Bill woke up the third day. He had slept for 72 hours. While he slept, he spoke in strange languages. His eyes changing to white whenever he flicks his eyes open. But he flickered it shut to fall back asleep. Although he looked peaceful while he slept, Victoria worried about her son. She marveled at the way he gestured with his hands while talking in his sleep. “Did you hear that?” Victoria and Andrew rushed into their son’s room but stopped in their stride as soon as they entered the room. The room furniture and other items rose midair and moved in circles as Bill spoke in his sleep. Puzzled, the two of them stared, unsure of what to do. At that moment, Derrick screamed. Caught between the deep red sea, Victoria rushed to Bill’s side while Andrew rushed out of the room. He rushed to check on his last son. “Are you alright, Bill?” Victory searched Bill’s body for any sign of harm. It still amazes her to witness the abilities of her young son possessed. Sitting on the edge of his bed, she watched the display of emotion on the face of her son. “You look peaceful, but I am amazed at what is going on in your head!” She touches his face, the sudden smile and warm glow on his face touched her. “I hope you’re all right, child?” She whispered as she watched her son. A moment later, she rose and walked out of his room, but left his bedroom door ajar. She wanted to watch out for the sound that comes from his room. It relieved her that Bill was asleep and looked comfortable in his sleep. After checking his temperature and contented with the outcome, she left the room. On her way back to her room, she peeked on Derrick. She needed to rest so she could wake early to look after her son. “Is he okay?” Victoria walked into Derrick’s room and found her husband already asleep on the couch. She picked the book that fell from his hand and covered him up with a duffel. Her experience these past few days was terrifying, yet amazing. Victoria walked to her room after making sure Derrick is fine. Tired, she left for her room. As soon as she lay on her bed, she slept off immediately. ************* The next morning, the entire house shook. Bill’s room illuminated with a glowing light. It was like the first time he got his abilities. Lifted midair on his bed, Bill glow, and a bright light radiated from him. Victoria was already awake and sat on Bill’s bed when the glow appeared around his son. Again, she saw her son lifted in midair. “Bill, wake up!” “Bill...” Wide-eyed, she studied her son in midair. Amazed, she watched a thrill spread through her body. At that moment, she wished her husband stayed back with her. She needed to support her through the three sleepless nights. But Andrew had to travel to his parent’s house in Nevada to support his mom and attend to any necessary paperwork. Victoria waited, patient and curious, never taking her eyes off her son. She marveled at the enormous amount of light emanating from the body of someone as small as Bill. At the moment, she remembered the words of her late father-in-law. He had mentioned the words one of those times when they visited her parents-in-law. Andrew and her had visited for Christmas. “You need to accept magic as part of life and God’s gift to humanity for you to believe in it, child!” “That’s when you can truly become part of the magic, and magic lives in everyone no matter how little it is Vicky.” Elijah Connor had told her one night at the back porch of his house. She caught him in the art of magic. Elijah conjured a Christmas light. Immediately, it appeared on his rooftop, and window hinges of his enormous mansion. Within a twinkle of an eye, the light appeared everywhere, illuminating the house. Wide-eyed from what she saw, Victoria shook her head in denial and paralyzed from shock. She knew she should hide from sight before Elijah saw her, but she couldn’t move from the spot she stood. “What the heck!” She was not the same person since that day because of what she saw. Her eyes had followed her father-in-law’s movement everywhere. Victoria wanted to catch him in the act again, so she could alert her husband. But since the encounter between the two of them at the back porch of his house, Elijah acted normal. He acted like the gentleman she knew and loved until the last night of their visit. On the last day of their stay at Connor’s family house, the family gathered together in the cozy living room. aAfter dinner, they chattered and laughed as they enjoyed a Martini red wine. Suddenly the burning wood in the firewall blew out in the carved firewall. Cold seeped through the walls and windows of the beautiful room. Victoria shivered and Immediately moved closer to Andrew for warmth. Instinctively, Elijah flicked his fingers. Without notice, the fire came up in the firewall and warmed the room. When Victoria saw what Elijah did, she sprang up from the chair and pushed Andrew away from her. This time, she was sure of what she saw. “I ain’t dreaming about this!” “What the hell is going here?” She asked, her eyes wide with shock. The first day, she had thought she imagined the event that took place at the back porch. She was sure it wasn’t her imagination. But something weird just occurred. “Will someone explain this to me?” She shouted, her eyes huge with fright. Immediately Andrew rose on his feet and walked up to her. He pulled her into his arms to calm her. “Calm down, honey.” “No dear, I won’t. What just happened here?” “Nothing happened, Vicky.” “No, Andrew. I saw Elijah used his hand to light the firewall!” “That isn’t anything!” “It’s the fire coming back to life.” He explained to her, his voice urgent but soft. He was calm and didn’t want to scare Victoria. Andrew needed to make her stop, but he was afraid to tell her. His father is a wizard. Victoria pushed away from him, backed away from everyone. She shook her head as she walked away, her mind in a frizzy. She moved to the door behind her before anyone knew what she wanted to do. Andrew realized what she wanted to do and tried to stop her. Before he could reach her, she ran towards the door. As she was about to step outside, Elijah cleared his voice. It was loud and compelling. At that instance, time froze and everyone stared at him. Even Victoria couldn’t resist the power that oozed out of him. “I am a wizard, Vicky.” “A damn good one.” “I am also a husband and a brilliant father.” He added as he looked straight into Victoria’s eyes. That got Victoria’s attention. She stared at her father-in-law for a while and deliberated on what to do. After a moment of silence in the room, she looked away from Elijah. She looked around the room, and noticed the warm glow on her mother-in-law’s face. Rose Connor looked at her husband with love, and pride shone in her beautiful eyes. Victoria saw the love that shone in her mother-in-law’s eyes and felt ashamed as she acted the way she did. She looked away from her and searched Andrew’s face. What she saw in his eyes startled her. In her husband’s eyes, Victoria noticed fear, and the panic she saw there made him look uneasy. That’s when it occurred to her... Her father-in-law is a wizard, and his family knew about it. It was too much to take at that moment. She turned, twirled to the side and ran out of the house to the cold, chilly night. Instantly, Andrew moved. He made to follow her, but Elijah stopped him. “Give her some few minutes to think and digest the news, son.” “She will come around.” Andrew wasn’t sure what his father said was the best thing to do, but he walked back. He sat down, resigned and unable to settle down. A few minutes later, he rose from the couch and walked to the tall window to look out. He was afraid Victoria might hurt herself. His eyes searched the dark surrounding of the front porch. When Elijah sensed the panic in his son, he walked to his side and placed his hand on his shoulder to calm him. “She’ll come around, son. Give her time.” As soon as Elijah said the words, the front door flung open and Victoria rushed in. She ran into the arms of Andrew and sobbed for a while. “Am so sorry my love for acting so inconsiderate.” “It’s not that I can’t accept the obvious, but I felt betrayed you didn’t trust me enough to tell me.” She looked up into her husband’s eyes and gave him a warm smile. At that moment, Elijah went to his wife’s side, placed a kiss on her lips, and whispered in her ear. “Come, love let’s give the lovebirds some moment to talk this out.” They held each other’s hands and walked away from the living room. “You should have told me, everything love.” “I have married you for three years, and I just discovered this enormous secret!” Victoria told him as she wrapped her hands around her husband’s neck. This caused a wave of relief to wash over Andrew. He held on to her as if his life depended on it. “Am so sorry Vicky, I was too afraid to tell you about my father.” He had thought he had lost Victoria, and the thought made him shivered as he held on to her. “I thought I had lost you.” “I didn’t want to lose you because my father is a wizard.” He told her and chuckled when Victoria nudged him on his arm. “Thank you for coming back to me, love.” Victoria shifted, she moved out of his arms to stare hard at him before she spoke. “Not on your life, my love.” “I will never leave you.” “It’s till death do us part.” She moved back into his arms, and Andrew kissed her with a burning passion to reassure her of his love for her. They kissed each other for some minutes. Victoria moaned as Andrew deepened the kiss. She enjoyed every moment of the beautiful kiss. ************** A sound from the direction of the ceiling jolted her out of her thoughts. A small voice called to her. “Mom.. mom.” The voice called. The loud sound bringing her back to the present. Victoria cleared her mind of the past and forced her mind back to the present. She looked at the direction the voice come from. Taken aback by what she saw, Victoria’s eyes widen in surprise. Wide-eyed, it amazes her when she saw the sight displaced up on the ceiling. Written in gold on the ceiling is a bold message for her, and Bill floated in the air, with a long gold pen in his hand. “I LOVE YOU MOM.” It overwhelmed Victoria and tears poured down her cheeks. Victoria held her chest, a swirl of love filled her heart as she stared in wonder at her eight years old son. “I love you too, child.” She wept as she continued to say the words, “I love you too, son.” A beautiful glow swirled around Bill as he lowered himself from the ceiling. Victoria moved without knowing how. It happened fast She stretched out her arms and held him to her chest as soon as his feet touched the ground. “You are one hell of a wizard boy, son. Like your grandpa.” She told him with pride. After that day, Bill acted normal. Though he still struggled with his powers, he was gentle and sensitive. ********************** It was the eighth day away from his family. Andrew missed his wife and children and wished he is with them. He needed to wait to bury his father before he came back home. His family couldn’t travel down for his father’s burial because of Bill’s unstable condition. But his best friend, John Hoffman, stayed by his side throughout the burial. He also waited for two days to support Andrew. Andrew calls his wife every hour to find out if Bill awoke. And, if they were managing well without him. His voice always left a hint of impatience at the end of every call. He wanted more than anything to be with his wife and needed to hold his children. But he feared for his mother, who is heartbroken and frail at the moment. “Dad, why do you have to die now? Why now?” “Why didn’t you let me know of your ailment?” His mother had told him Andrew died of an ailment. His father had struggled with cancer for over fifty years. But had used magic to suppress it until the moment he let go. “You shouldn’t have given up dad!” Andrew Connor inhaled, unhappiness weighed on his mind at the state he found his mother. But he couldn’t do more than what he had done for her. He hoped she would move past his father’s death and live her life.
