“Did you want to see my latest work?” asked Adrian, interrupting his thoughts. “Always,” said Troy, reluctantly getting up, eager to see Adrian’s work, but wanting to keep him on the porch a while longer. Adrian took his hand and led him back into the house. They’d turned the garage into a studio and put in large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The place always had that Adrian-smell of paint and charcoal, but writ large. A few pieces leaned against one wall, and a nearly completed one sat on the easel. It was a riot of color, abstract flowers tumbling over one another. “I might want to keep this one,” grinned Troy as he looked it over, just as he always did. “No you don’t, but thank you,” said Adrian, the response almost a ritual.
