CHAPTER ONE
Muna’s POV “Would you like to see him?” a white bearded man stepped out of the medical room, slowly peeling the gloves from his hands as he walked towards me asked. Certainly, he was the doctor as he approached. The alpha had been sick for a while. The shroud of death hovered above him, despite efforts to save his life all proving abortive. A little wind blew across the window I looked hopelessly through, my eyes trailing birds that flew across the sky. Each one singing a beautiful note as the doctor stood behind me. The stench of medicine struck my nose before I slowly turned my gaze towards him. “Will it be okay for me to see him at this moment?” I asked as my eyes teared up. However, I dabbed at it, intent on hiding my emotions. I was not allowed to show my emotions as I was the Luna of the pack. “Being with a loved one would do more good than harm at this moment.” “You had told us the Alpha would be alright,” a middle-aged man replied huffily, as he walked towards the doctor grabbing him by the collar of his coat while he pulled the doctor towards himself, “What is this your say about his loved one having to be by his bedside doing more good than harm?” He asked, almost furious. “Let the good doctor down, Carlos,” I said, placing my hand on the man’s arm. He let go of the physician, who backed away, shrugging his shoulders to arrange his coat. “He said we should meet with him and we would do what he prescribed.” “Words like that should not apply to our Alpha, Lady Muna,” Carlos said, bringing his hands to his side before folding them across his chest. “Let’s go see him.” Carlos led the way, his hands stretching to open the door. I stood still at the door, watching the man who laid in the only bed in the room. His breath was raspy as he struggled to breathe. A hulk of a man reduced almost to a twig. “Alpha,” I called out as I stepped into the room. Tears gathered underneath my eyes as I sat before him. “Muna, Carlos,” he called hoarsely as he turned his head slowly to take a view of us. A cough seized him with the action. “You don’t have to do that,” Carlos said, stooping by his bedside to hold his hand. “Doesn’t seem I would make it.” “Don’t say that. You’re the strongest Alpha I know." “I like your faith in me. I hope it is enough to let me walk through this.” “It wouldn’t,” I muttered to myself, sitting still, as I watched the exchange between the both of them, Alpha and Beta. Carlos was his Beta, serving him in all capacity and it looked like he was going to serve him also on his deathbed. “Can I see the Alpha alone?” I asked, watching Carlos freeze, his hold on the Alpha slowly come undone. “That’s no issue,” the alpha whizzed. “I would love to have a few moments with my mate.” Carlos nodded a head to his master’s order, giving me a nod also before he stepped out of the room. The room was serene, only his wheezing as I walked to the door, closing it shut. “It seems I’ve come to the end of my journey,” The Alpha coughed as he spoke, his voice rattling like his vocal box could not control the vibrations. “I hope it was worth it.” I answered him after checking, making sure we were alone in the room, “Do you remember me?” “You are my wife, my mate. I do not understand the reason you have to ask of this.” I burst out in a little chuckle, my chest heaving as I walked back to his bedside. “Time has a way of making people forget their sins if they try not to make the same mistakes over again.” I said, letting my hand trail his weakened body. I could feel him swallow his saliva, oblivious of what to happen, but certain to have an awful premonition of things to come. “I have done a lot of evil deeds in my lifetime.” “Of course you have. However, I am one product of one of your evil deeds. Pulled into the flames of war you lit up, adamant about increasing your territory.” “War is necessary for survival.” “How about those who become victims of war? Spoils taken to be plundered?” He froze as he looked at me, tethering on the brink of life or death. I held the truth the same way, on a thread for him to grasp at. “Now do you recognize?” I asked, seeing he laid back on the bed, searching his mind for distinct possibilities. “Muna.” He said with a distant look on his face, “Sounds familiar.” Because it is familiar." “The only daughter of the Alpha of Rolling Thunder’s pack.” He seemed to recall, “She is the only one who had had that name.” I let out a low laugh after he had recalled, walking towards the window. The sun was inevitably setting-birds, calling home to rest for the day. That day was no exception from a normal day, except they filled it with screams of scared people and the grunts of dying men. Werewolves fell to the ground, butchered like livestocks. Father had stood in front of the house, mother behind him as I hid under the table. Smoke from other burning house filled ours. My nose constricted, attempting to take in as much air as needed for my survival, while my eyes watered. Alpha Matt came, standing before my father, two alphas. Father was ready to make a deal to spare his people from any hurt. Alpha was taking none as claws clashed, sending both men reeling backwards from the momentum. “Run!” Father shouted, pushing mother behind him, just in time for the claw to strike. He stumbled backwards, bleeding from his chest, three claw marks imprinting themselves on his body. “Stop, please,” mother pleaded as she laid on the floor. However, Alpha Matt wasn’t taking any pleas, lashing out at my father. I stared on, watching the battle. A kick sent father’s body smashing into the other side of the house. Alpha Matt stood in front of mother as she laid on the floor pleading for mercy, a sly smile on his face. I close my mouth with my palm to stifle any scream attempting to escape as his hand rammed into mother, her pleas soon dying on her lips as she breathed her last. “Remember when my father came running, cursing loudly as he lunged at you, blinded by anger and fury for what you have done to my mother?” I asked as I pulled myself from my thoughts. “I had shown no mercy.” “No, you did not.” I said, your claws had pierced into his throat, settling deeper into his head, came off, toppling to the ground. “And you have come as an avenger for them.” “You have guessed accurately,” I said to him, smiling as I walked towards the door. “Carlos, Carlos, Seth,” he said, his voice, his voice high, however, how he screamed. I laughed at his attempt, walking towards the door. “No one is going to hear you screams,” I said, cackling as he wheezed. His death was one I had always looked forward to. A payment for the death of my people. I had stepped out of the rubble, a decapitated father, my mother’s entrails sprayed over the ground. I couldn’t cry as I stepped over their mutilated bodies. “Who are you?” A member of Alpha Matt’s guards had called out as I stepped out of the house. I had lied to his face, an omega, I had called myself, wearing inwardly to my dead parents and my pack to avenge their pain. However, here I was, standing before the source of our pain, on his deathbed that I had orchestrated for him.
