Chapter 2

1630 Words
Lucy's objection to her father's wishes was futile, so after six months, her wedding with Adam was scheduled. There was no engagement party because Adam was still in another country. It is rumored that his foot operation was not successful, so he will remain bound to a wheelchair. The day of Lucy and Adam's wedding arrived. The venue was in the wide backyard of Adam's own house. Aside from his parents' large house, he also had his own big house. If Lucy is wearing a wedding dress, Cindy is also wearing the same dress with her. She is one of Lucy's bridesmaids and according to her cousin, all of the bridesmaids will be wearing wedding dresses as well. Even though Cindy wonders why she was chosen to be one of the bridesmaids when they are not close to each other, she decides not to question it anymore. She knows for sure that Lucy will just scold her if she asks any further. "Lucy, can I just wear a simple white dress instead? I feel too uncomfortable with this wedding dress. It's like I'm the one getting married and not you," Cindy couldn't help but complain to her cousin. In her opinion, she looks better in her outfit compared to the wedding dress of her cousin so she feels awkward. "Can you stop complaining? Be grateful that I even chose you to be one of my bridesmaids, okay?" Lucy said sharply to her cousin. "Come on. Get in the car so we can leave. My groom is probably annoyed waiting for me." Cindy frowned when she saw that the car she would ride to the church was the wedding car. "Are we going to ride in the same car?" She suddenly hesitated. Lucy really disliked riding in the same car with her. She might get a sermon from her afterward. Her cousin asked her to do some things that's why she couldn't go with her Uncle Lando to the church earlier. "Your annoying, Cindy. Come inside already or we might be late," Lucy ordered with a disapproving look. Cindy let out a deep sigh before obediently getting into the car without a word. She moved to the side as her cousin got in beside her. During the trip, Cindy couldn't help but stare at her cousin. She knew that she strongly opposed marrying Adam, but why did it seem like she couldn't wait to get to the church? Or perhaps she had finally realized that marrying a man who had no hope of standing up again would be the best choice for the salvation of her father's company. They were not far from home when Lucy suddenly instructed their driver, Dado to stop the car beside the road. "Why, Lucy? Why did you ask Dado to stop?" Cindy asked curiously. "I forgot my bouquet," Lucy quickly replied. "You and Dado will go ahead to the church to tell them I will be late for a few minutes. I will just get my bouquet." "Huh? You can use the bouquet designed at the church. You will be late even more if you go back just to get the bouquet. Or let me get the bouquet for you," Cindy said to her cousin. Unaware that Lucy had something planned that would put her in a situation she couldn't escape from. "I don't want to. I want to use my own bouquet. And so what if I'm late? The wedding won't start without me, you know," Lucy replied irritably before getting out of the car and hailing a taxi. "Drive faster so you can get to the church quickly, Dado. Cindy will explain to my parents that I will arrive a little late," Lucy said with a sweet smile to their driver. "Y-Yes, Ma'am," Dado replied, scratching his head before speeding up the car. "Should we go back, Dado? Uncle Lando and Aunt Aura might scold us if they find out Lucy isn't with us," Cindy worriedly said to the driver as they neared the church. "Please, don't Cindy. Ma'am Lucy is scarier when she's angry than her parents. She might even have me fired. I can't afford to lose my job because my children are already studying in college," Dado quickly replied. Cindy could only sigh deeply. Her cousin is really a headache. She is about to get married but she is still giving her a headache. She will just prepare herself because when she gets out of the car later and her Aunt Aura discovers that her daughter is not with them, she will definitely be rained on with a terrifying sermon. Meanwhile, when Lucy got out of the taxi, she immediately got inside her boyfriend, Reymond's car which was parked near their house. They immediately kissed each other and then laughed loudly. "I'm really impressed with you, Lucy. You're amazing. You outsmarted your cousin. Now, she's the one who is going to marry that useless Adam," Reymond said with a smirk after their lips parted. "It's only right that she marries that useless guy and not me so that we can benefit from what my parents have spent on her," Lucy replied, grinning again. "Poor Cindy. She has no idea that she's wearing a wedding dress now because she's the one getting married and not me. Because she will be my substitute bride." The two of them laughed again and then shared a kiss as if it were the end of the world and they would never taste each other's lips again. When their lips parted, they both panting and out of breath. "Call your parents now so they won't be surprised when they see your cousin wearing a wedding dress. And so they have no choice but to replace Cindy as the bride," Reymond told Lucy with a wide smile. Lucy immediately followed her boyfriend's. She called her mother and told her that she wouldn't be able to attend her own wedding. Aura was furious when she found out about her child's actions, but she couldn't show her anger because she was worried that the people inside the church might notice. But deep inside, she is very furious. She doesn't know how she would tell the guests and especially the groom's family that her daughter suddenly backed out from the wedding. The support from Adam's family that they are aiming for will surely be canceled. "Don't worry, Mom. The wedding will still push through but I am no longer the bride. Just wait for her because she's on her way," said Lucy before quickly turning off her cell phone. On the other hand, Cindy arrived at the front of the church. Despite being hesitant, she still got out of the car. "The bride is here! Let the wedding begin!" Cindy's eyes widened when she heard the voice of a man running towards the inside of the church. It seemed like she was mistaken for the bride. Well, who wouldn't think that she is the bride if they see her wearing a wedding dress? Two women suddenly approached Cindy and quickly pulled her towards the door of the church. She suddenly panicked when she heard the loud sound of the wedding march. She was about to open her mouth to speak and say that they made a mistake because she was not the bride, but someone suddenly stood beside her and took her hand. When she looked to see who it was, she saw her Uncle Lando smiling, then he pulled her to walk towards the man who was sitting in a wheelchair and looking in front. "What does this mean, Uncle Lando? I'm not the bride but your daughter," Cindy whispered to her uncle as they continued walking on the red carpet. "Lucy won't be able to come anymore because she eloped with her boyfriend," her uncle emphatically replied to her, but a wide smile never left his lips. Cindy suddenly stopped walking and stared at her Uncle Lando. She was trying to determine if he was telling the truth or just teasing her. When she confirmed that he was serious, her face turned pale. "Uncle Lando," Cindy uttered with tears welling up, she just realized what she was about to do. "This wedding cannot be canceled, Cindy. Maybe this is the time for you to repay your debt of gratitude to me," Lando replied, subtly bringing his mouth closer to Cindy's ear, then gently pulling his niece to continue walking towards the groom. Cindy feels like a robot who would not move if she's not guided by her uncle's hand. She still can't believe what's happening. She just realized that Lucy planned everything. That's why she let her wear a wedding dress because Lucy planned to let her as a substitute bride and marry her to the groom. She regrets that she didn't think earlier that Lucy was planning to escape from the wedding when she stopped Dado and said that she forgot her wedding bouquet. Lucy knows that the wedding cannot be canceled so her parents will have no choice but to let her be the substitute bride, especially since she's already wearing a wedding dress. Lucy also knows that she cannot refuse her Uncle Lando when he tells her to marry Adam because of her huge debt of gratitude to him. Lucy's plan is perfect. When they arrived in front of the groom who was sitting in a wheelchair, Cindy tightly closed her eyes to prevent her tears from falling. She took a deep breath before opening her eyes. To her surprise, she saw that her groom and the man in a wheelchair whom she bumped inside the supermarket were the same person. Is this some kind of a joke with her or is this called fate?
