Chapter 3

Chapter 3 A gasp slipped past my lips as I heard Nat end. I couldn’t believe all of this. What was James doing? He was going to mentally ruin lives of many girls if he didn’t stop with this abuse. I was pulled out of my thoughts when Amber spoke, “It’s messed up now! I came here before time and teachers were yelling at me for no reason,” I shook my head in disappointment, “Oh god,” I mumbled under my breath. Was this all the reason why James was busy? Because he wanted to create new, violent rules. “I am going to go, I will see you in class whichever it is and if I don’t show up, I will be in my room,” I said as I got up and grabbed my bag. “You aren’t allowed to skip classes anymore,” Nat trailed off. Was that ever allowed? “Teachers are going to find out and then they are going to punish you,” she added with fear lacing her tone. James had frightened almost everyone in this school. But not me. I leaned down to Nat and smiled. “The last thing I am going to do is obey any one of these stupid, dumb rules!” I whispered before walking away. I wasn’t going to obey them and no one else was also going too. I sneaked away from the cafeteria and took the stairs up because they were too many teachers around the elevator. I ran upstairs and stumbled across the guard and a glass door. “Miss. Maria, what are you doing here?” The guard asked. “I just wanted to see James, is he inside?” I inquired the guard. I stopped moving for a second to get a hold of my breath and once the guard nodded, I rushed inside. The woman, Claire, wasn’t there on her reception once again. I cheered with joy when I didn’t see her presence but then the door behind the reception slowly began to open. Without wasting another second, I halted inside James’ office. “What are you doing here?” James asked, he was on his desk and on his laptop doing something. Probably adding more new rules and ruining more lives. Who knew? I swallowed hard and went closer to him, “What the f**k is wrong with you?!” I busted out with anger and watched the emotions of his face get mixed up. He looked back at me with endless confusion. “You aren’t allowed to curse here, Maria and go back to your classes,” James narrowed his attention back towards his laptop and said silently. My jaw dropped and my eyes widened with the reaction he gave. “What the f**k?!” I mumbled again. I walked closer to him and placed my hand on the table, right beside his laptop. Diverting his eyes, he pondered, “What do you want?” He asked after a moment of silence. “I want f*****g answers. What’s up with new rules? And that f**k black room?” I yelled, leaning down on his face. With all the curses I gave, he surely got angry. “Maria, control your language and behave yourself. This is my school and I know what’s better for my girls,” James replied with a smile. The air thickened and I replied, “No! This doesn’t make you know what’s better for your girls. You are mentally torturing them. What has happened to you? You were never like this. You never condoned torture or violence,” I wasn’t going to finish this argument without a proper explanation. James slammed his hands on the desk and stood up, flame leaped into his eyes as he grabbed my upper arms with a tight grip. “I told you, Maria, this is my school and my rules. I don’t want you to budge me about anything related to my work, or else…” He trailed off. “Or else what?” I asked immediately as he stopped. He looked to the other side and replied, “You will be hurt and I don’t want to hurt you but if you keep irritating me like this and cursing in front of me, then I will do something that’s going to bruise you…and me too.” My lips quivered upon every word that he spilled. I was confused and worried. He wasn’t the James I knew. “Then hurt me because I am not going to stop and I am not going to support what’s wrong!” I stated in a clear voice. The realization of everything happening hit me like a physical blow on my face. The grip around my arms loosened but James didn’t let me go just yet. “I don’t want you do anything that I don’t like so please, don’t interfere and be good.” He repeated and I rolled my eyes before pushing him back. “I am going to interfere because what you are doing is completely wrong! And being good, my foot!” I exclaimed before walking away from the room and keeping him startled and thinking for the rest of the day. However, instead of him, I was thinking. I didn’t attend my classes like usual and I rushed inside the dorm building. One of the keepers stopped me. “This is class hours, you aren’t supposed to be here,” The keeper said as she placed her hand on my shoulder. I pushed away her hand and replied, “I don’t care,” I walked away after that. I went back to my old room and unlocked it with the keys I had been given. It was clean and tidy. Most of my things were still there and my mirror was also replaced. There as a hole in the wall which reminded me of the time I tried to shot Monica. I giggled and shook my head as I remembered about James and how he took care of me that day. How he took care of me always. But now he was entirely changed. I removed the stained clothes and wore new ones. I brushed my hair and removed the necessary books I needed for my classes tomorrow. I spend the rest of my time setting up and making sure everything was fine. Once I was done, I grabbed my phone and went back to my contact list to find Jason’s number. I took his number the last time I met him at his father’s house, before I left and before all of this happened. “Hello,” I sighed out of relief when I recognized his voice. At least something was same. “Hey, it’s me, Maria,” I said. I hoped he would remember me. It had been a really long time since I had seen him too. “Oh, Maria, how are you?” Jason asked. “I am fine, thank you for asking. Um…I just wanted to ask a few things about James,” I trailed off. “Yes?” “I just rejoined the school again today so I wanted to know whether James goes to his house or stays at school at evening?” I questioned while playing with a piece of my hair. I was nervous for learning everything about him but I needed too. “No, he hasn’t come home in weeks. I begged him to come several times but he isn’t listening to anyone. My father goes to the school once in a week to see him but I stopped talking to James because of his sudden change in behavior,” Jason explained. I was in shock and disbelief, James didn’t even care about his family anymore. What was going on? Did someone die or something? “I am so glad that there is someone who understands that James has changed. What has happened to him? Did someone die or something?” I inquired. “No, no one did. He’s been really moody since the past two months. Like after you left and after he dropped you off, he went straight to school and didn’t come back for two weeks. When he did, he was really quiet and if I tried to excite him up, he’d scold or yell at me.” Jason explained. I got worried about James now. Something or someone was really affecting him. Was it me?
