Chapter one "Good morning everyone. I regret to say you are all dismissed!," the gruesome man standing before them with a caved hideous face announced to them. The hall became noisy. It is an insurance company. Every staff do their best to make sure they don't lose their job, notwithstanding the character he has been displaying for the past two months. That is the manager of the company. He misbehaves and acts as if he owns the company. But anyway, all the blame should be on the owner who left this kind of a man to be in charge. Now he has torn the company apart. Everyone were in despair. Some were even dead speechless. "Sir I thought the company was doing fine lately. So what happened?" Jack went up to him. Everyone nodded, supporting his statement. "Yes,what happened!? Tell us!?," The workers protested, waiting for the grisly man to give them a solid answer. "Shut up you all! You are all dismissed! Now leave! You don't have the right to question me, fools!,“ he growled at them. "You are just a jerk. I hope nemesis catch up with you real quick," one of the workers spat out angrily. He has been working for this company for as long as he could remember and when the owner of the company was still here, everything was rosy. But since this man took over, the company has experienced alot of ups and down. "Well, I guess this is the end of it bro. That jerk isn't going to listen to us, even if we continue to protest till dawn," a colossal handsome man with brown curled hair tapped jack's shoulder, making an effort to soothe his grief. The manager is a big jerk and a proud fool that just likes to play with the workers intelligence. Sometimes he might just decide not to even pay the workers their salaries and he would lavish it on ladies. He was such a flirt who couldn't keep his c**k still or at least just have a woman in his life. He f***s ladies around, commanding them and making use of their p*****s. Well the staffs don't have a choice, do they? Mali economy is just as dreadful as a poor chicken roaming about without an owner. Mali economy is in total mess. The citizens are suffering and are in deprivation. They are just so unlucky with the government they have. The citizens are like needles in a haystack. No employment opportunities. Everything is skyrocketing, and outlying to get a job. If you get one, grab it quickly and don't let it go. Not like the workers can quit their jobs and throw it in his face. I'm sure no one would even want to work in the company anymore if they had a choice to walk out anytime they deem fit. After all the efforts they made to tolerate his mindless character, he eventually end up disbanding them. Jack took in a deep breathe before he made his way out of the company. Well this is not the end of the world. With a heavy heart he got home and went straight to his room. It was almost dusk when he got home. The house was a bit dark and chilly. When he entered his room, his eyes caught sight of the bed as his brain interpreted the pictures in his mind. He needs to dive into that bed right away His comfort zone. After all, the only person he would have shared his pain with died few years ago. That was his mom. Presha was a lovely mother. A woman of virtue. He regrets the fact she left them too soon. Actually he has a younger sister, Ella. It's just the two of them struggling against all odds. They lost their parents in a car accident. That fatal accident many years ago still remain in their minds. Jack was only eighteen then. He had just started the journey of life. He wished she hadn't left him. The only one who could understand his pain and interpret whatever expression shows on his face. Though, people say guys are closer to their dad while the ladies to their mom. Well this is different, Jack was more closer to his mom. He would remember how she cared for him when not even his father could show that kind of affection. She was such a good woman and a mother. A little drop of tears ran down his cheeks as he thought of Presha. "Not again," he quickly wiped off the tears when he noticed he started crying already which is usually so quick for him. He inherited that emotional attitude from Presha and also her eyes. She had the most beautiful eyes but extremely succulent, it can easily produce tears. It was not something she could control if she wanted. Either someone said something hurtful or joyful you would surely see a tear on her smooth cheek. Jack stood in front of the mirror lost in his thoughts. But he jolted when he heard the cranky sound of the door from the living room. That should be Ella. He suddenly came back to his senses and took off his clothes before going to confirm where the sound came from or who did it. "Oh! it's Ella," he adjusted the curtain a bit, to brighten the room since the sun was settling and dusk was about to come into the night. "Hey bro, you are back so early?" she twisted her head to the wall clock, to confirm what the time says. “6pm? What the heck? Why are you are back so early?,” she asked cause he normally close from work by 8pm and gets home at max 10pm due to traffic on the road but today is quite different and surprising. "Yeah," he replied curtly. She moved closer to him, observing the difference on his face. It isn't smooth as it used to. It seems someone just finished crying his eyes out. "Wait, have you been crying?" I guess her discern is right. He has been crying and thinking of what would happen to them now that he has lost his job! "No Ella," he denied. "Then what!,” she yelled in a soft tone not making her sound rude or being disrespectful to her elder brother. "Come take a seat Ella. I will tell you everything," he replied smoothly. "Alright speak up or is it Anna? Did you guys fight again? Just tell me and I will know the right thing to do," she said, grabbing a seat beside him. Anna is his long-term girlfriend. They have been dating for so long. Things just started getting difficult between them cause of his financial status. "We were dismissed from our jobs today," he sighed out. "What!!," she screamed. “ Why did they dismiss you guys?" "Well, this is the same question that has been spinning in my head. The manager just lost it," he snarled. "Wow, he surely needs a psychiatrist. How could he do that without any warning in advance?" "That's fine. It's going to be okay sister. Now go get some rest, I hope school wasn't stressful for you today." "It wasn't except for the stupid embarrassment I got today from the principal just because of school fees," she rolled her eyes as she went straight to grab the last snacks in the kitchen. "Jack, there is nothing in the house and the vendor woman wants us to pay the rice we bought from her two days ago," she complained. "Hmm, that's OK. I'll get something for us to survive on," he said as he went back to his room. Monday says welcome to torment. How is he gonna cope without a job? Even the economy is bad and he just lost his job, his bills will keep on rising bit by bit. Unemployment will just cause more problems for him and his sister. Chapter two *zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!* The loud buzzing sound of the alarm clock made Jack jerk out of his bed. "Oh yeah I got it. I got it," he mumbled, hitting the alarm on the nightstand beside his bed and brought it to a stop. He hastily got out of his comfy bed and quickly did his early morning exercise. Jack was heading to his wardrobe to get his work clothes ready. He opened it with force because it is usually hard to open. "The clothes isn't here. Then where could it be? Huh? I didn't wash it yesterday? What do I wear to work now?," His face twitched with annoyance as he thought of what to do. "Oh f**k! Wait a minute! I'm now in the unemployed category. Oh s**t!," he kicked the hardwood bed, making his foot to twist. He thought it was work day, the alarm usually wakes him up at exactly 7am to prepare him for work. "I understand. You will be fine," Ella appeared his room from nowhere consoling him. Did she notice all that had happened just now? "Well, just move on. Think of what to do next and make sure you eat. I made breakfast. Grab some before you go out," Ella announced as she grabbed her pink coloured school bag. "Hmmm," he nodded, waving a good bye to her. After getting his mind back, his stomach began to groan. "s**t, so quick?," he felt his grumpy stomach with his hand and headed towards the kitchen. Ella did say she kept some food for him. He hastily removed the lid of the pot, digging in his fork to eat what she cooked. While consuming the green vegetable rice hastily as if he was being chased by some strange creature, he got a text message. What does it says? "Huh! What's that?," he got up to grab his phone. "Credit alert? How?" He was baffled, perplexity crept unto his pale face and he even started having goosebumps. "Wait a minute," he checked the name of the sender. It is from the company. The text message is displaying their bank name. Did the bastard decide to pay the salary he has been owing them for months now? "Oh good lord!," he burst into joy, bouncing off the walls as he is full of nervous energy. He has some money now at least. It is better than having nothing at all and being broke totally. After receiving the credit alert of a sum of 50k pounds, he began looking for his ATM card. He knew what to do to increase his funds. He has been introduced into an investment that increases funds according to their principles by his friend, Benjamin. Yeah! Let me introduce Benjamin. Benjamin is Jack's childhood friend. They've lived all their lives together right from secondary school. Jack arrived at the automated teller machine to withdraw the money. He insert the card into it and followed the instructions. " Pick up your call bro!," he gnashed his teeth. He was calling Benjamin after withdrawal. He really needs to invest the money before he spend it. Mr man was taking forever to pick up his cell phone. "Hello!" He finally picked up the damn phone. "Yeah, it's me," Jack giggled. " I'm ready to invest now." "OK, meet me at the bar," he responded. The bar is their favorite spot. There they catch fun after working their asses out. He did as he was told to do and waited patiently for Benjamin. Little does he know what would happen next. Benjamin arrived there within thirty minutes. He was probably close. He sometimes stays around cause his mom lives close by in the neighborhood. "Yo! man," he took his right hand in his own for a few moments, moving it up and down slightly. "Whats up? I'm going to give you a form to fill right away, and a document to sign on." "Sure alright," Jack nodded. They were sitting at the beer partition on a red couch. The bar is noisy as usual. Guys and ladies on every sides drinking and doing their s**t. Jack inscribed his signature without reading it properly. He doesn't read documents properly as he is afraid that it might take his time. He just skim through it as reading details is not really his thing. Especially anything that has terms and condition, he just clicks on "I agree" without going through. He hastily filled out the form . The form is actually something to hoax you or swindle you into speculating it is a true deal. He invested almost his 40k pounds believing it will double up in a month time. After signing the document, he used the remaining cash to settle his debts with the vendors in his neighborhood and also buy few necessary stuffs. Jack arrived home before Ella. He went straight to the kitchen to prepare some sauce he got on his way back. A creaking sound of the door was heard while he was still making dinner. That should be Ella. Why was she late today? It was passed 7pm. She is supposed to be home at least 6:30pm. "Hey sis, what's up?," he walked out of the kitchen holding a napkin in his left hand. "Why did you come home this late? " he furrowed his brow. "Hey bro, what is popping? What is the celebration all about?," she was sniffing her nose as she tried avoiding his questions. "Oh that," he gestured as he talked. "That is a miracle sis," he smiled. "Oh yeah! Tell me!," she gulps. " Oh hold on, I asked you a question," Jack said as he remembered what he asked her before. Well, he caught her trying to wave the questions off. "OK bro, I got a part time job so I could help with the bills," she shut her eyes as she spoke, not wanting to see his reaction. "You what!," he snarled "Hey Ella, you are too young for that," he spoke softly reducing his harsh tone. He doesn't want to be too harsh on her. Beside, she only wants to make things easy for him. Even so, he couldn't help but feel ashamed. "I just want to help!," she screamed, her eyes still shut avoiding his intent gaze. "I know Ella, but you don't need to do that. Your elder brother will figure everything out. We will be fine soon. I'm gonna get another job and yeah I'm also into an investment that will bring us money," he explained like he was talking to a six years old child. Anyway Ella will always remain small in his eyes since he has watched her grow up to this stage. "Are you sure?," She lowered her head , moving in close proximity to Jack as a smile curved on her face. Hmm, is he truly going to get another job or he got into a dire straits Instead? Watch out a snowball's chance in hell.
