Chapter 3: Day To Day Life (2) *** "That was a month ago... I'm sure you won't look desperate for trying to call him once a month." Nathan said as if it was obvious. "Besides, I thought you two were beyond hiding your feelings..." He paused after seeing the thoughtful look in his friend's eyes. "He used to be so clingy... so I got used to it... Now I feel like it was endearing even... He would always be one to get in touch with me so I didn't think much about it. I guess it just proves I'm still not ready to be in a relationship..." Mason said as he sat down next to his friend. "I just don't know what I'll do if this 'break' we're taking from one another is going to be a permanent one..." "I'm sorry I can't really help you with that one... You know I've given up on dating as a whole." Nathan said as he sat up. "When my parents heard I wasn't going to make them grandparents, my mother was about to throw hands." He continued jokingly. "Eh... I'm sure you'll find someone, everyone eventually does..." Mason said as he laughed lightly. "Not me! All I need is a car, gas money and friends." Nathan said, that particular phrase had long become his motto and he repeated it quite often as of late. As of late meaning, the past two months when he had officially given up on dating anyone. He deleted all his dating apps from his phone and focused solely on his interests. "You know... I'm this close to thinking the same way... well minus the car and gas money thing..." Mason said as he stood up. He wasn’t interested in cars to begin with, not to mention what a crappy driver he was. He didn’t want to risk anyone getting hurt because of him so not driving was certainly the best option. “It’s not a bad way too look at things.” Nathan remarked, a bit pride fully. "Maybe... I should focus on my career instead... I've been spending so much of my time worrying over unnecessary things that I haven’t been thinking about what's actually important to me." Mason said as he sat down in front of his computer again, preparing to write again. "That's the spirit!" Nathan said as he also stood up. "Just do what you're good at and don’t think about him!" He said in an encouraging manner. "Thanks... you've been a huge help these past couple of months... You even came along with me when I was dropping out of Uni." Mason expressed his gratitude towards his friend, the only person he could rely on at the moment, having no one else beside him. "It’s not a big deal. I just came along." Nathan said, but what the man didn’t know was how terrified his friend was while in the office. Mason wanted to drop out since a while back in the semesters, he didn’t learn the things they were supposedly there to teach him and it took a lot away from his work. He realized he didn’t want to study in University before, even though he initially thought of it as what he wanted. He had a lot of anxiety while walking though those doors and going up to the Front Office, he had plenty of thoughts rushing through his head and neither one of them was a pleasant one. In truth if it hadn’t been Nathan being there with him, he most certainly wouldn’t have managed to do it. He would have prolonged it for another day and then another one... Even if Mason preferred to portray himself as this confident and strong person, he wasn’t... He was a mess, full of anxiety and intrusive thoughts that didn’t allow him to sleep well at night. His OCD caused him to constantly feel like whatever he touched was so filthy he had to wash his hands several times over to keep them clean. “Well, I’ll be going back to sleep… I hope you get some sleep too.” Nathan said as he headed to the other room, leaving the man alone with his thoughts. “Calling him, huh…” Mason took out his phone and began dialing his lover’s number, he felt his heart race as he heard the phone’s ringing noises… once, twice… then… no answer… “Ed… when I see you… I swear I’m going to punch you for all this…” Mason muttered to himself as he stood up. It was still nighttime, but he couldn’t sleep, all he could really do was close his eyes and try to fall asleep, or so he thought… until he heard a knock on the door… ‘Huh? Who’s knocking so late at night… it can’t be the landlord, right? We already paid this month’s rent… it can’t be for the apartment tax either, right? We’re not making noise… what is it…’ Mason headed to the door in a grumpier mood than before and looked though the peephole to see who it was and he couldn’t believe his eyes. He opened the door so quickly he could probably break it if he was only a bit stronger. “Ed!” Mason said as he looked at the man that he just tried to call. The man was right in front of his eyes at that very moment, and no it wasn’t a dream either. “Hi…” Edward on the other hand had a very cold way of answering the man. “You… you f*****g… moron!” Mason jumped to hug his lover and drag him inside the apartment. He was already crying tears of joy after seeing him. “You have no idea how much I missed you!” He said as he squeezed the man’s shoulders tighter and tighter. “I even tried calling and-” but he was suddenly interrupted by the other’s cold voice once more. “Before you say anything… I wanted to speak to you about something.” The way Edward spoke made it seem like it was very important. “Sure… what is it?” Mason asked as he went to sit down on the sofa, the dog Leo jumped up to sit next to him. “I think we should break up.” Edward said as he took a step closer to the man but didn’t sit down…
