3.Friend

Freya pov

A soft voice wakes me up.

"Freya? Are you awake?"

I open my eyes to be met with a small smile. Jack was next to my bed, holding my hand.

"Hi, Jack!" I looked when I realised I was on an actual bed. Then I remember Cole being beaten.

"How's Cole? Where is he?!"

"He is fine, Freya! He got out of the infirmary yesterday. You should worry about yourself!"

"Yesterday? Have I been out since yesterday? You beat the s**t out of me then!"

He scratches his head, looking down.

"This was three days ago..."

"What? Three days? F**k! It looks like this wolfsbane starts affecting me more than before."

"Wolfsbane? What do you mean."

"What do I mean? Are you serious?! They give us wolfsbane to keep us from shifting. Not enough to kill our wolves, as they need us to heal after fighting, but enough to not be able to go. Didn't you wonder why there are no wolves? No one shifts, Jack!"

"F**k! What kind of alpha do that?!"

"The Alpha rogue, Samuel does! Welcome to my life!"

"But... are you able to speak with your wolf?"

"Well... I am! But I think I'm the only one apart from Samuel. My wolf is quite stubborn!" I said, chuckling.

"Did they not inject you yet?" He shakes his head.

"Good! Cause we need to get out of here!"

"What?! Are you insane? Didn't you see what he did to Cole just because he refused to follow his orders? Imagine what he will do if he finds out that we want to run away!"

"I know, Jack! But I've been living in this hell hole all my life! I want to be free! With or without your help, I'll go!"

I get off of bed and head to the bathroom. I can enjoy a hot shower now!

I change my clothes and get out. Jack wasn't here anymore. Maybe he is a coward after all.

I made my way out of the infirmary and walked towards Cole's tent. I need to check on him.

He was outside, sitting on a tree trunk and puffing a cigarette. I slam his hand, making him let go of it.

"That will kill you one day!" I said, putting my hands on my hips.

He jumps on his feet and hugs me.

"Kid! You're awake! I was so worried about you! Don't do that again! It was so stupid of you to take my place! You know I won't forgive myself if something happens to you!"

"Cole, I'm fine! You know me good enough to know I won't stay and watch that asshole beating you to death!"

"I know, kid, I know! I'm sorry! I should have listened..."

"No, Cole! Don't be sorry! We are both fine now!"

He kissed my head, then pulled away to look at me.

"Come inside! You need to eat something! I can make you an omelette." I nodded my head and followed him.

We both ate in silence. His food is always so delicious.

"Cole! I need to talk to you!"

He lifts his head and nods at me.

"We need to get out of here! It's getting worse! They would have been killed you if it wasn't for Jack to tell me what's going on."

"Jack?" He asked, lifting an eyebrow.

"Aaa! Your friend? Yeah! I like him! He's a good guy!"

"He is not my friend, Cole!"

"Aham... Is he coming with us?"

"I'm not sure! He left without saying either yes or no. So I guess not! But this is not what we need to talk about right now! We need a plan!"

"When do you want to do this, kid?"

"Tonight!"

"So quickly? You're not even healed! You should rest first!"

"I've been resting for three days, Cole! Plus, they will put me fight again and again! I won't be able to sleep! You know that!"

His eyes softened, and he looked down.

"I know, kid! I'm sorry I bought you here! Maybe if I didn't have found you, you would be in a better place now!"

"Don't be sorry! You saved me! We both know I will be long dead if it wasn't for you!" I said and went to hug him.

"Hugging time!" I hear Jack voice and feel his arms wrapping around me!

"I knew you'd be here!"

I get up and push him away.

"Take your f*****g hands off of me, or I'll break them!"

Cole chuckled, and Jack puts his hands in the air, showing his 'surrender'.

"Ok, ok! Calm down, princess!"

"Don't call me 'princess', you a****e! What do you want?"

"Ok, friend! I'm in!"

"What?"

"I'm in! I'm coming with you! But you'll consider me your friend! When are we leaving?"

I look at him for a moment before nodding at him.

"Ok. I'll try. We are leaving tonight! Be ready by midnight! I'll meet you at the back of The Arena. Do not take any unnecessary things with you! We don't need anything that slows us down!" They both nodded their heads, and I left.

....

It was 11:30 pm. I put a bottle of water in my backpack and a few sandwiches. I don't know how long it will take for my body to eliminate all the wolfsbane from my system. So before I can shift and hunt, I need something to eat.

I have my fighting outfit on, this being the most comfortable clothes I have, and my hair was up in a ponytail. I grabbed the backpack and carefully made my way to the meeting point.

Most people were sleeping. Just a few of the Alpha's guards walked through the campus.

Luckily they won't notice me.

When I get in the back of The Arena, I see Jack and Cole waiting for me. I nod at them, and they do the same! Then we start running to the forest.

The border was like twenty minutes away. This was the most challenging part! I knew as soon as we stepped out of this territory, it would be easier for us. So I push as hard as I can.

"Come on, Cole! Just a bit more! I can see the border!" I whisper yell, turning back to grab Cole's hand.

I started pulling him after me, but we froze in our tracks when an ear-deafening scream filled the air.

I look at Jack to see a silver knife stuck in his left tight.

I let go of Cole and ran towards him.

"Jack!"

"Run, Freya! Run!" He said to me. But before I could make up my mind, I felt something pricking my arm.

My body immediately starts to feel numb, and I look to see a tranquilliser arrow. My vision blurred, and I fell to the ground.

"Did you think you could run away from me, b***h?!" Came Samuel voice before he kicked me in my stomach.

"Take them to the dungeons!"
