Chapter 1
I sat with Kyle, smiling when he gave me a kiss.  “I’ve gotta go, Baby,” he said. “But I’ll call you later.” I watched him walk out of the little park and into his car.  “Hey, sam, Do you have a tampon?” Lindsey asked.  “No,” I said.  “Are you sure?” She asked “I thought we were on the same cycle, shouldn’t your period just be ending now?” I frowned softly before I gasped.  “I’m late,” I said.  “How late?” She asked.  “Well, I-I think I missed this one and the last one,” I said.  “You’ve missed two?” She asked.  I whimpered nervously and she held my hand.  “Come on,” she said.  Lindsey held my hand and brought me over to her car. She drove us to the gas station and I could feel my heart racing, my hands shaking.  “Come on, sam,” she said.  I followed her in towards the back of the store where she picked up a pregnancy test.  “Come on, they have a bathroom here,” she said.  “N-no, I can't do this,” I whimpered. “I can’t be pregnant, I’m f*****g sixteen years old.” “Not taking the test won’t make you not pregnant,” she said.  She paid for the test and the man behind the counter gave us disapproving looks. We went into the bathroom and I sighed as I was left all alone. I read the instructions, sighing quietly as I followed it.  “Lindsey, I-I can’t look,” I whimpered as I opened the door.  The two of us waited, the minute seemingly dragging on for years.  “Wh-what is it?” I asked.  “You’re pregnant,” she whispered.  I let out a sob, shaking my head. She wrapped her arms around me and I cried into her shoulder.  “I-I can’t be pregnant,” I sobbed.  She ran her fingers through my hair  as I cried.  “Come on, sweetheart,” she said.  “Linds, I’m a junior in high school,” I said. “I can’t just have kids. I’m still a kid myself.” “It’s gonna be okay,” she said. “You can get an abortion.” I shook my head. “I-I don’t want an abortion. I can just put the baby up for adoption so others who can’t have kids can just have mine. But I’m gonna be pregnant with a fat f*****g stomach in school, it’s gonna be humiliating.” “We should go tell Kyle,” she said.  I shook my head. “N-not yet, I can’t yet.” “Why not?” She asked.  “Then it’s too real,” I whimpered.  “I’ll be there with you,” she said. “No, I would have to do it alone,” I said. “Can you drop me off at his house?” She smiled and nodded, wrapping her arms around me. We went out the car and she dropped me off at his house. I went upstairs and saw him doing his homework at his desk. He looked over, quickly standing up.  “sam? What’s wrong?” He asked.  My eyes watered and he wrapped his arms around me. He held me tight, letting me cry into his shoulder as we moved to sit on the bed. “Baby, please, what happened?” Kyle asked. I opened my mouth but just broke down sobbing again. He rubbed my back gently, holding me close. “Kyle, I-I’m pregnant,” I whimpered. Kyle’s hand froze on my back as he pulled away slightly to look at me. “You’re joking, right?” He asked. I shook my head and he stood up. “No, come on, Baby, this isn’t funny,” he said. “Kyle, I’m being serious,” I said. “No, n-no you’re not,” he denied. My eyes watered and I cried quietly. He took my hand and pulled me to the bathroom, digging through the closet. He pulled out a box of pregnancy tests and held it out. “Take one,” he said. I frowned as I looked at it. “Kyle, these are expired,” I said. “They’re probably from when your mom was pregnant with you seventeen years ago.” “So, expiration dates aren’t real,” he said. I rolled my eyes and tossed the box into the trash. I pulled the test out of my pocket and showed it to him. Kyle looked at it, shaking his head. “No, n-no, I’m in high school, I can’t get you pregnant,” he said. “I can’t have a baby, oh god.” Kyle broke down crying and sat on the ground, curling up in the corner of the bathroom. I curled up next to him, sobbing with him. “D-does anyone else know?” He asked after he calmed down a bit. “How long have you known?” “Only Lindsey knows, sh-she just took me to take the test right before I came here,” I said quietly. “Oh god, I think I might throw up,” he mumbled. “Well, now you know how I feel, I have a baby inside me,” I said. “f**k, I’ve been freaking out so much I wasn’t even thinking of you, I’m sorry,” Kyle said. “How are you feeling? Do you need to take those special vitamins or something? Have you thought about what to do?” “I’m managing...barely,” I said. “Do you need food?” Kyle asked. “Pregnant people need a lot of food, don’t they? We should go get you some food.” “Baby, I’m okay, I’m not hungry,” I said. “I-I’m just scared.” Kyle pulled me close, holding me in his arms. His hands gently ran through my hair as I sniffled. “I’m scared too,” Kyle whispered.  “I think we should put the baby up for adoption,” I said. “Yeah, I-I think that’s best,” he agreed. “We’re too young to raise a child.” I nodded and Kyle gently--almost nervously--rested a hand on my stomach. “My baby is in there,” he mumbled. I wiped the tears off my cheeks and nodded. “We should call a doctor,” Kyle said. “You need to tell your parents.” “My dad is going to kill you,” I said. “I mean, he already hates you enough as it is.” “I don’t care, we just have to make sure that both you and the baby are okay,” he said. “Do you think that we can just keep it between us for a little bit?” I asked. “I can’t tell anyone about this. I don’t wanna be the big pregnant w***e in class.” “No, you’re not a w***e,” he denied. “You had s*x and it’s okay for people to have s*x. It was just a little accident, you got pregnant, it can happen to a lot of people and that doesn’t make you a w***e to have s*x with your boyfriend.” “Please, Kyle, I don’t wanna tell my parents, not yet,” I said. “Then we can tell my mom, she can help us,” Kyle said. “Your mom is a lot nicer,” I mumbled. “Yeah, she can help us a lot,” Kyle said. “We’re gonna need someone. I mean, do you need a parent to see one of those special baby doctors?” “I don’t know, you don’t need a parent to get an abortion when you’re underage so shouldn’t you be able to see a doctor without one?” I asked. “f**k, I really don’t know,” he said. “We need to tell my mom, she’ll know. She had me when she was just sixteen like you. She was only fifteen when she actually got pregnant but turned sixteen a month before I was born.” “I know, I like your mom, she’s so sweet,” I said. “And I know that we do need help but really I...I’m too scared, Kyle.” “I’ll be with you the whole time,” Kyle promised. “Really?” I asked. “You’re not just gonna ditch me now that I’m pregnant?” “No, of course I’m not going to ditch you, I’m not like my f*****g father,” he said bitterly. “I love you so much.” I nodded, holding his hand. “I love you too,” I said. “We don’t have to tell anyone yet, we can wait until whenever you’re ready,” he said. “Thank you, Kyle,” I said. “But you’re gonna start feeling worse soon, aren’t you?” He asked. “You’re gonna need a doctor.” I nodded my head, closing my eyes. “Kyle, h-how did this happen?” I asked. “We always used protection.” “I don’t know,” Kyle mumbled. “I guess the world just wanted to f**k with us.” “Can we go somewhere else to not sit on the cold bathroom floor?” I asked. Kyle smiled and took my hand, bringing me over to his bedroom. We laid on his bed together, which was just a twin sized bed in the corner of the room. “Is your mom here right now?” I asked. “No, she’s over at my grandpa’s right now,” Kyle said. “M-Maybe we can just tell her tomorrow,” I said. “I kind of just want today to...I don’t know, just be peaceful and happy without all the baby talk and getting yelled at by adults for getting pregnant in high school.” “I get it,” Kyle said. “And you’re gonna have the worst of it because it’ll really be showing for you that you have a teen pregnancy, I’m only the father. You’re gonna be the really brave, strong one to actually go through the pregnancy and the labor and I’ll just be the one to be at your side.” I laid my head on his stomach, smiling softly. “Kyle, are you still gonna like me when I have a lot of stretch marks and I still have the baby weight?” I asked. “Because my body won’t quite be the same after I give birth to this baby.” “Baby, I would love you no matter what,” Kyle said. I smiled, leaning up to give him a kiss. His hand rest on my stomach again, a mixed look on his face. I couldn’t tell if he was happy or upset. “We’re gonna be okay,” I whispered. “We’re gonna get through this, I know we are. This little baby is going to be given up for adoption just in time for senior year. And then, you know, we’re gonna be able to go to college since we don’t have the baby. We are going to be able to live our lives.” “We are,” he said. “And maybe, like, ten years in the future when we’re married we can have kids then but right now is just too soon, we can’t.” I nodded, holding his hand as the two of us talked together quietly.
