CHAPTER TWO: MOTHER'S CRISIS

487 Words
"Mom! Mom! Where is she?" Evalina frantically asked her siblings as she burst into their home. "She went to her room a while ago," Jason replied. Without hesitation, Evalina rushed to her mom's room, only to find her lying helplessly on the floor. With a surge of adrenaline, Evalina quickly raised her mother up and began to think of what to do. She knew she needed help, so she quickly called Leo, a trusted friend. Meanwhile, Jason had already arrived home, where he was welcomed by his younger sister, Diana. He recounted the events of his encounter with Evalina earlier, and Diana felt sorry for her. "I will make sure I look for her after tomorrow's reopening," Jason assured Diana as they ascended the stairs. "But I thought you said you didn't see her face," Diana questioned, clutching onto Jason. "I didn't, but the way she pats her neck ensures a mark is there, which will make it easier for me to identify her," Jason explained, coming to a halt. "So, are you saying you're going to check every girl's neck in the city? Is she that famous?" Diana retorted in disbelief. "No, she's just a middle-class girl," Jason replied, causing Diana to gasp in surprise. Meanwhile, Leo had arrived with his dad's car and taken Evalina's mom to the nearest clinic. The doctor conducted a check-up and delivered grave news: Evalina's mom would need surgery within the next two weeks due to her worsening condition. Overwhelmed with emotion, Evalina pleaded for medication to alleviate her mother's suffering temporarily. "Evalina, let's go. Everything will be okay. You will find a way to get the money," Leo reassured her, his voice a beacon of hope in the darkness of despair. The doctor provided the necessary medication, bringing a temporary reprieve to Evalina's mother. With all the money she had, Evalina paid for the medication, grateful for Leo's assistance. The weight of the situation hung heavy on her shoulders as she contemplated the daunting task ahead of securing funds for her mother's surgery. Despite Leo's help, he remained angry with Evalina, a rift forming between them. Later that evening, Jason decided to confide in his father, Jiah, about the events of the night. Jiah listened attentively, his expression grave as Jason recounted the encounter with Evalina and the mysterious mark on her neck. "Are you really sure about what you are saying?" Jiah questioned, seeking confirmation before making any decisions. "Yes, I'm very sure. It was emanating blue light, which drew me to the scene," Jason affirmed. Jiah requested some time alone, needing to process the information. Left alone, he felt a surge of fear, realizing that the mark indicated the existence of a child believed to be dead for 21 years—a child whose return threatened to upend everything. With a heavy heart, Jiah knew he had to find an alternative path before it was too late.
