“Steven, why are you doing this?” William asked in his cold voice. But if one were to know him enough, one could clearly notice the sadness coming out of his breath. He was still unable to accept the fact that Steven had betrayed him and his pack until now. He couldn’t help but hope that all this was nothing but a dream. A nightmare, which would end once he opened his eyes. “Why? William, are you really asking me this question? Don’t you really know why I am doing this?” Steve stopped his sneer and asked him back seriously. William pursed his lips. Yes, he knew and he may understand his reasons a little too. But still he couldn’t accept the betrayal. He spoke back, “But now I am the Alpha. Couldn’t you wait a little longer until I make everything straight? Couldn’t you wait for me?” He could see a few emotions flash by Steve’s eyes. But before he could grasp them, Steve went back to his usual casualness as he sneered again, “Nah! William, I can’t wait any longer. It has already been too late. Now, even you can’t do anything. Even if you want to do something, it has been really too late.” He looked straight into William’s eyes and stressed the words once more, “Too late.” His words instantly made William’s eyes turn cold. The frost from them was able to freeze everything around him. The cold air made Steve shocked but he never lost his composure. “Too late?” He chuckled before continuing, “I understand everything now. It is not that anything was late. It is just that you always wanted to betray the pack. You never wanted justice. All you wanted was betrayal and power in your hands. Just by painting the words of justice on your forehead doesn’t make your actions justifiable. In the end, a betrayal is a betrayal. You betrayed the pack and you will be punished according to the rules of the pack,” William spoke each and every word coldly. He no longer wanted to listen to Steve’s words full of reasons. If he really trusted him, would he still have to betray the pack? Would he really have no time to wait for just a little longer? Steve, too, stopped giving his reasons. He chuckled too, imitating William. “You will punish me? Punish according to the pack rules?” Steve clicked his tongue while shaking his head. He started walking around William while looking at his body from his head to toes, “Look at yourself once, William. You are no longer the same William as in the past. You are not strong enough to fight me, let alone win against me. Just because you don’t show anything on your face, does it make your inability to fight vanish? No. Instead, it only makes you look more pathetic in my eyes. You are not strong enough to accept the fact that you are weak and you can not fight ever again.” The mockery in Steve’s words and his eyes made William grit his teeth. Whose fault is it that he cannot fight? Whose fault is it that he is weak now? It is all because of Steve’s backstabbing. And yet here he was, instead of feeling at least an ounce of guilt, he was mocking him and looking down on him? When did the Steve that he knew become like this? William wanted to raise his fist and give a huge punch in Steve’s face, breaking his jaw. But sadly now, he was in his human form while Steve was in his wolf form. No matter what, he had to say that his human form is always weak against a wolf, let alone Steve’s wolf form who had trained alongside him from their childhood. He could hear Steve’s mocking laugh once again, “He he he. You want to punch me in the face? Too bad you can’t transform into your wolf form now, right? Ha ha ha ha~” Of course, this man could understand what William was thinking with just a twitch on the latter’s face. But the mocking laugh from such a man is what is piercing through William’s heart at that moment. “Okay William. Enough of our little chat now. Let’s get back to work, shall we?” Steve asked, taking his pose to attack. It is clear that he was here to attack William and end his life. William’s lips curved upwards but it did not look like a smile no matter how one looked at it. “You want to kill me, right? Okay. Take it. Take my life for the trust I always place in you.” He was really ready to lose his life at that moment. He never believed in miracles. From the moment he saw Steve in front of him, he knew that Evan had been lured away from him. All the members of his pack were already in a fight earlier and there was no one who would be able to come to his rescue at that moment. Hence, there would be no one to save him and he was not in a position to save himself. In fact, he did not want to fight against Steve. No matter how hard his words towards him were, his heart was still soft towards this childhood friend of his. From the moment his childhood friend decided to betray him, his heart was broken. This made him unable to stay strong and fight against his enemies. Even if he fought now, all he could do was to give Steve a couple of scratches at most. Hence, his will to fight was long gone. Steve did not back down from his words nor the look in his eyes. He raised his head and jumped high to attack William at once with his jaw wide open with a huge roar. William stood there, awaiting the end of his life in the hands of his most trusted best friend since his childhood, while slowly recalling all the moments they had shared together since many years ago.
