Song for this Chapter: Easy-Camila Cabelo CHAPTER 1 CORINNE I can feel my lungs burning as I am running this dark alley from a very familiar neighborhood, I grew up in. I am just fourteen years old, and I know what the word “desperate” really means, and what is the weight of that word is. I remember this night so vividly, this has been my dream for almost eighteen years now. It's like I'm being reminded again and again why I'm here now, What I should do and what life we had before. I only feel two things when I remember our life here in our neighborhood; Sad and Happy. Sad, because I everything in this place. I lost the life I had lived. I lost the little girl I once was. Happy, because I remember how happy mom and I living simply in this place. That even if life is hard, at least I get to be so happy even if I don’t have the thing I have right now. If I would be given a chance to choose; I’ll still choose this place, no matter what. I still choose that life, the life I had been longing for years now. the life where all I can see is rainbow and flashing colors. Not this black, gray, and white place I’ve been. My sweat is dripping on my face, but I don’t care. My feet hurt and bleeding as my throat cutting short because of the scream I just made. “Help!” that’s what I am screaming for I don’t know how long, but it seems like no one is hearing me, or should I say no one wants to interfere and be the one whose screaming help. All our neighbors are like family, I wonder what went down that even if I pound really hard on their door, no one’s answering. I stumble and I can’t stand up anymore, exhausted as my visions becomes blurry. I need help, Mom needs help. We need help, but no one is there for us when we need them. Mom is always there for them when they need her, how come they won’t help Mom too? She’s in so much pain, so much pain that she won’t moving anymore. she’s breathing, I can feel that she’s breathing but she won’t wake up. On a dark alley, a dark luxurious car stops in front of me as a strange man step his foot out of his car. He’s wearing a black suit but I can’t even see his feature. I sobs, I don’t know why. But as I see his hands reach out to me to help me sat down, I broke down in his and hug him before my very eyes. “Help me, help my Mom. Please?” That’s the only word I can only say at the moment as he tightens his hug on me. He seems familiar, he seems someone I know through the pictures that Mom let me see. “Let’s get her.” He said. He kissed the top of my head soothing me down “I’ve missed you, daughter.” That's when I woke up from the very dream that's been haunting me since I came here. Now, I have to face the f*****g reality.
