Can I help you with something?" Brooke asked her slowly. "Yes you can give Luke to me, I'm here to pick him up." She said in an icy tone. Brooke looked at her confusedly "I'm sorry, but who are you?" "I'm Emily, Mr Cashvian's assistant, he sent me over to pick Luke up." "He must've forgotten that Luke has a nanny now and it is my duty to pick him up." Brooke said in a very calm tone. "I wanna goo with Brookie." Luke pouted as he glared at Emily. Emily looked at Luke with a forced smile. "Sure Luke whatever you want." She said sweetly before turning on her heels, leaving. During the car ride Luke told Brooke everything about his day. Brooke couldn't help but smile. He was really a precious little boy. He babbled on and on about his friendly teacher and he's two best friend Sammy and Tom. They reached the house in no time and Luke ran inside screaming for Lucy. Brooke had noticed that Luke was very fond of Lucy. It was as if she was the mother figure he had in his life, well more like a grandma figure. "Brooke, I made you and Luke some dinner, since you never came to the kitchen to come fetch early I just decided I'll make you some." Lucy said as she came into view with Luke on one arm. She put Luke down and disappeared into the kitchen only to come back seconds later with two plates of food. Lucy made them Mac and Cheese, Brooke's favourite. Her dad always cooked her that especially the nights her mother, Catherine would spent with her very rich friends and which was almost every night. Until now it still baffled Brooke as to what her father ever saw in her Catherine, because never once has Brooke experienced Catherine being a caring mother or wife. Catherine only used her dad for his money and when he died she thought he would leave her his money but he did not. When Catherine found out she didn't receive a single penny from her late husband, she was beyond furious and that's why she decided to leave with her new boyfriend only two weeks after his funeral. Brooke and Luke enjoyed their meal together. "Brooke, would you read me a story when we done eating?" Luke asked, Mac and Cheese stuffed in his cheeks. Brooke smiled at how adorable he looked and then said. "Luke, you shouldn't talk with your mouth full, okay?" Luke nodded a faint blush covering his cheeks. "But I will read you story and then you'll take a long bath so you can be clean when your daddy comes home from work." ------------------- "Nate, so I heard somewhere that you have a new nanny at home." Aiden said as he barged into Nate's office. "Is she hot?" He asked Nate as he wiggled his eyebrows. Nate rolled his eyes at Aiden's childish behaviour. "Let me guess, my dad told you?"  "No, actually Emily complained about her earlier. She was furiously explaining how she had to drive all the way to Luke's preschool for nothing because his nanny picked him up." Nate stifled a laugh. He actually forgot Brooke was the one to go fetch Luke. "I forgot to tell her that there was a nanny that would pick Luke up." Nate said and Aiden burst out in laughter. "Poor Emily, she was really furious."  "Well I don't feel bad for her at all." Aiden shook his head smiling. "But you still haven't answered my question. Is she hot?" "Yes, and I obviously plan to do something about it. She's no different from the others my dad hired before. They all came off as feisty and acting all hard to get because my dad pays them to be this way, but in a weeks' time they gave in to my very irresistible charms." Nate said confidently, or at least trying to come off as confident because there was actually doubt in his mind. Yesterday, Brooke spoke like she meant every single word when he flirted with her and the way Luke warmed up to her took him completely off guard. Luke is not one to easily warm up to anyone and he never once warmed up to any of the previous nanny's "Well, I'm definitely looking forward to meet her." Aiden said, winking. "We will see about that. Anyway, as much as I would love to chat with you have to finish work and after that I have to go home because I have a son waiting for me at home and a very feisty maid s***h nanny." Nate left for home exactly 7pm. The smell of Lucy's food was the first thing to greet him as it hit his nostrils when he stepped foot in the house. The house was very quiet downstairs and he walked upstairs straight to Luke's room. He really missed his little boy, but Luke was not in the room. Nate frowned, wondering where he might be when suddenly he heard laughter coming from the bathroom. He walked and opened the door silently and what he saw in front of him did more to him than he would have loved to admit. Luke was in the bath with Brooke washing him. She was tickling him and he laughed his head off. He was really enjoying himself. Both of them were covered in soap and foam. It was the first time Nate saw Luke this happy, after coming home from work and unknown feelings erupted inside Nate. He mentally shook his head as if trying to shake these feelings away. "Come on little man it's time to get out, your father is probably already here. I'm sure he would want see you now." Nate heard Brooke say, who was unaware of him standing behind her. "Pwease Brookie can't we play just a little while longer?" Brooke looked like she considered it. Nate knew that feeling all to well. It was really hard to resist Luke but she managed not give in as she shook her head. "Tomorrow we can play again, I'm sure your daddy would want play with you now. Lukey, you spent the entire day with me. We don't want him to get jealous do we?" She whispered the last part in his ear causing and then pinched his nose playfully. Luke giggled loudly as he shook his head and then allowed Brooke to pick up and get him out of the bath. Nate could not help but smile in admiration at Brooke's method to get Luke out of the bath. It was pretty hard to get him out. Not even he could get Luke this quickly out of the bath and when he does Luke never looked this happy to be getting out of the bath. "Daddy!" Nate was pulled out of his thought as Luke screamed when he saw Nate standing there. Brooke looked startled for a little. She was not aware he was even there. "Evening Mr Cashvian. I didn't know you were here." Brooke greeted him in a formal voice as she swept her hand over her face self-consciously. Nate smirked. "I can see that yeah." Brooke ignored him and walked pass him carrying a very hyper active Luke, who was jumping up and down in her arms at the sight of his daddy being here.. "Come daddy!" Luke screamed while motioning with his hand for Nate to follow them. Nate looked as Luke moved wildly around in Brooke's arms, and how easily she handled him. Right there Nate could no longer kid himself. Brooke was definitely not like any one of the other maids his father hired. She was in fact very different. He was not sure whether to happy or upset about it.
