Counting The Days Volume 2 Takano Masamune Chapter 1: The One Day Off (1) *** Every so often Mason manages to complete his work quicker than usual and takes the last day of the month off. He’d usually just spend it watching anime at home but this time Edward seemed to have different plans for him… “Do we really have to go out?” Mason whined as he held his boyfriend’s shirt pulling it lightly like a child. “Haha~ Don’t act so cute or I’ll want to spend the day inside doing something else…” Edward said with a cheery voice as he unlocked the door and nudged his boyfriend to come with him. “Then…” Mason wrapped his arms around his lover’s neck and tilted his head to the side, exposing his white neck. “…how about we stay at home and do exactly that?” He asked in a seductive whisper then pulled the man in for a rough kiss. “Mhmm… mm… mhm…” Their tongues melting onto each other under the warmth they exchanged. The familiar yet still exciting feeling made both of them hot with anticipation for what will come next. Lips parting slightly, Mason gave a suggestive glance at his lover. “So? Do you want to do me, darling?” He asked with a light smile on his face. “Nice try but I won’t allow you to escape going out so easily. And you promised we’d spend your day off together.” Edward said with a smile on his face. “Yeah, but can’t we spend it indoors? Outside’s no good… the sun’s so strong today, plus there are so many people swarming the streets and my legs hurt… I really don’t want to go out…” Mason complained while listing off reasons he didn’t want to go out. “Humour me, just for today…” Edward said in a gentle voice. “Do we really have to…” Mason felt like he’d rather not engage in social activities or even be around others. It was always like that at the end of the month. “You’ve been holed up in your apartment for the past two weeks to meet your deadlines. Don’t you want to see what it’s like outside, just a little bit?” Edward asked as he pulled the man out of the apartment, as if he hadn’t actually given him a choice just now. “I have a window… I see what it’s like outside, and I told you it was jam packed with cars and people…” Mason continued complaining while his lover was locking the apartment door. “It’s going to be fine, come on… I have somewhere I want to show you.” Edward seemed to be much more excited about this outing than the author was. “Fine…” Mason said in a defeated tone. ‘What could be so important…’ The author wondered to himself as he followed his lover. “Do your legs hurt?” Edward asked after several minutes of walking. “A little bit, am I limping again?” The author asked as he looked at his legs. He had a hard time noticing it himself when it happens. “No, but you mentioned it hurt so I was worried.” Edward said as they walked, he took hold of the other’s arm. “I’ll hold you, it might help…” “T-that’s not nessessary! We’re in public, what if someone…” Mason overreacted once again. “Come on, nobody will care…” Edward said and held onto his lover’s hand. “How are you okay with this… People here aren’t really accepting of relationships like these…” Mason said as he tried to hide away his face. “Well… they might even think you’re a girl to be honest…” Edward carelessly remarked. “What?! Who are you calling a girl? Just because I’m not as tall or as muscular as you, doesn’t mean I’m any less of a man… Damn you…” Mason was mad but even his angered expression seemed to be adorable to the other man. The author’s baby face wasn’t doing him any favours either. “That’s not it… It’s just, I haven’t seen a man as beautiful as you.” Edward explained himself. “T-that… doesn’t really make me happy to hear…” Mason had been called feminine before but never ‘beautiful’. Because he’d never been complimented like that, he had a hard time accepting it. “Do you remember when we started dating?” Edward asked as they walked to the seaside. “Not really, it’s a bit of a blur the exact moment. In a way we just became accustomed to each other I think…” Mason said then turned to look at the man that had suddenly went silent. “That wasn’t the answer I expected…” Edward said in a quiet voice then smiled helplessly. “Hm? Then what should I have said?” Mason asked in a confused voice. ‘I just voiced my point of view… What was he expecting?’ “So… you don’t remember the exact day, that’s fine I guess I just kind of assumed the day myself.” Edward said as he urged the other to walk into a restaurant they used to frequent. “R’s place… Why are we going in? Is it a special occasion or something?” Mason asked as he was being led to a nice table in the back of the restaurant. “You could say that… It’s been six months since we’ve been dating, I wanted to show you a good time.” Edward said with a smile. “Though you don’t seem to care for things like that…” “It’s been that long? Really…” Mason said with an even more confused voice as they sat down at the table. “You didn’t know?” Edward asked as he giggled lightly. “It’s nothing to laugh about… I really have no idea how that much time passed by… I guess I’ve become so comfortable with you that I didn’t even pay attention to anything else…” Mason felt a bit bad that he didn’t remember an occasion that was obviously important to the other person. “Haha… You have become more open with me than before. I’m really thankful for that.” Edward said in a light hearted voice. “I’m sorry that I forgot about this…” Mason said as he looked down at the table. ‘Ed might have been looking forward to spending time with me… and I spent most of the time complaining.’ “It’s not a big deal. As long as you enjoy the rest of the day, it doesn’t matter if you forgot what a day it was.” Edward said as he caressed the author’s thin hand. “Have you lost weight recently? You seem much thinner than before.” He said observing the other’s body. “I have in fact! Since I’ve been sitting a lot at home, after I got the punshing bag I’ve been exercising like crazy. You can tell?” Mason seemed excited for his lover to notice the difference in him, even though it wasn’t a large difference. “Yes, you look great.” Edward said with a smile on his face. ‘Why do I suddenly feel embarrassed at his words…’ Mason wondered as he lightly blushed. “Hello! So sorry for the wait, what would you like to order?” The waitress asked as she held out her pen and paper. “We’ll have…” Edward listed off several things from the menu and the waitress noded her head in understanding. ‘Thank God he ordered instead of me… I’m no good at choosing things like that.’ Mason said to himself. He wasn’t the antisocial type however when he spends all his time at home it’s difficult to suddenly jump into a situation like that. “So, I know this might be a bit unessessary… But I thought you might like it.” Edward said as he took out a small box from his backpack and gave it to the other student. Mason took it in his hands and looked inside. Inside the box there was a pair of golden earings with a green gem stone. “How did you know I wanted these?” “I… noticed you were looking at them a lot.” Edward said with a smile on his face. ‘That’s a new way of saying you looked at my browsing history…’ Mason remarked in his mind but decided not to voice his words. “Can I put them on you?” Edward asked as he took one of the earings and held it up. “Sure.” Mason took off the earings he was wearing and allowed his boyfriend to put the new ones on him. “Just as I thought…” Edward paused for a second, his expression turned blank. The gesture confused the other student. “What is it?” Mason asked. “You’re beautiful.” Edward said as he smiled once again. ‘That’s not… something you should say to a guy…’ Even though Mason wanted to complain, he held back because of the atmosphere. “The food’s here, let’s eat.” Edward said as he noticed the waitress bringing their order…
