3 “You are really not that strong, aren’t you?”

Mikaela followed Headmistress Victoria out of the building. Her heart hammered in her chest as it became clear that he was really going to leave her here. She had thought that maybe he will not leave her there. He will change his mind, and not use her to hurt her mother. But there was no one running after her as she walked behind the headmistress. She dashed her hand wiping at the tears that filled her eyes. The headmistress walked very fast ahead of her, and Mikaela tried her best to keep up with her. The school was silent and she couldn’t see anyone walking around where they were walking. She wondered where everyone was. Maybe they were in class. It was still early in the day.  They walked through a garden that was well taken care off to a set of buildings in the far distance. She dragged her suitcase on the paved path, almost falling as it hit an uneven part. The suitcase tilted taking her down with it. She fought to remain on her feet, by sheer luck. The headmistress turned and stared at her. “You are really not that strong aren’t you?” she asked looking her up and down in that way of hers that made Mikaela uncomfortable. “The Alpha King doesn’t associate himself with weak wolves. His wolf is too strong for that. Many wolves can’t handle being in his presence. Where did he get someone like you? I don’t understand.” She said with a shake of her head. “Uhhh…” Mikaela looked down at her feet. “I didn’t see that there,” she said biting into the bottom lip. It was right there on her tongue to tell her that she was a human, but she had a bad feeling about it. She didn’t know how she would react. And about the Alpha King…she couldn’t exactly handle being close to him. She felt like she was suffocating when she was in the car with him. She didn’t think she could be in his presence for too long either. The headmistress turned and continued to walk dismissing her. She followed her to the building in the middle. There were three in number. She opened the door, and they walked in. The building led into a foyer, where there was a staircase that climbed up to three floors. The first door on the right led to an entertainment room. And the other led to the bathroom. The headmistress walked to the end of the foyer, not heading upstairs. She opened the door and waited for her to catch up. “You will be sleeping in here,” she said pointing to a stripped bed set against the wall. There was another bed in the room. It was made up with a beautiful floral duvet. The colours on it entranced Mikaela that she wished she had her painting stuff with her. There were also a few posters on the wall and a desk full books. She was clearly going to be sharing the room with someone. “Use today to get settled and I will see you tomorrow,” she said heading out the door. Mikaela turned to her, and watched her leave her there. She looked around the room, feeling so alone and abandoned. She walked to her side of the room. And sat on the bed. She closed her eyes, wishing she was home with her grandfather and mother. This place felt cold, and unwelcoming. Mikaela shivered. She wrapped her arms around her body. How long was he going to keep her here? She asked herself thinking of the cruel face of the Alpha King. He had looked at her with disgust. It was clear he couldn’t stand her. Mikaela didn’t know how long she sat there. But it was clear that it was a while, because she could hear voices in the house. She got up and walked to the door. She opened it, and looked towards the sound. Girls her age and older were walking into the house. Some were going upstairs while other walked towards her. She stood there frozen as she watched three of the girls who had slammed into her walk her way. Their eyes zeroed in on her, and the hairs on her arms rose. They looked like the mean girls she had seen in almost every teen movie she’s ever watched. They were beautiful, well dressed with a slim figure. Their hair ranged from black to brown. The one in the middle looked like the it girl with her shimmering brown eyes, and mean yet confident smile. And at the moment she was looking at Mikaela with a challenge in her eyes. Mikaela stood still trying very hard not to show the fear she could feel bubbling inside her. Oh no…Mikaela thought as they came to a stop in front of her. She looked at them hoping that she wasn’t going to share a room with one of them. That would be a nightmare. They came at her and pushed her out of the way. Mikaela bumped into the door, hitting her head against the wood. She swallowed the gasp of pain as one of them stepped close to her. She pinned her to the door, keeping her there, while the others walked to the other side of the room and started to look around trashing the space. “It’s not here, Haile,” one of them said referring to the one who bumped into Mikaela. The beautiful one was Haile. She had a beautiful name too, Mikaela thought admiration slipping into her mind. She wished she was that confident.   “s**t…where did that b***h hide it,” Haile said turning to the door. “Bree leave her and come and help us search.” Bree left Mikaela and ran to the bed and flipped the mattress over. Mikaela breathed easily now that she didn’t have someone holding her still, but she remained at the door. They searched around for a few minutes and then gave up. “We have to go,” Bree said looking at the door. Mikaela almost flinched as Bree’s eyes came to her. “Haile, Heather, let’s go. It’s clear she didn’t leave it in here.” “That witch,” Haile said with a growl that sounded more animal than human. She walked to the door. “If you tell her we were here. You are dead meat,” she said sniffing the air around her. “It’s really disgusting that you smell like nothing.” She pushed Mikaela against the door again. This time there was more power to the push. Mikaela crumbled against the door and fell to her knees. She stayed down until she was sure that they were gone. She pushed to her feet, and walked to her bed. Her back ached from when they pushed her against the door. She slowly sat down and stared at the mess they left behind. She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t be strong like her grandfather wanted. She couldn’t fight mean girls like that. No. She wanted to go home. Why did that alpha have to come and take her away from her family? She didn’t do anything. Mikaela wiped at the tears that fell from her eyes. She pulled her knees to her chest as she silently sobbed. What was she going to do?
