4. The Moon Goddess

1716 Words
***Luca*** I knew I was dreaming, but Nate and I walked into a meadow at the peak of midnight.  The moon was shining brightly in the sky without a cloud in sight.  You could see the shadows of the trees and the stars shining brightly in the night’s sky above.  We walked along a pathway that led up a small hill towards a large willow tree that rested right at the peak.  The closer we became to the tree, I could see two wolves sitting patiently off to the side of the tree waiting for us to reach them.  They seemed familiar and yet different somehow, like under the bright moonlight, their fur seemed to give off a light bluish glow.  Something about them, looked familiar from a distance and I was not alarmed or worried at all.  A small gust of wind blew in our direction from the wolves to us and I became confused because they smelt like us.  I looked over at Nate, who looked just as confused as I was smelling ourselves at the top of the hill.  They sat on their hind legs tall and proud- unmoving, just waiting for us to arrive.  I could not smell or feel anything that would cause me to be alarmed or worried.  It wasn’t until we came a little closer before I realized that it was us sitting at the top in our wolf forms but somehow, we were now different.  How in the goddess have we separated from our wolves and why do we look different?  We were always white, but we seemed to glow...When we reached the top of the hill, we stopped just before reaching them.  A bright flash came from the corner of my eye so fast and was gone by the time I had a chance to move my head in that direction.  A blank space just a moment ago, now filled with the most beautiful woman with long silver flowing hair and delicate features I had ever seen.  She stood nearly 6 feet tall, with broad powerful shoulders and long arms and legs.  She took my breath away the moment my eyes laid on her and yet she gave off a power so strong, even I bowed my head to her.  When I raised my eyes, she too had a very tall white wolf by her side, sitting on its hind legs and looking at our wolves with such love and admiration.  Almost like a longing of not seeing a loved one in many years.  When the moon goddess spoke, it sounded like the softest, loving lullaby that was just music to my ears, calming my whole body, mind and sole. “Hello my beautiful children.  I have been looking for you for so long!”  She began with tears in her eyes and I could feel her heart was true.  The connection I felt to her was one thousand times stronger than what Nate and I had and I knew instantly, that I would go or do anything she ever asked of me because this was my goddess!  After giving us a few moments to let our minds catch up with us, she continued “I do not visit my children often, but after so many years of not knowing where you were, I had to come now that I could sense you again.  You may notice that your wolves may look and feel different to you now.  This may be hard for you to hear, but you were both kidnapped when you were just day old pups and no one has been able to find you since.  I believe that there was some very strong magic hiding you from all of us and hindering your strength and power.  You are both very important to me and the future of wolves around the world.  I urge you to find the Spirit Wolf Pack.  There, you will find all of the answers that you are seeking, but you will not be able to find them until you finish lifting the curse that was set upon you both and still looming over you.  Without doing that, it will slowly kill you both.  Please, seek out a witch named Aurora in the Whispering Winds coven.  They, but more importantly she will be able to lift the remnants of the curse in order for you to continue.  Look for her in Clearwater.  Good luck my children and when in doubt, trust your wolves and their instincts.” The moon goddess shone brightly in the night, giving off a feeling of a warm hug before she and her wolf disappeared before our eyes.  One would think you would feel the cold chill from them no longer being there, but I still felt her warmth like she had wrapped us up in blankets holding us tight, soothing us even though she had already parted.  We turned back to our wolves and even though I noticed the light blue glow from them before, I could now feel their strength and power.  My eyes moved down towards their chests and I saw that they both had a shining pendant on a chain around their necks in the shape of a tear that set off it’s own glow.  To see them like this seemed like an out of body experience as we were raised to believe that we were one being.  I was not sure what to think or say because I was in shock.  To wait for words to be spoken would be foolish, but maybe this was a key to why Nate and I always felt so different from what we were raised to believe. Our wolves now stood together on all four legs and slowly made their way to us so that they did not startle us in any way.  They were both white and looked identical, my wolf now had bright, silver eyes while Nat’s wolf had more of a steel grey that was slightly dulled.  I thought back to the last time we shifted and recalled Nat’s eyes being black, but I shook off the thought as I needed to focus on the here and now.  I opened my mind and senses to everything around me and I could feel them both.  The moon goddess was right, they (we) were much stronger then what I have come to know all of these years.  It was though I was more than twice as strong as my father.  But he was not my father after all and he was just a liar, a kidnapper and a man I will kill for what he has done.  Anger began to fill me as the realization of everything the moon goddess processed in my head.  My wolf moved closer and gave a slight whimper before pushing his muzzle under my hand.  He was trying to keep me calm and focused.   I knew that this might be a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to see our wolves like this, so I knelt down to be on the same level as they were.   ‘Why hello there.  You are both even more amazing then what I have known.  I can imagine the curse hurt both of you more than it did to us.  We will make this right, I promise you this!  But I think we should follow the moon goddess’s advice and fix this curse problem before it’s too late.’  speaking to all through the mind link.  I was not sure if it would work or if I was just talking to Nate alone.  I imagined that I sounded nuts to him, but I had to try something.   Nate had knelt down beside me and both wolves nuzzled up to us.  The moment they made contact, I felt everything that they were feeling.  There was so much hurt and pain from the years of being locked away.  It was as if only a small fragment of each of them had been allowed to come forward when we began shifting.  Each and every time we shifted, it was like tearing them apart, leaving more then half of themselves behind while a small part of them was allowed to come forward and shift.  I dropped and shook my head as a tear escaped the corner of my eye.  Feeling their pain and how much we had hurt them felt like I was ripping my own heart out.  They did not blame us however.  They had nothing but love and admiration for both of us and they were over the moon relieved that we had finally allowed them to be free.   ‘Once it is safe, we will shift and let you be free for the first time!  I am sorry this happened to you both as well and I would have done something sooner if I had known you were being tortured.’ If the moon goddess was right, we shouldn’t linger too long before we kept moving.  We needed to get this curse off of us before it killed us.  Our wolves have just been released from what felt like a cage through our connection and I will be damned if I let anything happen to either of them again.  As soon as I made up my mind to let go of the anger and resentment (for now) to focus on our task, our wolves stepped back and sank down to the ground as though they were preparing to lunge.  Without any warning, and almost too quick for my eyes to register, they both lunged straight at us.  There was no impact or strain, they were reconnecting with us again and when my wolf joined me, I began to feel all of his (our) power joining together as one.  I could also feel this curse that the goddess was speaking about,  It was like a little black rain cloud on a sunny day, but looking over at Nate, I quickly saw that he had less time than I did.  The curse seemed to be more on him then myself.  I could feel that he was in much more imminent danger and decided that we needed to get moving, fast!
