Chapter 2 NEW BEGINNING

1127 Words
YUNIFER'S POV I ran and ran while carrying my brother who was peacefully sleeping. Tears slowly fell down my cheeks as I kept on running, didn't know where my feet would bring us to. However, that didn't matter. What matters is that we can get out of that house. It was a good thing that we were able to leave the house, especially that it seemed that Mr. Lacker seemed to be strong. It was also a good thing that Mother Cilda was unconscious or else it would be difficult for us to escape from that hellish house. My feet become numb from the pain. I was also breathless from running. I felt that my lungs would burst from a lack of air. When I looked back and found that there was no one behind us, it made me sigh in relief as I stopped my track and took a rest together with my brother who was still unconscious. I pursed my lips as I pulled the handkerchief out of my pocket and wiped off the sweat from Asher's forehead. I never wanted him to see such a horrible scene. Thinking about what happened earlier made me want to vomit. It would be much better if he would just forget about what he encountered earlier. Our mother is a werewolf and she has full authority in our house while the father is a human. I don't know why she became abusive but she became like this ever since our father died. She gave birth to us, but we didn't inherit her genes as a werewolf. I am a human while my brother is a werewolf. I can't manifest to werewolves just like our mother while my brother can. Maybe that was the reason why she hated me or maybe it was because my human father died. He died after my mother gave birth to me. Indeed, after my father died she became abusive and started to abuse me. It became more excessive when she got pregnant with Asher. Asher and I had different fathers but the same mother. Despite that, I treated my brother with care and love. I wanted to protect him and not let him see the cruelty of our mother. Back then, I swore to protect my brother against my mother and anything that is a threat to him. Yet, It was he who protected me, instead of I, who should protect him. I hugged my brother tightly in my arms and softly murmured. "I'm sorry... I-I'm sorry... Your big sister wasn't strong enough... " My eyes blurred from tears and my voice choked. Because of me, he was in this state. I felt weak. I felt hopeless. The kind of feeling where thousands of hands were restraining me and keeping me on the ground, preventing me from getting stronger. No, that was just an excuse. I am weak. I am a coward. My cowardice leads my brother to be in this state. I glance at my brother who was sleeping peacefully and I bend down to kiss his forehead. "I'll get stronger to protect you." I softly murmured with solemnity in my heart. After I rested for a few minutes, I stood up and continued to run in this endless forest. I couldn't rest assured if I can't find a residence to stay in together with my brother especially since he was burning up. It wasn't until I found a town at the end of the forest that I left relief. But I know that this would be the beginning of my life together with my brother. The moment I glanced at this town, I decided it was best to stay here and hide with my brother for the time being. When I walked towards the city's gate, I was stopped by the two guards. I instinctively raised my guard, looking at them with vigilance. I was about to talk to them when I scent such a unique yet familiar scent. A werewolf? I didn't notice that my whole body was trembling and it was full of vigilance towards them as if it instinctively feel that all werewolves are my enemy. Although I was afraid and started to hate werewolves because of my mother, I could just bite my tongue and grit my teeth to stay here because my brother was burning badly. Asher is a werewolf and I'm not sure if an ordinary human doctor could cure him. The two werewolves who were guarding the gate looked at us from up to down and the disgust that flashed in their eyes can't escape from my sharp gazes. "C-Can we stay here?" I softly asked while looking at them with vigilance. One of the werewolf guards sneered without talking but I could see that he was scanning me from up to down, trying to see if I'm worth entering their paradise. Just when I thought that I would not be allowed to enter their haven when suddenly a werewolf girl walked in our direction and coldly glanced at the two werewolves. "Let her in. She didn't pose any threat. Besides, it seemed that her brother was sick." The girl who had an innocent expression had a cold tone but the way she spoke to them seemed to be commanding them. The werewolves who were guarding the gate removed their gazes at me as they opened the gate, letting us in. I glanced at the werewolf girl who was glaring at the two werewolves. It seemed that this girl should not be low in status after all these two werewolves respected her very much. I glanced at the girl and slightly bow my head. "T-Thank you..." The girl just smiled at me and waved her hand as if to tell me that it was nothing before she left. I step my foot inside the town. Wolven Village is a bustling town. I could see young and old folks who were busy with their business. But I think that the people here are the same as my mother. A werewolf. Mother Kilda always has a unique scent that is very distinguishable from the scent of humans. This is why I would hide together with my brother in a place that is safe for us whenever mother comes back to our house since I know that she would find us to vent her anger through violence. I let out a sigh of relief and entered the town with ease all thanks to the girl who lend her hand to me or else I would be having a hard time finding another town, especially at this hour while holding my brother who was scalding from his fever. For now, I have to buy medicine for my brother.
