They ganged up around her. All nine girls. They formed a circle around her, hands on their hips and feet in third position. Well all of them except Dora who was leaning against the Barre. She hated conflict. Delphine watched eyes narrowed, fists clenched at her side as the Ballet Captain, Irene, stepped forward breaking the circle. "You're the only newbie who hasn't dobe her initiation," she stated, "therefore you aren't a REAL memeber of this Ballet club," she continued, "and as such your invitation to Polly's Halloween party will be withheld, you will not be added to our group chat and you will not be permitted to color code with us," she finished. "Today's color code is blue," Irene added as if to spite her, the girls surrounding her all had a touch of blue on their outfits, some wore blue jeans, shirts or leggings one girl had even dyed the tips of her hair blue. Even Dora, she was wearing her usual baggy maroon t-shirt but instead of black baggy jeans she had on blue-washed jeans. Delphine couldn't believe she had missed it, she suddenly felt really stupid in her white cargo cutoffs and hot pink t-shirt, she stuck out like a sore thumb. "Of course you will be granted all this privileges WHEN you complete your initiation task," said Irene. "So, Delphine do you accept the challenge?" Irene asked. Delphine took a deep breath, she had no idea what the challenge is and she didn't want to blindly accept it without knowing what she as getting into. "Well? We don't have all day" Irene snapped. She glanced back at Dora as if to ask for her opinion, Dora shrugged, Delphine rolled her eyes. "I-I accept" she said. Irene grinned, "good, your challenge is to head down to Old Man Joe's cabin tonight, you're going to explore the cabin top to bottom, and we'll all be right outside if you decide to chicken out." "And if you do chicken out, you'll be kicked off the team." Delphine gaped at her. Old Man Joe's Cabin?! Was she serious?! The cabin was haunted noone had entered it in years, who knows what creepy sh*t could be lurking in the corner, besides entering would be trespassing gods forbid, Larry the grave-keeper spotted her, she'll be off to the police staring in mere seconds. She opened her mouth to argue at the unfairness but Irene beat her to it, "you're allowed to take three people with you as long as you enter the cabin and explore it without getting caught, we'll be waiting for you at midnight. Good-luck." And with that Irene stepped back into the circle, all nine girls twirled in one fluid synchronized move. Leaving Delphine to ponder on the task at hand, how the hell was she supposed to break and enter, a haunted, off-limits cabin? "I'm so screwed," Delphine groaned, flace flopping on the table. She and Dora were seated at their favorite booth, at Ginny's Cafe, "then you shouldn't have accepted the challenge," Dora replied, nose buried in her phone, she was no doubt reading about some supernatural sh*t or something like that, "but if it makes you feel any better, I'll come with you." She added, "you will?" Delphine echoed, teary eyed, Dora nodded. "Ohmigosh! You're the best Dora!" She squealed leaning forward to crush her friend in a hug. Dora stilled in her embrace, "everyone's watching, you're embarrassing us," Dora whispered. "Oh, right," she said letting go of her friend, she had forgotten that the girl wasn't a big fan of PDA. "What's up guys?" a familiar voice asked. "Hi Alex," Dora mumbled, her cheeks were tinted pink as well as the tips of her ears. That's it Alex! "Alex!" Delphine suddeny called, abruptly jumping up on her feet, slamming her hands on the table. Angry customers turned to glare at her, she smiled sheepishly and sat down, shrinking into her seat. Alex raised a brow as he dropped their milkshake orders in front of them. Delphine quietly sipped her strawberry milkshake. "So what's up with you?" Alex asked, Delphine perked up. "Are you free tonight?" She asked, Alex frowned, "yeah, why?" He replied, "Great! Come to Old Man Joe's Cabin with Dora an I" she said. Alex gaped at her. "Old Man Joe's cabin?" He echoed. She nodded vigorously. "You know that's trespassing" he said, "I know but I would really appreciate it if you come with," she said pouting, doe eyes shining. Alex groaned, he couldn't say no to her when she made that face. "Fine," he agreed. "Yay!!" She squealed, then quickly covered it with a cough, "Besides, we can stream it on your YouTube channel, 'Debunking the haunted cabin," Dora suggested. Alex pursed his lips deep in thought, "like a Collab?" He said, he and Dora both has YouTube channels with a large following where they discussed the supernatural like the supernatural -nerds they were. Dora nodded. "Sounds cool to me, when do we meet?" Alex asked, "Midnight, at the edge of the woods." Dora, Alex and Delphine waited by ,The Ronsith Bookshop, the last member of theor squad, Reese, would be rounding up his shift. Delphine gripped the brown papper bag that held Reese's favorite drink, Chocolate sundae Milkshake. Reese was a tough cookie, if he didn't want to go, he wouldn't go no matter how much convincing she tried. She held her breath as the door was swung open. The bell chimed as Reese stepped out of the library. "Hey Reese," Delphine greeted shoving the package in his hands, he grunted in response, taking out the milkshake, he took a long sip. "What do you want?" He asked, glaring at them suspiciously from the top of his glasses, Delphine snorted, "don't try and deny it, I know you want something, you have that look," he said, Delphine spluttered, "what do you mean that look?!" She all but screeched. Reese rolled his eyes. "You know what forget it, I do want something," she said. "Go to Old Man Joe's Cabin with me." She said "No," he replied. "Why not?" She asked, "one, I don't want to, and two it'll trespassing and I'm rather fond of my clean track record," he said. "Please, Please just come with, if I don't do this I'll be a social outcast," she said "I'm sure you're just exergeratting," "I'm not!" "Well, it's still a no." "Please!" She begged whipping out the puppy eyes, he shook his head. Cold Bastard, she had forgotten her puppy eyes never worked on him. Reese sighed, "i'll go on one condition," he said, "anything!" She replied, "get the girls on your ballet team to stop hounding me for Lee's number it's annoying," he said, Lee was his older brother and the Deputy Sheriff at only 22, he was the most eligible bachelor in Ceford Valley. "You go it!" She said. "Good, now, where are we meeting?" He asked, "edge of the woods midnight."
