CHAPTER 2

CHAPTER TWO I tried to keep my head focused in school but by the time gym class rolled in, I was feeling like my brain cells were getting fried from all the thinking and worrying. A part of me was pretty scared of Ronald showing up out of nowhere and probably doing something irrational. I hadn’t seen him since I almost cut him into tiny pieces. The full moon hadn’t appeared yesterday like it should have but at least that saved me from the turning. I had no idea how dangerous I can be when I turn, so I was certainly not looking forward to it either.   “What are you thinking about?” I gave a small start, turning around with a hand on my heart. Anger flashed inside me when I saw who as standing in front of me but I was quick to dig my nails into my palm, managing to calm myself down before I spiraled out of control.   “Nothing much,” I said, shifting my focus from him to the students getting divided into pairs. Ugh! Not dodgeball again. That was my least favorite game and if I didn’t up with the ball on my face a couple times, then I would count myself lucky.   “Don’t tell me it’s about the coming red moon,”   “Red mo-“before I could finish, I was suddenly grabbed by the wrist and jerked away from Ian pretty roughly.   “What the hell Chase?” I cussed at the perpetrator but he didn’t answer as he pulled me out of class not carina out the death glare the gym teacher, Mrs. Hudson was giving us, dragging me across the deserted hallway into the music room.   “What?” I questioned. Instead of answering, he began pacing to and from, not looking at me with one hand caressing his chin while the other fell over the arc of his waist.   “Why can’t you stay from Lucian even though you know what you can do to him?” he finally questioned or more like snapped.   “I love Lucian and your squeaky efforts to make us part ways, is only making me love him more. So just stop, Chase. You are the one who is lying to an innocent girl that dreams of a together with you without knowing who you really are. If you don’t tell Peggy the truth, I’ll her myself tonight. It may not be my truth to tell but I don’t want to see my cousin get hurt anymore my your selfishness,” I pointed out and I sure as hell meant it.   “Look, Peggy can wait but my friend’s death by you is the most important part right now,”   Out of growing aggravation, I slapped him hard on the cheek,” You had the nerve to use her like that and now you say that she can wait? Do you have any idea of how a heart works? Own up to your mistakes and stop deflecting on me. I’m not your puppet to play games with,” He was really not making it any easy for me to keep my temper in check.   “Ugh! Why don’t you get it? You are f*****g dangerous and with the coming red moon, you are going to release so many demons into our world,”   “I’m really not in the mood to listen to you Chase. I’m off to class,” I turned around, walking towards the exit but he spoke, making me stop for a second or more.   “You are just mad because I’m the only who can see you for who you really are,” His words stung deep for some reason.   “Tell Peggy the truth or else this time I won’t spare your life,” I said instead before walking out, blindly hurrying towards the washrooms.   “Damn Chase,” I muttered under my breath, vigorously washing my hands while refusing to bawl out in frustration at the reflection of myself on the mirror above the sink. I just wanted a normal life but apparently that was too much to ask.   “What did he do?” I froze for a second and when I turned around Peggy was standing by the door of the washrooms, hands crossed with a hint of vulnerability hinted in her pupils.   “Who?” I questioned confused.   “When Chase dragged you out of class, I followed you. You said he was using me,” Her voice was slightly shaky as she advanced closer to where I was,” What did Chase do that you’d threaten not to spare his life if he didn’t tell me truth?”   Bloody bullocks.   “He should be the one to tell you, not me,”   “Cut me the crap Faith. Tell me the truth because Chase has been acting so weird of lately and I’m tired of trying to piece the puzzle of what is going on,”   “But Chase-“   “Now Faith,” she demanded.   “Fine. He is sleeping with Miss. Vasquez and using you as cover up. He knows if people see him with you, they wouldn’t think he was sleeping with our French teacher,” I blurted out.   Several seconds rolled by as she stared at me blankly before she muttered softly,” What?”   “Chase doesn’t like you cousin. He was just using you because he is freaking asshole and I’m very sorry that he hurt you in the process,”   “Can you stop lying Faith? Chase likes me and he’d never sleep with Miss. Vasquez. Do you have any idea how many times he had ranted about hating her?” The denial, of course.   “She is right Peggy,” Chase muttered as he appeared in the girl’s washrooms.   “What?” she turned around.   “I’m sorry Peggy,”   “No, this has to be some twisted pre-Halloween prank. Look, I’m just…I can’t…S-Stop with the lies both of you,” she stuttered before running out of the washrooms.
