Chapter 2

I looked at Leo and smirked at him, the authority in his voice made him all that more attractive. “Hi Leo, my name is Emma and I have been your doctor for the last couple of days. You were attacked; do you remember what happened?”

He smiled and nodded “how could I forget meeting my mate?” He finally says and I blush. How could someone I just met have so much control over my emotions...

I look at him still pink all over my face and say “first things first, you are not out of the woods yet. You have begun to heal but, your body isn’t reacting all that well to human medication. I think you should be seen by your pack’s doctor but I am not that sure how stable you are to be transported there.”

“I understand Doc, hmm can I please have something to clean myself.. tooth brush and some soap should do” he says, I nod and exit the room. I head to the supply closet and find him a new robe and the hygiene stuff he had asked for. I come back into the room and hand him the supplies “Thank you Doc”. I take this moment to say the line I had been practicing in my head all the way here “by the way, you can call me Emma” I am completely embarrassed as he stops brushing his teeth, looks at me and nods -his mouth so full of toothpaste and bubbles he couldn’t possibly spill out a word- I scold myself as I think that was the worst moment to do that. I then tell him I’ll go call Jack and Ivan. 

I exit the room on my way to the cafeteria. Jack had been in contact with their pack and he had arranged transportation for Leo to be taken home today. Ivan, saw me approaching them and quickly gained a panic look on his face. This may sound completely wrong but sometimes I enjoy approaching patients families (when there are good news) with a blank expression so they cant read me and see them panic. I had done it so many times I didn’t even notice I was doing it to them until I saw Ivans expression, I quickly changed my face to a smile and said “ Guys Leo is awake and I am pretty sure he’d like to see you now.” They jump up out of their chairs thank me and quickly head over to Leo’s room.

I called Valentina to let her know Leo woke up, over the past last days she had taken the time to care for him with me. 

Ivan’s POV 

I had been so happy to finally be with Cheryl that I hadn’t noticed all the danger I was putting my Alpha and Beta through. I met Cheryl over a month ago while I was collecting supplies for the pack. I had gone to meet Ben at his farm to collect some baby cows we had purchased. We always purchased our new stock from him, after all he did always have the best angus beef and not that it was a secret of any sort but that was Leo’s favorite meal. When I entered the barn the overwhelming smell hit me... cherries, soon after that I heard my wolf cry out Mate!!!

Ben looked at me surprised, but I quickly left him behind and concentrated on knowing where the smell was coming from, I walked through the long barn when I saw this women bargaining with Ben’s wife over some milk tins; without knowing I had been staring for the past 30 seconds at Cheryl, when Lisa turned around and asked me if she could help me with something. I looked at her for a split second but then returned my gaze to Cheryl she was looking at me this amazing gorgeous women was looking at me and she was blushing, she didn’t understand what was happening and all I could think was - a human, my mate had to be a human- I looked at Lisa, apologized, turned around, got what I needed and then left, I returned to the pack and discussed what had happened with Leo I asked if me being with her could be a possibility and was pleasantly surprised when Leo said we were fated mates and if we wanted it, it could be a possibility. He explained to me that the superiors had to be contacted for approval of the switch once I had revealed who I was to her and she had accepted it.

So the next week I had been over to Ben’s and I had gotten the information on where I could find her. I accidentally ran into her in the super market of the town. I lied to her in order to get her to agree to meet me for a coffee I had told her I knew where she could find better priced tins of milk. Although skeptical she agreed. We decided to meet up at a very public place. It took me by surprise that when she arrived the first thing she informed me is that although she felt a strong connection to me nothing would happen between us because she was married. I thought about it for a second but instead of nodding I just thought -aside from being human she is married, really gods?- we had a great time that day even though eventually I started explaining to her why it was we felt such connection and she had freaked out and left me there.

A week had passed since I had seen her and even though I tried running into her again at the spots I was told she’d be, she had done an awesome job at avoiding me. So I decided it was a good idea to go to her home if she didn’t want to be with me she would have to reject me. 

When I arrived she was beyond mad, how dare I go to her home, after I explained what I was doing there she calmed down and said she had no choice she was already married. I told her I understood and as I began “I Ivan Brown, reject you Cheryl...” “STOP she cried out as tears began to fall through her face” I looked at her confused she didn’t want me, why couldn’t we reject each other and move on..I was annoyed. She then asked me if we could get to know each other and then let her make a decision, she was not happy in her marriage but she was not ready to be unfaithful. She wanted us strictly to get to know each other so for the next three weeks that’s what we did, and when the time came she told me she wanted to run away and be with me.

Two days ago

So that day when we arrived at Cheryl’s house I as lead warrior had fail to notice all the red flags. Leo and Jack were waiting for me in the car while I approached Cheryl’s door. I had noticed their neighbors go into their homes as soon as we parked a couple of houses away from her house but I didn’t think much of it. I knocked and when the door opened it was not her, she was beaten up and tied on the other side of the room unconscious, I couldn’t see the person that had opened the door but I didn’t care as the minute I saw her I ran to her aid. 

The door shut behind me and before I could react I was hit from behind with a bat. Up to this point she had never seen me switch before I quickly mind linked Leo and Jack and let my wolf Lex take over. Leo got out of the car and came to my aid he switched and as he was running towards the house he was shot 3 times by hunters that were located in the roof of the house. I panicked as I thought they were too many for me to fight alone and I did not know what was happening to my alpha and beta, but i had heard the shots. The only thing I could pray for is that I hadn’t gotten anyone hurt. I knocked the men that were trying to hold me down and escaped through a window. I got to the parking garage when I saw Jack helping leo walk but he was bleeding a lot. I picked up Leo and we got away as fast as our legs permitted - we would have taken the car but by the time we got to it, it was already in flames.- That’s when we had ran into Valentina smoking outside of the towns hospital and she had allowed us to come in, take refugee and care for us and our wounds.
