Chapter 2 My throbbing heart was reaching up to my throat when I saw the man in front of me. He was nothing like what I had known. He looked entirely different. He had a thick, well—groomed beard, messed up light brown hair and a much healthier body like all he had been doing gym since I had last seen him. His deep eyes darted across the room and they landed straight on me. James stood up from his seat, and walked towards me, he didn’t really look amused, like something was troubling him. When his eyes casted upon me I noticed all sorts of emotions dug deep inside them. Before I knew, he grabbed my neck and kissed me. I consented and immediately gave in as my heart fluttered with happiness. The raw feeling of his luscious lips on mine was thrilling. It drove me crazy. I hadn’t been touched by another man in so many months and it felt completely different when James gripped onto me. His hand slithered away from the back of my head and to my neck. He clutched onto my neck really harshly, sending me out of my breath. I choked underneath his kiss but he didn’t stop. He pushed me back to a wall and I felt my head going light. I tried to shove him back but no avail, he wasn’t moving. He was deepening the kiss by biting my lip and going further. It was a pleasure until he didn’t begin to choke me so aggressively. Soon, he released me from his furious wrath and looked at me. A small smile brightened his face; it seemed like whatever he had done to me right now caused him to be happy. James wasn’t like that, he never ever tried to do this and he always had the tendency to move back when I slightly push him. Rubbing the back of my hand on my lips, I made sure that I was bleeding. “What’s wrong with you?” I furrowed my eyebrows together. He seemed really frightening since the moment I stepped in. Whatever caused him to be like this, wasn’t good. “What?” The smile on his face faded away and he asked. He had an ignorant look on his face like almost choking me to death wasn’t a big deal for him. I shook my head and responded, “Why are you so aggressive? I was out of breath and if you didn’t stop, then I would have died,” I rubbed my hands around my neck, calming the sudden flame rising on my flesh down. I knew I had a bruise on my neck. “I know, that’s why I stopped,” James said as he placed his hand on my jaw and kissed my cheek. He then turned around and returned back to his desk. I was left confused and startled. What had gotten into him? He wasn’t like this before. “What happened?” I grabbed James’ hand and turned him around to me. His eyes were red like he had been drinking or not sleeping and I didn’t even realize that until he got really close to me. “Nothing is wrong, baby, chill!” He exclaimed with a wide grin plastered on his face. I couldn’t chill knowing that James wasn’t the same man I had known before. He had now turned into a moody, bestial person without any emotions. There was no expression on his face, he was just bland. “Tell me, what happened? Why do you seem so changed? And why did you kiss me so aggressively? You could have done it slowly, you know,” I argued. “Common, Maria, now don’t eat my head on this. I like everything aggressive so I am going to be aggressive. If you don’t like it, then don’t do it!” He shrugged before heading back to his seat like my feelings literally didn’t mean anything to him. I went over his desk and to his side. I sat down on his lap and hugged him because I missed him for so long and I was finally able to see him. Regardless of what he had done moment ago. “I missed you so much,” I pressed my head onto his rock hard chest and he just rested his hand on my leg. Nothing came out of him when I said that. I expected a response but he was quiet. “Didn’t you miss me?” I asked. “You didn’t even meet me once since the past two months,” I continued to create an argument because I wanted him to fight with me and be normal. Not all quiet and down. “Hmm…neither did you,” He narrowed his eyes down to me and said. “I know, I am sorry, I was just really caught up my father and things.” I sighed. It was my fault in most of this. In order to maintain a long distance relationship, I should’ve met him. At least once. “Then why don’t you go back to him?” James asked, his tone was creeping me out now. It was straightforward and taunting. A small gasp slipped out of my lips and I replied, “No, I want to be here now. With you! What happened to you? You were so nice before, be nice now to!” I snuggled my head onto his chest and closed my eyes. I heard James’ sigh and then he bought his hand up to arms, pulling me closer to him. A smile crept on my lips when he did that. It bought me temporary comfort. After a few minutes of being on his lap, James said, “I have some work and you have to return to your classes, so go.” He didn’t push me off from his lap but his words caused a bit of pain. Why did he want me to go away so quickly? We just met after so long. I thought to myself. I got up and fixed myself. If he wanted to be like that, then it’s going to be like that. Just like how he wants. “Fine, bye!” I exclaimed before walking away quickly so he couldn’t stop me. Before opening the door, I noticed the sadness on his face but I ignored it and walked out to see a woman on the reception. Claire. The assistant that James’ father had gotten him. She was really pretty and it caused me think about a lot of wrong things. I gulped when her gaze shifted towards me. “What are you doing here?” She asked. “And who are you?” I walked by the reception and replied, “I am Maria, and I came to speak with Ja–Mr. Black,” “Oh,” She hummed and looked at me from up to down. “Another girl who got expelled right? Great! Do not come here without a slip next time,” She continued. What the f**k was happening here? I rolled my eyes and walked away without even replying. She was taunting and insulting me and I didn’t have extra time to listen to her irritating voice. I took the elevator back to my classes and the guard waved me a goodbye before it closed. I looked at myself at the mirror behind me and I had three fingerprint marks on my neck. These were going to go away in sometime but I had three nail marks behind my neck which for surely weren’t going anytime soon. “Great,” I groaned as the elevator stopped. I stepped out and walked around the empty hallways. It was extremely silent and there was literally no one around. No teachers, no students, no one at all! I shivered as I kept walking further. Was there school today? I didn’t want to go inside the class because I wasn’t ready yet so I roamed around until the bell for break didn’t go off and once it did, all girls came out of their classes silently. They went down the stairs in queues, without creating any chaos. I c****d my head up to see where Amber was and I finally found her. “Amber!” I whispered and called her name. She quickly looked at me and raised her eyebrow. I rushed towards her and she gave me a tight hug. “Where were you?!” She said in a low voice so no one else could hear it. “I was just busy, what’s happening here? This doesn’t looks like the school I used to go,” I furrowed my eyebrows together and asked. “Shush, come down and I will tell you!” Amber said. We both walked towards Nat and then we went downstairs to the cafeteria. “Why are girls so quiet? They are never quiet!” I exclaimed as I placed my hand on my hip and walked back and forth. Thankfully, the cafeteria was pumped up and everyone was speaking loudly. “Rules, a lot of rules have been added and some have been changed.” Nat replied. Nat and Amber were sitting down on the table and having a small chocolate cupcake. I wanted to eat but before that, I wanted answer. “What rules?” I slammed my hands on the table and asked Nat. She had been here since the past two months and she knew everything. “New rules created by the headmaster! No speaking in hallways or you will be punished, no rushing around, no chaos, no fighting, no excessive and unnecessary conversations with teachers and many more things. They rolled out when you left,” Nat explained and I listened to her carefully. Once she was finished, she gave me a glassy stare of depreciating horror. A great panic gripped my heart and I yelled, “What the f**k?!” “No cursing!” Nat warned as she grabbed my hand and pulled me beside her. I sat down and controlled my emotions. Don’t get to mad, Maria. “What else is there?” I asked. “The punishments have gotten more severe, and the headmaster has created a black room for girls who are disobedient. They will be locked inside that room for a day until they realize their mistake. A girl went there a few weeks ago and she was traumatized when she came out,” Nat explained with a sad voice. “It’s not a school anymore; it’s hell, Maria!”
