CHAPTER 3

854 Words
MOLLY’S POV We remained silent for the remaining part of the ride till she pulled up at a black gigantic gate. The premises was fenced with brick walls and on top of that was an electric fence. “Wow, I didn’t know that you lived in Lavington Estate, “I started a conversation but Lenny totally ignored me. She was still mad at me. “Come on Lenny I promise that I will be honest with you. It is just that I need more time. I have been betrayed by the people I cared about so much and this has given me a lot of trust issues. You are a good friend of minr and you deserve to know everything about me. I am so sorry that I am making you go through all this.I will do better...” I begged her as the gate automatically opened itself after she inserted some sort of card. “I am tired of waiting Molly. Or rather go ahead and tell me what do you want me to do so that you can trust me...” She suggested. “You are doing everything the right way. I swear. I am the one with the issue, but I promise to change,” I told her as we parked right in front of a state white house. I am calling it a Whitehouse because it has everything it takes to own that title. Lenny’s parent’s house was designed in a modern farmhouse style with 1.5 acres of land, eight car garage, covered patios, a guesthouse, movie theatre, gym, a lounge and an office. At least that is what Lenny told me as we got into the house. “I didn’t know that your family is rich,” I confessed. “Wait, does that matter to you?” She turned to face me as she asked that question. “No, of course not,” I lied. Honestly, I valued wealth more than anything. I always believe that money will buy me happiness. I was not raised with a lot of things and that is why I had promised myself to seek for more. Actually right now, I have more gusto look for wealth because I am being blackmailed and I am running out of time. They need me to give a lot of money yet I have nothing with me at the moment. I have some money in my account though but that is my inheritance. I was never going to touch that money until the people…No, I should not be talking about my dad. Not now. “Wait here, let me get the keys to my room,” Lenny said as she pointed on an empty seat that was on the hallway. The hallway was wide. Upon the walls were some photographs that I could barely see since they were at some distance away from where I was seated. The floor was an old-fashioned parquet with a blend of deep homely browns and the walls were greens of summer gardens meeting a bold white baseboard. The bannister was a twirl of branch, tamed by the carpenter’s hand, its grain flowing as water might, in waves of comforting woodland hues. Under the lamp-shine it was nature’s art, something that soothed right to the soul. My mind was blown by this huge parrot painting and I couldn’t resist my temptation to go and have a closer look. I maintained a close eye at the painting as I walked towards it that I didn’t notice someone coming towards me. By the time I knew it, I had bumped into some guy, scattering the papers that were in his file all over the place. “Oh my goodness, I am so sorry,” I quickly apologized as I bent to pick the papers. “No, don’t touch that,” The man said in a harsh voice before walking over to where I stood so as to pick the paper. “Sir,” The guy had hardly looked at me so I decided to engage with him. He was so angry at me and I really needed to ensure that he was okay. “How can I help…?” He couldn’t complete his statement as soon as my eyes met his. His jaw suddenly dropped and he stared at me as if I was an angel that had just landed in the room. I knew that look. Someone had given me the same look when I gave love a chance. He was about to speak to me when suddenly Lenny pulled my hand and dragged me down the hall. “What are you doing?” I was mad at Lenny for ruining the beautiful moment that I just had. “Why are you talking to that guy?” She scolded me. “Is there any problem with that?” I didn’t understand why Lenny was acting like this. “That guy is my uncle Edward and you should not even think about getting close to him let alone talk to him.” Lenny warned me. “Why?” I was so curious to know.
