Chapter Two

2001 Words
Chapter Two After dropping Bella, or baby Belle as I like to call her, off I get to my school in the nick of time. I run to my locker to grab my books, and Arthur wraps his arms around my waist from behind. “Hey, Arty.” I greet. “Hey, Art.” He responds. Artemis and Arthur. Art and Arty. The ultimate dream team. I love my boyfriend so much that it’s not reasonable. The best thing is I know he loves me back the same amount. He, along with baby Belle, are the two greatest blessings in my life. I wouldn’t have gotten through the last six months without them. Once I grab my textbooks he spins me around and presses his lips to mine. “How are you holding up?” I shrug, and slip past him. Somehow we were lucky enough to have the same schedule this year. Junior year, when we started dating, we had no classes together. My Senior year started out shitty because my parents died early June. I’ve definitely been getting better, but I’m still heartbroken. They died a week after my 18th birthday. They left me their fortune, all their houses including the one in London. I also ended up getting custody of my baby sister, thank heavens. Now we live alone in a penthouse apartment on Madison Avenue in New York. We go to our first period, AP English, hand in hand. We take our usual seats next to each other, and class starts. “Alright, my lovely students. Today the Principles son is going to sit in on a couple classes, this period being one of them. As many of you know his name is William Carter. He is 22, finished college by 18 and did his masters by 20, he runs several businesses, and wants to see if this school is worth extra funding for a overseas trip. We want to take two hundred people from the senior class to London after winter break. Principle Carter asked his son if he would be willing to support this. Please be on your best behavior if you want this to happen. Also, if we get the funding, who goes on the trip will be based off of who has the best grades. So far our top two students in the senior class are Artemis Credence and Arthur Turner. Artemis and Arthur, make sure to make an extra great impression. I believe he’s sitting in on all of your classes, actually, so make us teachers proud. When he comes in please stand and greet him.” “Yes ma’am” Arty and I say in unison. It’s going to be annoying have a rich arrogant guy watching classes that I happen to be in, but I really want to go on this trip. Of course both Arty and I have a lot of money, so we could go anywhere we want for winter break, but this trip would be super fun. We’d be with all of our best friends which would be great. Our teacher starts the lesson, and about fifteen minutes in the most attractive guy I have ever seen walks in. He has an air of pure domination around him. He’s wearing a perfectly tailored suit that shows off his biceps beautifully. He is six feet of pure gorgeous and lean muscle. Every girl in the room leans towards him, but I don’t let him affect me. Sure, he’s hot, but I have a boyfriend that I love a lot, so I ignore the attraction. It’s purely physical. Arty and I stand up, and walk up to the front of the classroom to shake his hands. “Mr. Carter, these are our two best students in the senior class. Artemis Credence and Arthur Turner” His eyes are focused on me as he smiles and shakes Arty’s hand. Then he raises mine and plants a kiss on it. My initial attraction to him turns repulsive. There’s something about him that is rubbing me the wrong way, and making me quite weary. “Pleasure to meet both of you” he states. “Likewise” I kindly retort. “If you have any questions about anything, please let us know. We’d be happy to help.” Arty lets him know. “Oh, I absolutely will. You can count on it” he responds, eyes still trained on me. I suppress a disgusted shiver and smile. Arty and I take our seats, and William stands in the back of the classroom, watching silently. He is, indeed, in all of our classes before lunch. During lunch Arty and I head to the girls locker room, our typical kissing hideout. But today this isn’t about kissing. Today is just for him to comfort me. We sit down on the bench in the middle of the room, and I immediately start crying. Arty is one of the few people that I feel like I can let all of my emotions and sorrow out with. Lunch is about an hour, and for forty minutes I sit crying, Arty holding me, kissing my neck, and stroking my back. Eventually my tears dry out, and I turn to him with a weak smile. “I just miss them so much” I confide. He nods in understanding, and a few tears escape my eyes, he knows that the way to make me feel better is to kiss my neck and cheek, so he does. It’s just always been a comforting motion to me, along with hugs. Suddenly I hear footsteps from behind me, and Arty and I jump five feet apart. I turn around and look up to see none other than the notorious William Carter. I immediately wipe my tears and compose myself. “Mr. Carter, how can I help you? Were you just taking a tour?” He smiles cockily. “I was walking around the school briefly, and heard the sound of crying and wanted to investigate. What’s wrong, dear girl?” I smile. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just a little family drama.” He raises his eyebrows. “Please, tell me. I’d like to know more about the star student of the school. Unless, of course, you don’t want funding for the trip.” My smile turns tight, but I control myself. I decide to just tell him. “My parents passed away six months ago today.” A look of surprise, followed by sadness, followed by concern etch his features. Why on earth would he be concerned about me? “Are you alright?” “Quite. Just needed a moment.” William nods. “Well, you’re sure lucky to have such a friend who will support you.” “Boyfriend” Arty corrects. Williams eyes narrow, but he quickly gains back composure. He nods once before turning on his heel and gliding out of the room. Arty and I exchange a glance before bursting out laughing. What a strange man. I’m beyond relieved once school is over. I’ll never have to see William Carter again. I drive to pick up my sister, and then stop by an pastry shop. I pick up four cupcakes and take her home. Once home we both eat a cupcake as our afternoon snack together, before I set her down for her afternoon nap. I stay with her, sitting next to her in bed, until she falls asleep. Once she does I head to my room to do homework. Later that night I order sushi for dinner, it’s both of our favorite food. We’re in the middle of eating when I hear a knock on my door. I open it, assuming that it’s the hotel concierge sending his condolences, but instead I see William Carter on the other side. He has two bodyguards standing behind him. Something about this is very, very wrong. “Artemis, how lovely to see you again. May I come in?” He asks politely. “No, you may not. My sister and I are in the middle of dinner, and I’m not comfortable with letting a stranger into my house. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” He smiles an alarmingly sinister smile before pushing past me. His bodyguards follow suit. “Aroman, please take the child” William calmly commands. I run to the kitchen in time to see one of Williams body guards seize my sister. She yelps when he grabs her. Holding her awkwardly to him, he holds up her arm, despite her squirming, and snaps the bone. My sister screams, and he drops her to the floor. A bodyguard grabs onto me before I can run to my sister. William steps in front of me and tips my chin so that I’m looking at him. “When you disobey me, Artemis, you will be hurt. Whether it’s you I hurt or your sister, you will be in pain. Do not disobey me again.” The bodyguard holding me back releases me. “Babygirl, are you okay? I’m so sorry! Here, I’ll make it go away for you.” I run over to my little Bella and fall down next to her, sweeping her into my lap. Then, without even thinking about the fact that three men are watching me, I take her arm in my hand. She yelps, but understands that I’m about to heal her. For injuries more intense than a bruise, it takes a kiss to heal them. So, holding her arm ever so gently in my right hand while my left hand wrapped against her waist, I press a feather light kiss on her arm. I pull back and watch the bone stitch itself back together. Once it’s done, I look at her face. “Are you alright, baby? Does it hurt anymore?” She leans up and whispers in my ear, “I’m okay, but those bad men saw you make me all better. What do we do now?” It’s at that moment that the enormity of the situation hits me. I just outed myself to one of the most powerful men in America. I stand up and hoist my baby into my arms, before facing William and his men. His facial expression is pure shock and awe. “I knew you had to be mine since the moment I saw you, but I was going to wait to take you. Now you need to be mine this instant.” “f**k you!” I hiss at him. “Oh trust me, you will. Many times.” “No. I would really rather f*****g die then ever step into bed with you, or even spend time with you. Just leave me alone!” One of his men scoops up my sister, and the other one grabs me, holding me still. I watch in horror as William takes a rag out of his jacket. He walks over to me and places it over my mouth. I try to hold my breath as long as possible. I try to kick him, but that results in a stinging slap on my face delivered by the guard holding me. I gasp, and inhale the chloroform. “You f*****g i***t! Don’t you dare hurt her at all!” “But, sir, she-“ I watch as William raises his hand, snaps his fingers, and hear the neck of the man restraining me break. My last thought before darkness consumes me is; what the f**k have I gotten myself into?
