Chapter 2

-Diana's POV- ...Marco. I like it. I give him a smile. "I heard...there was a job position open?" Obviously, this is a lie. I am hoping that I get that right. He looks a bit confused. "Job? Not a student?..." He says and then mutters. "...how old are you?... you must look younger than you are, then." "Hehe, I get that all the time but yes, I am older than I look." I tell him with a nervous laugh. I have never been great at lying. I tend to always speak the truth so this will be hard for me. "You also..." His eyes go up and down my body, examining what I am wearing. "Uhm... is that... how you always dress?" He asks. Darn, I still look weird then. "What?... you are discriminating because of my... clothing choice?" I say trying to play the innocent and offended card. He quickly shakes his head. "No... but... for goddess sake... don't tell me that you like horror stuff too?" Poor guy looks almost traumatized. "Uhm... no. Why?" I ask confused. He looks at my chest but quickly looks up at my face. "Your shirt." "I..." He says but I can see just a bit of flushness on his cheeks. What the hell do I say? I don't even know what this shirt is all about. "N-not at all. This is not mine." His eyebrow lifts up and now looks like he has questions. "Not yours?" "I...hehe... funny story. I spilled juice on my clothes and this is all I could find at the moment cause my...luggage... got...lost." He stares at me for a few seconds before he speaks. "Lost?' I nod trying to look as innocent as possible. He continues to stare at me and it makes me a bit nervous when he is silent. "Are you a witch?" He suddenly asks. I immediately nod. "N...no." There is so much more to me. Of course, he doesn't need to know that...yet. "If you are not a witch... then what are you? You do... know what this school is?" I nod. "Yes." "And why is it that you know this?" "Uhm... I... am a Nymph!" I almost shouted the lie. "A what?" "A Nymph... you know... they are... almost like fairies? But not really." I say. His face scrunches in displeasure and I can hear him curse under his breath. "Of course. Just my damn luck." I can tell that he has had dealings with fairies and they are naughty in nature. I thought that was a good idea but now I know I need to water this down because he does not look happy about it. I put a hand up. "But we are not like fairies! We are... kind by nature and live to protect nature." He suddenly starts clicking his fingers on his desk where there is a rectangular box with letters. He looks at the TV in front of him and looks like he is reading. I am completely sure he is reading something when he starts to narrate out loud. "Nymphs... are minor female nature deities. They are generally regarded as personifications of nature and are usually depicted as maidens. They were immortal." He lifts an eyebrow up when he mentions the immortal part. "Uhm... not immortal. That is not true..." It is in my case but he doesn't need to know that at the moment. He claps his hands together under his chin and stares at me. "I have never met a Nymph before... will you be causing me trouble?" I immediately shake my head. "No. I would never." He nods looking just a bit satisfied. "Then yes, we are looking for someone to fill out a librarian position." He says. "Then perfect!" I cheer. He puts a hand up. "I am serious, I don't need any more trouble from anyone." "I will not be trouble. I can assure you." He nods. "Alright...you'll fit in just right. Do you have knowledge of how to run a library?" I nod and sit on the chair closest to me. "Yes, I do. One of my sisters owns a library." I say. Or rather, she actually lives in one. It's her home. "Then like I said, you'll fit in just fine." I nod. "Perfect then!" As he looks like he goes deep in though, my eyes roam the room. It is a typical headmaster's office but looks very manly. Not a woman's touch at all but there is something that does stand out for me because it looks out of place. There is a shelves behind him on the wall with school items and trophies but there is also a small gnome figurine. One that looks like it belongs in a garden. My eyes go back to Marco but my question about it dissipates when I see him looking distressed. He closes his eyes and massages the spot between his eyes over his nose. I can tell he looks very tired. "Are you okay?" I ask in a soft tone. "I am fine." He quickly replies. "How did you hear about us specifically?" "Uhm..." I am caught like a deer in the headlights. "From... friends..." His eyes narrow and I can see that he is about to start asking me questions but thankfully he is interrupted. "Have you seen Leon and Cole!!!" A woman rams through the door looking desperate. "Leon and Cole? They should be in their rooms by now." Marco says. "No! MY LEON AND COLE!" "Those damn spiders are loose! You better find them!" Marco shouts. “I am tryyyiiing!” She whines almost like she wants to cry. “I swear if someone squishes one of them, I’LL KILL THEM!” She turns and suddenly realizes that I am there. "Oh!... Hi!" That is all she says and then rushes out of the office. I look at Marco a bit confused by what just happened. He clears his throat. "That was Abigail. You'll... get used to the madness around here if you stay long enough." I nod, understanding that things here will be chaotic by the way his face contorted, and I almost want to laugh. As he looks at me, his eyes suddenly widen. I follow his eyes to my shoulder where I see a big black spider. “Don’t move. And please, whatever you do, don’t kill it.” He says. Seems to me that he thinks that I will panic. I put my hand close to the spider and it walks right up to my hand. “Hey, little fella.” I am not afraid of animals and I am pretty good with them but not like my younger sister, Hecate. She can feel animals' feelings and understand them in a way. My sisters and I all have unique abilities that we were born with. We are also shifters meaning that we can all turn into a specific animal. For me, is a wolf. I am not a werewolf and so I don't possess a wolf's soul. I can only shift into a wolf and have the wolf's abilities when I am in that form. But I am no normal-looking wolf and that is why I keep that side of me under wraps as much as possible when I am out of the comforts of the forest. I get up from my chair and walk over to the desk. I take out the old dead flowers from the clear vase that sits on Marcos's desk and put the spider inside, making sure first that there is no water in there. “So, when do I start?” I ask him. “You are going to be a weirdo too, aren't you?” He mutters as he looks at the spider and then at me. I gasp, surprised that he said that. I mean, he is not wrong. I am sure that many things I do will seem weird to him. But he didn’t have to say it like that. He sighs. “I apologize. I am afraid that I have gotten too used to the people and the madness in this place.” He says. He opens a drawer on his desk and takes out a key. “Here. The key to your room, unless you are already staying somewhere in the city?” I quickly take it because I was just about to go back to the forest and sleep there but a room here sounds much more convenient. “I just arrived today so no, I have nowhere else.” I reply. He nods. “Come see me first thing in the morning. I’ll give you a rundown on how things work around here.” With a smile, I nod. “Thank you! Have a good night.” I say as I walk out but as I reach the door, I turn and give him another smile. “You have beautiful eyes, by the way.” I am in no way a flirt. I am the kind of person that just says what they think and sometimes that can definitely get me in trouble but it is in my nature. I am a very honest person and I am not afraid to show my emotions. This is in no way a moon-daughter trait. Some of my sisters have questionable...integrity. A few of my sisters in particular come to mind but it is not the time for that. Marco’s eyes widen and his face goes to that of shock. His mouth opens but he has nothing to say. I giggle. “Good night.” I say again and this time leave. I look at the number of the key as I walk through the hall. Soon I find the room. I unlock it and go right in. It is a nice normal clean room. But I hate it. There is nothing wrong with it... or maybe everything is wrong with it. I look up at the ceiling. I am used to sleeping with the night sky and Mother over me so this won't do. I sigh. “Time to re-arrange." I go directly to the only window in the room. It is a wide window. Like if there were two windows in one. I open it, letting the night air in and immediately take it in with a deep inhale. There is a long table under the window which I move out of the way and then go to the bed and start moving it. I pull and push until it is right under the window. I stand back, look at it, and nod. “Perfect.” Now I turn around and look at the room. There are two doors besides the one I came in from. I open one and find a small closet. I open the other one and there is a bathroom. “Ooh! Just what I needed!” I take all my clothes off and immediately get in the shower. “Wow... I forgot how good this felt.” I mutter. The last time I showered with warm water was when I was last in the human city. I close my eyes and almost get lost in the relaxing feeling. I definitely am feeling relaxed and ready for bed. I get out of the shower and dry up with a towel. I look down at my dirty clothes. “I have to wash these.” Just because I have lived in the forest for years doesn’t mean I am a dirty person. I always kept my clothes clean, washing them myself in the river. I turn the bath on and let the water fill. When is halfway, I throw my clothes in and add some of the hand soap I find on the sink. Naked, I go back to the room leaving the clothes to soak for a bit. I stop when I see myself in a long mirror in the corner of the room. My silver eyes—that to people can seem like they are a blue-gray color—peer at the woman standing in front of me. Long white-silver hair goes all the way to my waist. More straight than curly but still it has some waves to it. As the light of the moon hits my body, birthmarks on my skin glow a sliver blue shimmer. They swirl from my collarbone to my shoulders, there are two others under my breast and just over the belly button, and two others that run down my thigh and stop just above the knee. Markings that you can only see with the light of the moon. Markings that signify that I am a daughter of the moon. Two knocks on my door take me from the mirror. I walk out of the light of the moon that shines through the window and open the door. Marco stands there with clothes in his hand. “Oh... did I forget something?” I ask him but he is quiet, with his mouth open and looking stunned. “I...I-I-I-I...” That is all he seems to be able to say. “You...?” I say trying to urge him to get it out. “I... am... naked. I am nacked...” He says but then shakes his head. “I mean YOU! Are naked! You are naked!!”
