CHAPTER 2

MOLLY’S POV Sunday was finally here and I was excited to attend the wedding renewal of Lenny’s parents which was going to be followed by an after party at their mansion. I crossed my fingers that I would have a good time since I never knew much about Lenny or her family. What if the party was going to be lame yet I have even gone an extra mile to buy a white pair of stilettos and a baby pink dress for the event? Superficially, Lenny seemed to have come from a rich family but I can’t be sure of that yet. You cannot judge a book by its cover, right? I did my own makeup. I had mastered the art of doing my makeup as a way of trying to forget about what happened to my dad. No, I can’t be thinking about him right now. I don’t want to cry. This will ruin my mascara. I am not supposed to be sad yet this is the only day that I have been counting on to give me happiness that I have lacked for a couple of months ever since the horrible incident happened to us. I sighed in deeply watching my chest drop as I exhaled and this worked perfectly to remove all those bad energy that had started building up in me. I took my signature red lipstick and gave my lips one last touch before I could see the perfection that I was looking for. “Perfect,” I said smiling as I stared at myself in the mirror. Lenny had promised to pick me up and she is actually going to be here in the next five minutes. I wore my shoes and sprayed my body with the strawberry scented perfume which had been my signature perfume for so long. I was ready to step out and wait for Lenny in the Porsche when I recalled of something. There was one item missing to make this outfit complete and I knew what it was. I quickly dived into my closet wishing that I had not left it at home. In frustration, I quickly pulled out some of my cloths but my mood instantly changed when I saw it. The gold detailed box contained the necklace my dad gave to me, right before…right before… I forced a smile telling myself that it would be well just as my therapist told me and it kind of worked. I walked to the mirror and carefully placed the silver necklace with a star around my neck. “This is it,” I said happily before going back to staff my cloths back to the closet. I was going to arrange them later on. Grabbing my silver Gucci bag that matched my necklace, I was good to go. Just as I stepped out of the hostels, I saw Lenny pull up and this made me so happy. I waved at her with a smile as I rushed to join her in the car. “OMG! You are so pretty. You make me feel so underdressed,” Lenny complimented me. “Thank you,” I said with a yellow smile. “Wait, please don’t tell me that you are going to your parent’s vow renewal with a jumpsuit,” No, this was not going to happen in my watch. Lenny needed to dress up. She needed to be perfect. “Come on Molly, it is not that serious,” She said as she skillfully reversed out of the parking lot. “Are you kidding me? This is your parent’s wedding renewal. You need to dress up like the princess that you are. You need to go all out for them,” I explained but she remained silent. “What?” Are you going to ignore me now?” I asked as she steered the car to the second lane. “It is just that I don’t have a friend to do my make-up and help me find a nice outfit,” She said in a low tone. “Come on, don’t say that. I am literally here for you,” I tried to assure her. “Really? Why does it seem like we are close but not too close,” She chuckled. “What do you mean by that?” I narrowed my eyebrows at her as she kept on driving the car. “Molly, we have been friends for two months yet I know nothing about you. I don’t know of your hometown, your parent’s, your favourite food, your past relationships. You are always changing the topic when I start talking about all this things, I need to know you better,” Lenny was actually telling me the truth and I literally didn’t know how to switch the topic just like the way I normally do. “See, this is what I am talking about. When I start talking about your personal things, you suddenly go silent on me. This is not working. I think that I am forcing our friendship. I don’t want to be that girl who looks desperate…” Lenny said as she took the Lavington road. Wait, do you mean that they are from Lavington Estate? Heck, this is the same place where the most successful business people live. The likes of Chris the Billionare, our cabinet secretaries and even the speaker of the national assembly. “Great, so you are going to ignore me completely?” Lenny implored after I remained silent for quite sometime. “Oh, I am so sorry,” I quickly apologized. “Is there anything that you want to say, maybe?” Lenny asked me. “I love fish and chips.” I said with a warm smile. “Really?” She implored. “Yea. My dad loved fish and therefore my mum would try different fish recipes that were so delicious. This made me love fish.” I decided to be honest with her about what my favourite food is. “Talking of your dad, how is he?” She asked and all of a sudden, my mood changed. She reminded me of my past…. “Let us not talk about that. I can’t do it,” I quickly mumbled. “Okay, how about your mum?” She asked with a smile as we took the road with very beautiful houses. “Lenny, please. Let us do this, one day at a time. I have already told you of my favourite food. That should be enough.” I said. “Wait, is there something deep that you are hiding from me?” She questioned.
